I wish people would focus more on WHY Chinchilla might want to cut this person's fingers off (what did they do to her?) and how courageous and honorable it is that she's prepared to make a sacrifice to stop other women getting hurt by this person ... rather than just the standard "she's a handful, don't mess with her, ooh, look at her scary nails, he he" type of narrative. IRL, she's a total sweetheart of course. Anyway, that's more of a wider moan about society, not aimed specifically at you guys. Glad you appreciate her talent. Cheers.

Can’t agree more with this comment. Does anyone wonder about the level of passion in this performance coupled with the words. The unceasing sexism in much of the reactions is a bit exhausting. A Chinchilla reaction that doesn’t mention Ren would also be nice. Again not really cranky at these reactors they are one of many with this sort of reaction.🦇
I’ve know people who have wanted to do that simply because the other party in a relationship didn’t want to be in that relationship any more.
Doesn’t have to necessarily be anything bad, just one party wanting out while the other still holds feelings and distress. Sometimes that’s life.
Don't know what you're talking about. All the other reactions I've seen were "you go girl" vibes, and addressed the totality of the message.
She only wears those nails for her performances, she mentioned in an interview how her real nails were getting destroyed from her applying and ripping off her performance nails!

Ah love it - thanks Mike & Ginger for getting to this, she's so entertaining - visuals are always on point as are the lyrics, performs so well she really has some powerful messages with her gorgeous voice! very engaging, Chinchilla does really quirky stuff has great humour with it.
It's not about cutting off Fingers, its about an abused woman not allowing it to happen, to be dragged down. To stop the abuser hurting other people. Its not literal its metaphorical. But with Chinchilla it may be literal😂
For the record, she says in her personal life she's not really a long claw-like fingernail type of gal, she had terrible stage fright when she first started performing live, and getting dressed up in a wild outfit allowed her to become a persona she would never be IRL, and the fingernails were a big part of that persona, now they've become a staple of her look. but they aren't part of her every day life. She described how damaged her real nails got when on tour with Sting because she was putting them on and taking them off daily.

Ren actually has a great singing voice too. He's just done a bunch of hip hop, but ... from the interviews I've heard, I don't think it's dominant, it's just that he decided it would be fun to do an album of hip hop... The key to Ren is story-telling. He's said he doesn't see music as a lifelong career option for most musicians, and for his next act he wants to do film making. From what I've seen so far, he'll be incredible. Chinchilla has said they're very much on the same emotional wavelength with videos and music, and her own work shows that she's a story teller too. Most musicians aren't. They may sing a song that carries a story, but their focus isn't on the story, but on the pretty notes and runs.

Mike great job on the weight loss. Me and hubby are on the no carbs (except a few complex carbs from veggies), no sugar, seed oils or processed foods. Lots of water including electrolytes once a day. Been on for 3 months and hubby lost 50 and me 35. It is a new healthy life style, Including exercise and it will be permanent.
We are ages 55 and 58. Better late than never.

I've read before, not sure the truth behind it though, that she wrote this song about her old manager. I guess her and Ren had the same manager and both left under pretty messy circumstances. Again, I have not fact checked it, but I know Ren has stated when he left his old manager it was pretty messy.
The fingernails are a part of her performance costume…they’re not for everyday life.

I'd say Ren and Chinchilla are more akin to performance art with a music backdrop.
Chinchilla only wears the long nails for her performances. When she busked with Ren she wasn't wearing those nails. Someone upset this girl!

Chinchilla feels like a contemporary of Ren that's a few years "behind". All the soul, all the skills, just not quite as refined quite yet. I'm so excited for where she's heading, because she's already pure fire.
Two completely different artists appealing to different types of people so not really comparable - there’s no doubt she’s an incredible artist - actually super refined if you listen to her catalogue
@@Taratara-uc8pn I think they're very similar in terms of the genuineness they bring, and the skills, and the level of expression - which is what I value most. Ren's a little more insightful and more varied... but I think that's only down to him being older and at it longer.

She said she added that the day of this performance bc of the me too movement being big at the time and she thought that was something most women could relate to.
Gotta disagree about this being non-formulaic. Verse, short chorus, verse, short chorus, bridge, full chorus, short chorus, outro. This seems like a pretty standard structure 🤷
I will grant that her dynamics, tonality, and melodies make it seem far less organized, but the structure is there.
