- Prince Rama Varma, accompanied by Sri S.R.Vinu, Dr.G.Babu, Manjoor Sri Unnikrishnan, Payyannur Sri Govindaprasad and Sri Ananthapadmanabhan, gave an amazing concert with songs in various languages, at Thiruvananthapuram in January 2016. Here, he gives a beautiful explanation and sings the Purandara Dasa Masterpiece "Karuniso Ranga" in Raag Jogiya, popularized by the Legend, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. Varmaji told me now that the sage who cursed King Indradyumna and turned him into an elephant, was in fact Agasthya and not Durvasa, (though Durvasa is the man who is famous for his curses and short temper.) So, Sorry Mr.Durvasa, for wrongly attributing one extra curse in your name :)

A very divine experience...made more pleasurable with the meaning of the song explained..so every one in the audience could enjoy the same..but even without the explanation ..the feel was so enchanting..the portion where Varmaji sings Vitala..one feels as if Vitala would come down to earth...such was the piety expressed..🙏🙏🙇🏻♀️🙇🏻♀️💖💖🌹🌹
really wonderful rendering .thank you sir
I bow my head to the music scholar and vocalist Prince Rama Varma. His style of explaining kritis and his command on several languages & music is par excellence. Thanks fir sharing this invaluable gem 🙏🙏
Parama sukam devaranama
Our majesty Prince Ramavarma you are great!!!
What a knowledge & explanation on Indian Music & on Purandara Dasaru who is treated as one of 1000 incarnations of Lord Vishnu by ISKCON. It is very proud to note that both Carnatic & Hindustani styles emerged from the Kritis of Purandara Dasaru. Miyan Tansen belonged to musical lineage of a Disciple of Purandara Dasa. The rendition after the preface commentary is one of the best from the most humble Pandit Prince Rama Varma ji. Thanks for sharing.
The explanation made this song 10 times more beautiful 😍 thank you

Prince is Great scholar. Very Good in presentation.🙏
Thank you, Sir, for your high esteem and appreciation of Saint Purandaradasaru. Thank you also for beautiful rendition of the kriti.
The essence, of the team-spirit Varmaji invokes, is found in Anantapadmanabhan ji on the tambura! Simply couldn't help watching the depth of his participation in the concert. It was as if he believed Varmaji sang just for him! The team is never complete without him quietly soaking it all up at the back! 🙇
Great Singer, Scholar with so much humble. You are an inspiration for many like us. thanks you, Narasimha, Karnataka
Vinu sir's violin is soo soothing ...

So beautifully explained .....a true pleasure listening to you sir ....beautiful rendering...
the sweet patience of his explanation and rendering both are very appreciable
I liked the way Rama Varma avaru explains the meaning of the song before singing. Especially the story of Gajendra Moksha. Dasaranadare purandara dasarayya. His compositions are super!!!!
Though a malayali his kannada grammar and expression of the song was fantastic, very melodious, felt like listening to the same again..well done Sri Rama verma sir.
Prince Rama Varma's style of explaining and elaborating Sahytha (lyrical Content) is very nice. Other musicians should emulate this.
Beautiful.. No other words ... Feeling blessed to listen to
Sir.,Explaining the Sahitya is wonderful & singing 🎶 the way is nice!!! God bless w/Longivity.,
Thanks for the meaning of the attributes of lord Krishna and the greatness of the composer
Unique kind of musician, who helps his audience to understand the meaning and enjoy the beauty of the composition
Once again I am heartfully great , for your explanation given for Kauruniso Ranga song , though I know Kannada, Telugu and other languages, your explanation makes the audiences to be inspired , by your detailing the Bhakthi cult , this is required for one and all who listens can get TRANCE /meditation
I have to agree with the previous comment. I expected his accent to be colored as he spoke Malayalam. But, dang it, his Kannada pronunciation is as clear as mine, actually clearer. May Sri Hari smile on his saadhana.
I humbly suggest going a little low-key in the accompaniments. They seemed to drown out the krithi and Sri Varma's rendition.
spendid voice nice presentation beatiful rendering almost divine song nice to hear super.
Thanks a lot dear master for the nice explanation of the song. Doubly happy to listen knowing the meaning!!!! Namaste to you.
thanks for the great explanation Prince Rama Varma
Made the song a divine experience. Great. Awesome. My salutations.
all the vocalists should learn his style of explaining the songs ....
Athe
Namaskarams sir.divine singing.and i love the way you explain.amplifies our experience of the music.
One small clarification though,in the last line olisuvudu arjunanthe...in kannada olavu ...olisu ...means love...friendship..etc..your explanation came across as a little stretched ?.
🙏🙏🙏
🙏🙏🙏
very good rendition and explanation.
Sri Rama Varma!! All your explanations before singing are so useful & clearly brilliant!! All singers must be like you for the greatness of Carnatics!!!

Beautiful sir but one correction baka ia bird which stands in water by only one leg for hours by closing its eyes it is called baka dhyaana not as u explained that bakaasura he was a demon tq u sir
In this song he does not say Baka Dhyana but "Baka Vairi" who is the Enemy of Baka. That is Bhimasena. Vairi meaning enemy.
Morvalous
I want t o save.
This is a Kannada song 😍
He is also saying the same thing that the composer is Purandarsa but is explained the meaning of the kerrtana in Malayalam
Saraswathi putra.......... No barrier of language.........
ಕರುಣಿಸೋ ರಂಗ ಕರುಣಿಸೋ 😇
