When the Romans entered West Africa in 46 B.C., they saw Africans and called them Maures, from the Greek adjective Mauros, meaning dark or black. It is from Mauros and the Latin term Marues that the word Moor is derived. Since the inhabitants of North Africa were black, the Romans and later the Europeans called them Moors. It is no coincidence that the land inhabited by the Moors was called Mauritania and Morocco, meaning "Land of the Blacks."
@nenu es muy bueno tu ingles, como te llamas? yo soy leandro,la verdad soy cubano pero mi familia vino de muchas parte de espana,y me facina la historia de mis antepasados, ahora vivo en la florida US
The Moors of the host wore silks and colourful clothes which they had taken as booty their horses reins were like fire, their faces as black as pitch, the handsomest among them was black as a cooking pot and their eyes blazed like fire; their horses as swift as leopards, their horsemen more cruel than the wolf that comes to a sheepfold in the nightOh luckless Spain! description of the Moors written in the 1200s A.D. and cited in, An Introduction to African Civilizations, by
The Moorish rulers lived in this palace, while the monarchs of Germany, France and England, dwelt in big barns with no windows or chimneys, with only a hole in the roof for smoke to exit. (Source- blackhistorystudies.com).
ok, here's the absolute truth, we are all 99.9% the same genetically speaking, so our genetic difference is minimal. The biggest difference without a doubt are cultural differences which we should learn to appreciate. Whatever history took place, it's in the past to be learned from, let's remember that regardless of race we are only slightly different from one another which makes us unique! Still we are more similiar to one another than we might think (99.9%).
Europa is a Phoenician princess in Greek mythology. Her name is the name for Europe in Latin and other languages. It does not mean "black princess" in Latin...
@nenu did you watch the whole documentary???? there was a period where they would all get along, and i dont think a world where anybody who submits to christian rule is a positive example either
@DIJV79 what does European bankruptsy have to do with whether Islam is more civilized that Christianity? For one thing Europeans have been leaving Christianity in droves. Secondly, many of these countries with troubles are there because they have too many social programs for their people.
All religions which spread by the sword should not expect mercy when confronted by their history. I know my civilisations. But in this PC world, do you?
We Berbers would fight every one with the sword and include the arabs we where unstppeble If we wantend that time we would ruled the world but the money and the aroogance and white woman diveted us and braught us out defeat and lose
as dark reddish brown like the Indi or as blacks or Ethiopians in early documents. The notion of the early Berbers as being whites or Caucasoid is a new and racist one related to the concept of the African Hamite. Certainly the original Berber-speakers were never referred to as anything but black or something near it until the 12th century and were otherwise considered the color of Abyssinians and other so called Indi. Im useing facts im useing witnessess
@nenu western societies like which one other than the US?well in the US simply because its a country of immigrants and all the killing already happened, the US is the result of many years of struggling by minorities who were not allowed to worship freely, besides other conflicts, the fact that YOU dont see it happen doesnt mean it doesnt happen, besides if you want a united and prosperous country it wouldnt be a good idea to suppress the people who live in it due to their choice of religion
if instead of killing and hating each other for worshiping a different religion they could work together to make beautiful things like they once did in spain this world would be so much different and prosperous, but all i see is resentment and a desire to blame every negative thing on one another,i feel pity for this world
@MuslimBrother786 open minded??? whoever consider the apartheid system of islamic Spain as a positive example... seriosly, I hope that person never get to hold any political responsability
Chreat presentation. But please keep in mind that "Moors" is an Orientalist term, and it does not represent all the Muslims of Islamic Iberia. The word comes from Mauritania, referring to the Almoravid and Almohad North African dynasties that also ruled Muslim Iberia, or Al-Andalus. The "Muslims" of Al-Andalus represents Arabs and Amazighs. Also, the word "Moor" has led to the term "Moro", which is now very derogatory. Hugh Kennedy's writings on Al-Andalus also assert this. Thank you
Wonderful documentary and gorgeous architecture. 😍
Ya Allah, return our victory back. Only You have The Absolute Power to grant our wish O The Merciful and Almighty God. Ameen.

Spectacular!!!i love it!
so amazing! i'm glad people are becoming less ignorant and more open minded :-)
