From what I know, halberds were usually shorter than poleaxes/hammers but made it up with a much longer spearhead so knights could fight without the other side being able to even reach them because the thing basically acted like a pike wall when theyre clumping up
Polehammer was the first weapon I really clicked with when the game first came out. Let's hope it gets that buff soon

I love the polehammer very much and I appreciate you making a video about its shortcomings. It may not be the "best" polearm, but the way it performs against knights in team objective matches (of which each team is probably >50% knights) makes me think twice before swapping over to a halberd instead.
Not to mention how satisfying it feels to crunch a knight with a special attack. Assuming they survive it, you can definitely bet they'll swing around holding block to face you, so landing the follow-up kick is practically a guarantee.

The pole axe has always been my favorite underrated weapon. I was so stoked when it got buffed a little while back. It’s so fun using the special attack, especially in TO. Nobody sees it coming.
Yeah the pole axe has a great special animation, its like the war club where it kind of looks like a heavy overhead until you lunge forward a little further and deliver that big crunchy hit.
Poleaxe Superiority. Its a great duel and team weapon. The alt mode gets people completely out of guard esp in team fights

Several things
1. The polehammer is very fast. It starts it's hitbox very early and you can get some insane accels with it.
2. It's recovery time is second only to highland sword. Missing a heavy against a duelist is a free hit for them.
3. This is not a problem for experienced players but the counter window is quite short and your attacks drain a lot of stamina. Most noobs using it are gonna get disarmed because they can't counter.
4. They NEED to fix ph's hitbox. I can still execute handle hits after the update and they have introduced multiple strange techs you can pull off in duels. Half the time its overhead will miss hitting anyone from the waist down and spinning while doing an overhead will just go straight through people.
Polehammer is the only weapon I can claim as my own in duels. Playing TO with it I just realise that there are better weapon to use.

100%Agree on the lightstab idea. It doing 40vs vanguards just feels terrible honestly. But I would prefer a 5 dmg buff to the heavy stab as well instead of making the overhead even stronger maybe
The polehammer is already mostly an overhead machine and I prefer weapons with a less polarized dmg spread

hey Ziggy! relatively new to the channel but I've been around for a month or two and I've really enjoyed your content and have gone back to watch some your older stuff too. i jus wanna say that I really really like this kinda of video and finding Chivalry 2 creators who still upload that make high quality content has been a challenge in my experience. i love more analytical videos that open discussion around the game and I'd really like to see more videos in this style in the future. it raises good questions about the game balance and im sure it's gonna spark alot of conversation in the community. (especially with the 'polehammer op' crowd). of course I don't expect something as well thought out and put together as this every upload but I'd love to see more videos like this in the future. loved hearing what you have to think 👍
Man I'm glad someone's finally talking about this. I feel the same way about some of the smaller weapons.
The attacks stopping is both a blessing and a curse to me, it's great in formations and working together with your teammates to prevent teamkills. However, the Halberd is amazing at hitting the greatest amount of foes in one sweeping strike. In tight elbow to elbow fighting I prefer the pole hammer, but out in the open I excel at using the halberd.

Personally, i’ve always used polehammer a lot cuz
1. Lucerne is gorgeous
2. The sound she makes when special-bonking a crusader on the back of the head is just dopamine.

In the end it depends on how you like the weapon yourself and how you feel with it, which I think has a big impact too, that's why I love Greatsword and Helbard and hate one handers
I love PH, but I definitely noticed that I used it less and less after halberd was buffed. I’ve also found myself using heavy mace as my go to blunt weapon because I love how fast heavy drags during combos are. PH definitely has a lot of style factor though, and that tends to be the only reason why I seldom go back to it from time to time. This video however has sparked my need to return to PH, thank you

tbh all the polearm weapons have borked animations... gotta love they way they change from left hand to right hand weapon side by dematerializing their hands on the shaft and passing them right through each other while they somehow spin themselves and typically end up hitting people after travelling the tip of the weapon through the earth itself
pro tip: on the map the breach of boudwin the lead cart is a resupply but it doesn’t have a symbol or sound

i play this game to hit people with brooms, frying pans and throwing turds at people in deathmatch maps, honestly i'm not that bothered with weapons that much, honestly i could care less, but i can see a point in variation and i can agree with it since i play poleman a lot.
I've found Polehammer's niche is in its really weird accels in dueling. they land a split second before it looks like they should and it really throws people off

My fav weapon, which is always portrayed in game as garbage compared to a 2h sword. It's always shown as a passable weapon but never ever shown to be the powerhouse of an armor killer that it was.
I wanna contest that the halberd update which increased the dmg by +5 points to all those attacks actually made it one of the best weapons. It was probably always that good, but people weren't aware of it at the time
if polehammer and pole axe both got 11% range increase they'd be perfect IMO

