Well, the Oscars don't nominate you, you actually have to spend the money to be nominated, also, the film was likely in the initial round of nominations, there's usually a pool with 60 or so films in each category and they thin them down to 5 or 6 after a long serious of voting.
The people who made this 'trailer' should be fired. This is pretty much the whole movie here.

Those transformations for The Machinist, than Batman, than again for The Fighter and Batman again and than American Hustle aaaand again Batman...This guy is crazy ! :) Never seen such dedication, but hey, the human body has it's limits. You can do it without steroids, but u really need commitement 24/7. And not a lot of actors can do that. In fact, nobody did this like Bale. Trully insane actor..in a good way.

i'm very willing to give this movie a shot because of the fantastic actors, but an 'atmospheric' trailer would have been much better in this case, without spoiling her death and the whole story. :/

it's a very classic story of a 'fallen' man getting back to his feet for his woman/child/sibling/parent, in this case his daughter. it's not a bad concept, but knowing one of the biggest plot twists beforehand is just lame.
Actually, all trailers tend to spoil everything these days... If you watch the Nightcrawler trailer, you pretty much know everything. If you watch Ex Machina's trailer the same, and so on. In comedy trailers they show all the good jokes, and in SFX movies, the show all the good special effects scenes (example Avengers). It's how it works these days. If we want to be "surprised" by the story, we must avoid trailers.

hm, there are a couple of good trailers out there though...(and as always, I can't think of any examples when they're needed, mmph...) interstellar comes to mind, or, uhm. tree of life, '71, american hustle... why can't i think of any, i know they exist O_O sorry, i'm sure you know that moment. they are very very few in comparison to the telling-too-much trailers though.
I'm truthfully surprised this movie hasn't received more attention and gotten higher ratings. I saw it yesterday and was wowed when I left the theater - I cried throughout, it was very emotional and had phenomenal acting. Gyllenhaal is one of my favourite actors these days. Totally recommend this movie!
Well the thing is that boxing movies are very similar to one another.We've seen this movie many times,from rocky to raging bull etc.
But i loved it too so much and i admit that i teared up at the end.

I think they could've played it differently tho while that scene is important they could've left it a bit more of mystery so people would be more inclined to watch it. Like maybe not actually show her being shot and dying but leave it up to interpretation sorta and left it hanging with did she get shot or who. Kinda like what's been done with other movies and shows, in my opinion I still feel like they showed too much in the trailer kinda spoils the film they probably could've still pulled people in with a lot less in my opinion

I went to see this movie for free on base in Yuma Arizona and It was absolutely amazing. I was the only person in the Theater. This movie sent me through a range of emotions and I ultimately left the theater in tears. The trailer shows way to much but it is definitely worth the watch.
