      @@theneocypher I sorta think the opposite, the only reason the Legion are so threatening to the NCR is because the NCR are actually kinda weak. Like the Legion are no slouches, there's no doubt about that, but against a proper force in a pitched battle, they fall behind. Which is probably why the Frumentarii are so good at their jobs.
      Ok but my main point is, the NCR man to man is less capable than a WW1 army. Its not even a numbers thing, the NCR has very few armored units (I guess I could lump power armor with tanks here), they have almost no artillery assets, and almost no air assets. If the NCR had just one those 3 in somewhat available fashion, then I believe they could stomp the legion. The only thing really giving them a leg up is their night vision equipment.
      I suppose relatively speaking the Legion are terrifying and that's kinda the point.

    I was doing an NCR mod Called Bearfire which it extends the NCR Questline massively, one Reoccuring Character is Maser Sergeant Candy, despite her rank this video shows she's acting way more like a Captain then a Sergeant which makes sense. As she leads a Qausi Rogue but loyal Unit from Searchlight. Greenlighting Daring Missions and with help fro the Courier scoring Phat Ws for the NCR.
    In general, I find that the NCR did too much copy and paste. The US Army has that many ranks because they were a vast and Bloated organisation that operated across the world. The NCR duplicated this system and suffer the problems the US Did in different countries within the confines of the region next to them. The troopers possess near to no agency of their own, constantly complaining about problems they actually should have clearance to at least address. There seems to be so much red tape, I swear a Fiend could spray paint the McCarren gates and somehow the Troopers would be disabled from doing anything about it.
    As an NCR fan, it's one of the most comical consistent things in my play through of me running myself stupid to keep the barely functional military going lol

      i mean the number of ranks doesn't really change that much between armies, most militaries have a similar number of ranks, even the tiny ones like the Latvian or Belgian army or something. Most have maybe 4-5 less ranks enlisted & NCO ranks than the US army but it doesn't change much.

    The biggest problem for the NCR Military is logistics.
    We can tell the logistics are very dire by the limited amount of ammunition, food and lack of pretty much anything.
    Patrols and traveling NCR do not have any support or even basic packs. The guys would still need tourniquets and gas masks even with the drugs and stimpacks they have in circulation. Which they do not have. They also lack any basic military structure for the type of military they have. They never have enough guards or duty's. If they did they would never sleep or be able to function if you look at the bases they have. Sure the Brotherhood has the same issue but they have robots that do not need to sleep and choke points at every base so they can deal with the main issue the Brotherhood would have being limited response to an immediate attack. Meanwhile the NCR is getting attacked and slapped around before they can even properly deploy a response if they even know where the threat is. Sorry guys I guess someone just blew up the south wing of the base again and we still only have a handful of bullets and dirt sandwiches to eat Oopsie.

      Yea the NCR has put together a decent emulation of a pre-war military, but it's clear they're struggling on the supply front, at least in Mojave. But we also see signs of them addressing it, there's a railroad under construction in part of the map and if they can run it with any degree of efficiency, that alone could address a lot of their problems out there.

    Is there any lore that explains when and how they reformed the army? And who was responsible for the training? Upgrading a rag tag militia into a functioning modern military is not an easy task afterall. And it seems as though they managed to do it rather quickly. Not as fast as Imperial Japan did in the 19th century but still pretty quick.

    Seems to be a somewhat mix between USMC and US Army ranks. In the marines you go to boot and start as a recruit. pv1 private is E-1 in marines i believe. You mentioned Pv2 i think as pfc. Thats E-2 i think "dont quote me" in the marines. Then theres lance corpral which is E-3 i believe but it seems like they skipped Lance corpral. So they went straight to corpral which is an E-4 in USMC. Note corpral in US Army is interchangeable with with another rank called specialist i think again dont quote me. The E-5 ranks seem like USMC as you mentioned in the video. Sergeant E-5 than Staff Sergeant which I believe is E-6. Than there is Gunny and master sergeants which I dont know which comes first etc. I dont really know much more than that. Correct me if im completely wrong. And of course good video 😊.

    I wouldn't go as far to claim the NCR has "ballistic vests" or an "air force".
    We don't know what their vests are made out of, but it appears to either be leather or leather covered metal. Neither would really offer ballistic protection. In addition the Rangers don't have ballistic protection either, but riot armor, meant for bricks and glass, rather than bullets.
    We also only see one vertibird, and no one mentions an air force.

    • @theneocypher
      @theneocypher  Před rokem +28

      Unfortunately, most of the information we can gather in this game is largely speculative.
      We do know that the NCR has a few vertibirds at the Long-15, which acts primarily as a military base before it’s obliterated. Furthermore, a single line of dialogue with Daisy Whitman, in context, implies the existence of an NCRA Air Unit of some kind. Other than that, we really have no other evidence to support the Air Force idea and I wouldn’t consider Bear Force One to be sufficient evidence of an Air Force either.
      As for the armor, it is by definition a ballistic vest, or “bulletproof” vest. These vests can be made out of anything from hardened cloth (like linothorax), to leather, to metal, to kevlar, etc. In the case of the NCR, I think it’s safe to assume they use metal plates for basic ballistic protection since their armor counts as medium armor, however it also could be leather, or some type of ballistic weave.
      Sadly, since neither points are confirmed nor denied in the game itself, this is the best we can infer given the information provided. That is, until a game developer weighs in!

    • @Joesolo13
      @Joesolo13 Před rokem +2

      Given the state of technology(most weapons and ammo being centuries old), I don't think it's unrealistic to think that armor's relative effectiveness is greater than in real life just because most ammunition will not be as effective. They certain function, but a .22 can kill but also be stopped by pretty minimal armor. NCR has a functioning, to some extent, industrial base, but against tribals and poorly equipped local forces? They may be using ammunition half or less as effective as it's modern equivalents.

It's most iconic now a days for the USMC, but considering how many former air force bases the NCRA controls, it's not that surprising that it'd be the main "helmet" for desert and tropical warfare to keep the sun off the head. Assuming from Fallout 4 we see that the US Army's uniform fatigue uniform hadn't changed into the 2070s (as well as the US Coast Guard hats still being WW2 flat cap styles), the NCRA is using w/e is cheap and easy to mass produce for a conscript army, while the regulars or long standing guys might be wearing the combat helmets while chasing ghosts in the Baja.
