The Rights and Wrongs of Gmod Animation

- Jack and I worked together to bring in the eleventh episode of the Rights and Wrongs series. For those who are unfamiliar with it, in a nutshell, one person is doing it right while the other is doing it wrong.
In this video, we are digging something meta this time. It's about learning how to do Garry's Mod Animations or so to speak. As strange as it sounds, it was demonstrated by "animated ragdolls." This time both of us used original characters for this video as a gimmick. Featuring Chase, a simple-minded video producer working with Leilanie for the project, played by yours truly. The wrong side features Hostage Heavy, a bumbling Heavy who does not know the meaning of animation, played by Jack5.

I’ll be honest, I think Heavy’s wrong way is technically the right way to do it. It might be because I was there during Kitty0706’s abundance of GMOD animations, but there’s a weird good feeling about the entire video being insane slapstick. Even weirder was how the videos being to slowly show consistency from previous videos after a while (namely Elliot Goes to School). But the correct way is also good too for any aspiring animator, but I feel like that could just go as well into SFM.
He certainly didn't think to turn off physgun beam or halo.

Well, unless you're like Heavy or don't know how to use it well there isn't typically a wrong way to animate with programs like Gmod or MMD, as long as you have fun that's what counts. :)

Is it bad that I liked Heavy's video better than the "right way"? Like... JOKE wise. The right way was an old cartoon cliche. At least Heavy's had that "so bad it's good" vibe about it.

In 2023, the wrong way is now the right way due to the shitpost nature of it.
If it had actual decent animation to it than it would of been considered the "RIGHT" Way.

I know heavy is doing it wrong by the fact he has his Phys beam, effect rings and halo on. These are like, the basics. Even when you are animating for yourself and not for videos.
Those shouldn't matter if you're using stop motion helper.

2:59 You were *THIS* close to being able to mock TheInvertedShadow's lack of animation in his animations! All he does is simply put the camera behind (or away) from whoever is talking, and just have Voice Actors do all the talking. For a vast majority of time, nothing is ever shown.
I am aware of this kind of animation, and I knew that there was no way I could possibly make it entertaining for the average viewer, so I ignored it completely.
He puts in way more effort than I do though. Hell, I never even tried to hide the mouths when they're not moving. Course a lot of models don't have faceposing or even face skin groups to begin with but that's not always an excuse.
Now we know. And knowing is half the battle.

Heavy's video wasn't as bad as this video paints it to be.
I remember Jack5, I wasn't allowed into Tumblrpon collab blogs because I use gmod because I don't have the fine motor functions or visualization capacity needed to draw properly so I made a gmod collab blog called the Gmod Box. Shortly after I met Jack5 (I forgot how we met) and he had me reskin Spike into his A the Dragon character and asked if he could co-run Gmod Box as I didn't really have a direction to go with it aside from general antics so we rebooted it. He and I couldn't agree on the story and he refused to to come to any form of compromise. It was his way or the highway. So without my consent, he shut the whole thing down and as I later learned, deleted all the descriptions off everyone's posts but kept the posts themselves up. Years later I found out he was actually _saltier than me_ about the whole thing because he did a scathing commentary on a video review of mine of Stanley Parable he did a cameo in. I think he deleted it after I left a comment pointing out that he was still salty about the gmod box (also he nitpicked the barely visible translucent bandicam logo in the stinger and I mentioned I already moved on to OBS because I got sick of people nitpicking it on my old videos). For me it's nothing but a bad memory. I do wish I had made more an effort to try to keep the whole thing going and that was really on me in the end but I was worried he would have gotten on my case about it.
