Demons: Cats and bats
Librarians: Human and gorilla
a very real possibility with demons, the librarians I am not actually sure if they are a hybrid
No real need for a hybrid with the librarians its probably either some sort of ape thats rapidly evolved and mutated like everything else or humans that have deevolved

I feel that most of them are just a single animal that encountered rapid mutation post-war, and the mutations that were favorable were selected for. Radiation is the darndest thing when it comes to evolution, just take a look at the wildlife near Chernobyl. I believe the Demons, however, are a genetic experiment. They heavily resemble prehistoric reptilian creatures. It is possible the militaries of the time saw this as a very viable option for "war-beasts". This exploration of genetic mutation was cut short due to the war though.
Based on their redesign in *_Metro Exodus_* along with other mutants' redesigns making their origin species more easily identifiable, the Demon does indeed appear to be mutated from bats albeit quite heavily.
Seriously, you have GOT to cover all the redesigns in a video at some point.
The redesign of the Watchmen I kinda take issue with. They always acted like dogs, looked like dogs, etc. But in Exodus they look less dog-like and more rat-like. I dunno. I don't really like the Demon redesign either all that much, but that's just me. I tend to prefer things as they looked in whatever came first.
They hang upside down and sleep. I found one while exploring. It was really cool.

If they evolved naturally in the wasteland, I'd say they come from bats. Powered flight in vertebrates has only evolved three times and the three wing designs are all different, demon wings seem to he identical to those of bats. And the spare set of limbs could come from a mutation.
It's much more likely that they come from bats than house cats, assuming they evolved naturally.

I don’t think it’s possible for a Tetrapoda to mutate additional limbs unless it’s some kind of fused twin that develops differently somehow. We call those ancient fish with lungs and eventually feet ‘Tetrapods’ specifically because it’s basic body type is so invariable, adapted into everything from birds to mammals to reptiles and on. It always has the same basic structures, and as far as I know, we’ve only ever known it to lose limbs (as in whales), not gain them.

Something I noticed about the demons is that one of their favorite attacks is picking an individual up and then dropping them from a large height.
Certain birds are known to do this especially when they have food that has a hard shell they would pick it up carry it to a very high altitude and drop it from there to crack the shell open.
Another thing I noticed is that demons seem to be incredibly territorial creatures...
They seem to pick a fight with almost anything that encroaches upon them...
That being said their not Beyond cooperation either...
For example in Metro 2033 the first game when you first go to the surface with bourbon you are beset by several demons and instead of trying to fight each other over which one gets the meal they focus on trying to kill you first.
To me it seems as if the demons are far more intelligent than their beastly appearance would suggest.
Although I'm not suggesting their on par with the intelligence of a dark one or even a librarian they are still fiercely vicious creatures that have shown what I see to be an alarming amount of intelligence for a creature that's supposed to be just a giant bat demon.
As for how the demon came about to me it seems the demon most likely had undergone some form of genetic mutation of an alarming amount that or genetic tampering....
In a universe where ghosts are a real thing Anything is Possible.

A dolphin is significantly more intelligent than even a human but in the end it is still an animal...
The demon isn't smart like you or i are smart or even like the little one...
Perhaps a better way of putting it would be that it's incredibly clever and has incredible survival instincts...
Perhaps their thoughts are very basic and they focus only on how to acquire food where to sleep and how to breed...
maybe that is what the little one meant....
after all the little one is still a dark one even if he is a child their mental power is so strong that they can literally project their own thoughts into things...
Compared to the little one everything is probably stupid to it...
I just wanted to bring to light that in a world that is dying these creatures seem to be thriving...
and that means you either got to be really smart or the scariest m*********** on the Block or both
ReaperStrike 17 i believe the line "he is big, but stupid" perfectly encapsulates how they're surviving. The only thing we've seen that are capable of consistently taking on a Demon are Librarians. They're just big and strong. Most likely as intelligent as a big cat. Sure they're smarter than a turkey, but that isn't why they survive.