Pole hammer could use a little extra range or extra stamina drain to enemies while using less stamina with it's special. I usually play footman and he does dash forward a little on his special and it does great as a support class with it's stamina drain from it's special great for opening up those pro turtles lol
I use the poleaxe alot and the accels on the short range left swing are very fast.
The reason I’d choose polehammer over halberd is if the entire enemy team consisted of knights and footmen. If most of the enemy team was vanguard, I’d choose halberd
But Halberd is basically as good against those classes.
Doesnt matter what weapon i carry i will still get asspacked by a messer or pole hammer 😂

yknow what? yeah i think it needs a buff, i love the idea of it being a SIDE GRADE! even if it was more in line with a "1v1 knight killing weapon", sure that hurt's it's reach in team fights, but the weapon already has the losest reach of the pole arms for Footman... i don't think all of it's damage needs a buff, only a bit to possibly out do the halberd to counter hitstop nad even further prioritize knight killing.

I got 99 problems but a polehammer ain’t one of them
The only thing pole hammer ( and pole axe ) really need is not having such garbage range on the slashes. If the slashes would have the same range as the overhead on both, I feel like they would be perfect. Pole axe I had a garbage time with last week, untill I started playing around the overhead and stab. But in TO you really feel that short range sometimes.
Slash is pretty close to overhead range (like 6% difference)
Alt slash range is extremely stubby though.

Dual Dane Axe level 166 here, I have noticed that I have been dying more at the hands of Halberd users, although Executioner Axes for some reason seem to be equally efficient as a Dane Axe on speed (one day i'll have to check that out). This video came out with the right timing. Some long range weapons are illusive of how fast they can be as a mid range such as a Dane Axe. By the time I see my Dane Axe into the enemy character, his Halberd, Executioner Axe, Longsword and maybe others I am forgetting hit me faster. For a relatively new player I am trying to figure out what are the actual differences in that regard because anim wise it doesn't match what I am seeing and I am making a lot of non visual mistakes because of that.
I would say to maybe slow down your gameplay a bit more and relax, that might help, but it's hard to help with what you're asking.
I agree I have been playing footman in to and duels and I have noticed that the halber does greatly better even the animations polehammer is easy to counter versus the janky animation of the halber
And also I believe people doesn’t notice how animations in this game have changed a lot of weapons like the messer overhead to stab animation or even the accel on the overhead with the greatsword
This game looks like great fun, wish i could play this game on console without sending my head through my desk everytime i stutter. Starting to get headaches...

It's actually MY halberd because I was the first halberd main in this entire videogame.
Considering the polehammer is my favorite weapon in medieval history, I will use it whether it was trash or just a little mediocre. I'm not qualified to say how it could or could not be buffed either way.

I love the polehammer. I just hate the class. I pick up polehammers though from dead opponents whenever I can. Change the weapon class that can use polehammer and it would be more popular.

I watch so many videos such as this, studying the game, and slowly improving my game, but they mean nothing when I am encountering cheats on a regular basis. Players who move faster, soak up damage etc. Europe seems particularly bad. It is so frustrating.
Which weapons are available to what classes is completely meaningless. The map is drowning at all times with any weapon you could want. I always play Guardian with short spear, I probably have 20 kills with it in my entire Chiv career

I'm a duelist who mains the pole axe. I use alot of pole arms and im now becoming intrigued with using the polehammer. However, now I'm debating what i should main between the pole axe and pole hammer. Do note that my PA is lvl 105 and my PH is about lvl 10 (i haven't used it much). But now that I've watched this video i need some recommendations from the viewers of this comment. I dont want to hear that i need to lvl up the PH, i know i need to do that. I just want opinions on which one is better.
Polehammer was good at handle hits, but since patch its pretty meh since you cant handle hit

I agree that it needs some help, however its animations are super scuffed to fight against... in high level duels if you come across a good polearm player its ridiculous.
also nah, leave the stab speed for halberd the same gawhd damn. that thing needs it in duels. its swing speed is so slow that anyone who knows what they are doing can keep you locked in a counter war almost indefinitely and the only way to really break out of it is to riposte-stab or riposte-overhead... shoutout your combat guide video for that.
this is opinion based obviously. I'm also the type of person that exclusively plays in duel servers so my perspective is going to be skewed to interactions in 1v1's.
as an edit/afterthought - the weapon balance currently seems pretty good to me. I think you are on the right track with the nerfing on the messer but I think its stamina damage is the big issue not so much its slash damage...
