    Thanks for another very detailed review. This is a beautiful rod which I may buy after seeing this review. However, when you say this is the best, one may also like to consider a few ultralight rods manufactured by Evergreen, Gamakatsu, Tenryu, Yamaga Blanks, Smith and Radio Craft etc. All these are made in Japan rods. Eagerly waiting for your Soare XR reel review.

      There are still a few rods left that are made in Japan. I’m waiting for Luxxe Hana 2 to come out.
      The soare xr is a better looking vanford with complex xr handle and extra bearings. I have all three in 2000 size and they all pretty much feel the same. The soare does look best imho.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 2 lety +2

      These are all super sensitive rods, and yet I think only this one is special. I don't know how to explain it. The Eradicator is a lighter and more sensitive rod, and has tubular tip and bends deeper in the blank. It is just better on the performance specs than this rod. And yet doesn't feel nor does it look special. But this rod and grab it in hand and tell me it doesn't feel special.

  • @BobbyDiddly
    @BobbyDiddly Před rokem +1

    I also prefer tubular tips but I notice that on the XR Shimano are using Tuftec solids on the SULs and High Response Solids on the UL/L rods. Although it never seems to be spelled out 100% anywhere I think the HRS may be a better choice for 'hand sensitivity' and for lures with resistance. I'm planning to try the S58UL-S for this reason.

    After due deliberation, I purchased Soare XR S68UL-S. Thanks Victor, your reviews have been instrumental in shaping my choice. I already had a Yamaga Blanks Blue Stream 7'6", St Croix Avid 7' and Daiwa Presso 7' so I decided to go for Soare 6'8". I have paired Soare XR S68UL-S with Shimano Exsence C3000M which seems to be balancing well with the rod...... better then my Daiwa Luvias Airity FC LT 2500S-XH-QD which actually is a much lighter reel. Exsence is 183 g with line and Luvias Airity is 159 g with line. I haven't fished with the combo yet but when I hold it in my hand, 183 gm Exsence feels much better balanced. BTW, the tip of Soare 6'8" is very very slim. Though its a solid tip but I think I will have to be very very careful with it.
    Again, thanks for the guidance, Victor.

      i would TRY this rod with a 2000 size reel

    • @kbw6681
      @kbw6681 Před 2 lety

      Agreed. I don't have a 2000 size reel but do have three 1000 size reels. Stradic, Shimano Exage and a Bass Pro Shops 1000 reel and a very old Michel Outback 1000 reel. All of them look much smaller than Exsence C3000M but are 25 to 40 grams heavier. Moreover, except Outback, they have very small (35 mm) handles. I understand latest 2000 size reels like Vanquish, Luvias Airity, Presso, Vanford, Soare etc are much lighter (145 to 155 g) but I think it is more about the overall balance. Somehow, I feel that most of my rods are better balanced with a 180 g reel and I feel more comfortable cranking a 50 mm handle. This however is a personal choice. But would love to have a 2000 size reel and Vanquish is on top of my list.
      Best regards

    You have convinced me to save up for this rod.
    Also- an old trick for a good hook keeper that lasts years is to take some heavy mono or fluoro and attach it to the blank with electric tape.
    You just loop it and weave it through the layers of tape a few times. I haven't noticed any residue on the blank or differences in sensitivity. Had one on my ML float rod for over a decade now.
    Also one of these days I may commit a sin and buy a JDM rod only to carefully strip the handle and install a quality full cork grip. Doesn't look like I would need to do this with the soare.

Now that i fished both rods quite a few times, i still find the 7'6 too stiff for me, but for some reason this rod is just as fun as the small one, IF NOT MORE FUN. I think because of the tubular tip the sensation is different and i really love it.
      The the 6 foot rod is not UL-S, it is SUL - S. Super ultralight. Entire blank is much much thinner and bends very easy with small fish. I don't like the solid tip,but i like the rest of the blank....

    Is it wrong to love a fishing rod this much? I had a Shimano Poison Adrena UL rod last year that I really liked but the action seemed to be only in the top third of the rod, so I ended up selling it. This rod though, from small bluegill to 20-inch channel cats so far is so much fun.

      I agree with your comment about the Poison Adrena. This is my problem with all solid tip rods, including this one. I wish it was a tubular tip. I still love the rod, but i can't feel the tip during the fight. The 7'6 is a much stiffer rod, and yet i like it more right now, amazingly, because it feels in the hand the way i expect it to feel, only a little stiff.