Theres a museum in last light that gives you access to the monsters standing still and I think provides info if you click on them, you just get it through the extra missions on the last light menu

Roanoke Gaming yeah it comes as part of the last light dlc however I found out very recently that the redux comes with all free dlc so as long as you own it you'll be able to check it out
I went ahead and checked there, on the main menu click chapters, new missions then developer kit and that should take you to the museum if you cant find it let me know and i can provide footage

@@seretith3513 Radiation damages the cells, and can cause certain species to experience a wide range of mutations should they not die of radiation poisoning. In terms of genetic mutations, it doesn’t cause anything to really crop up due to the speed at which humans reproduce. In something like rabbits, you’d see genetic mutations much more quickly due to how fast they reproduce. And under normal circumstances, radiation doesn’t cause accelerated evolution, though it can cause adaptive evolution to occur faster than would normally take place due to environmental pressure placed on the creature. Humans being an exception as radiation damages our bodies too much for us to rapidly undergo a form of adaptive evolution. But IRL, radiation isn’t picky about what body part it damages, it damages the cells themselves. And only people with radiation poisoning would likely be incapable of conceiving children due to the cells dealing with radiation throughout the entire body. Humans are still capable of having children with other humans, as our species is Homo Sapiens. If you’re human, you’re a Homo Sapien.
Honestly bats seem the most likely. It would be a much less drastic mutation from bat to demon than from house cat to demon, though theory 3 is also possible, I just don’t see the reason for it

I think the most likely answers are either they mutated from bats, or where a biological weapon made by the Russians like the Dark Ones. Then again I still operate by the head cannon that the Metro Series is set in the Fallout Universe during the resource wars.

I don't think we've had a good look of the Demon in the upcoming Exodus but judging by the figure we see it seems they look more gargoyle like.
Something you may have missed is a structure in the bird's chest called the Keel this is a very important component as to how birds are able to fly when generally the amount of mass that their chest is doubles the size of their winds certain animals such as the albatross and hummingbird have very unproportionate limbs to their weight when you take a look at the creatures chest you can see a very similar structure wrapping around the rib cage this is that muscle and cartilage structure known as the Kiel

My question about the origin of demons is about them having six limbs, wings, legs and arms. I don't know of any creature they could originate from that isn't a four limbed animal. I don't know if that was taken into consideration when designing the demon, but if it was I think it would point to government creation or it would require some extreme mutations which is possible in the metro universe.

This is a great video, and absolutely wild to see. I was the one who put forward the tiger theory on the wiki many years back, and you've definitely got some good counterarguments against it. I do have to point out that we see some pretty drastic changes in librarians, and if they are indeed humans the way you speculate then they come from a species with even longer generation times than tigers.
I think housecats are a very solid possibility here. The roar and dentition was what really sold me on it being a tiger, but I could see a roar showing up in heavily mutated small cats.

All of these are good theories. I'd be inclined to lean toward the cat one for the reasons you pointed out (they have cat like features, the baby hisses, cats breed at a high rate, the roar) but I also really like cats lol.

Another good video man. Nice theories about their origin as well. Originally i was inclined to think they evolved from bats for a couple reasons.
They already have flight as a mammal and to my knowledge not an easy achievement.
Second with that much radiation i would imagine that bugs get bigger witch is what a lot of bats eat. There for as the bugs got bigger they would have to get bigger as well in order to survive. Thus from their bigger size hunting other creatures would much easier.
Through hunting larger creatures the forward growth of arms makes sense to help hold down and kill their new found prey.
Only part of it i don't get is why they would develop cat eyes. (I would rather have them evolve from bats so i can keep my little fuzzy buddies) :P
Also you think you could cover the great pledge within the pre-fallout world you mentioned briefly in your fallout history video, i haven't heard of it before.

If that were the case wouldn't the third theory be closest, if so that would remove all the fun of figuring out their evolution.
Probs bats. Look at the wings. Nearly identical in structure. In nature it takes incredibly long for such complex features to develop and seeing as bats are the only ones that has wings like that it only makes sense.

There's tons of monsters, objects, demons, plagues, and other unnatural phenomenons that are threats to humanity.
And also check out the System Shock series it has one of the best AI villains and scariest types of monsters there's even a parasitic hivemind in the second game. Doom is also pretty cool as well.

Considering the merciless majesty inherent in their kind, I'm predisposed to believe that they would show you no mercy. That being said, they are still adorable.

Roanoke Gaming average deathclaw vs average demon yea. But the other forms of deathclaws are just far too beefy for a demon to handle. But im sure some super demons are out there that could equal them. Maybe.
I mean sure the demon can pack a big hit since it has air superiority. However I feel the death claw can come up top due it's speed, and it can use its surroundings to combat the demon. As seen in fallout 4 it brushes rock and dust in the players face... Someone should actually animate that fight though for sure
How can you guys forget that deathclaws are as intelligent as humans and can speak, as shown in fallout 2? They can just make some armor or plasma bombs and dominate the surface.

This seemed to be evolved bats the new fallout game fallout 76 also has a large bat like creature so the demon is definitely related to bat probably a being evolved from bats as bats have the wings as that can be seen in demons

If it's a bat, then it raises the question of how they developed an extra set of limbs when all mammals only have two sets of limbs. When I first played Metro, I got the impression that they were artificially developed and got loose.
