This guy is the definition of a true instructor. Not some "guru" who's trying to oversell an over priced course. Just solid, straight to the point information. I recommend all viewers support channels like this in any way you can as a way to pay it forward.
I love how you explained this simply and step by step very clearly, thank you for that!
You're most welcome and glad you enjoyed it :)
One of the many things I love about your videos and tutorials is they're not only helpful but they're short! Quick and easy. I don't have to spend an hour or two to get the same information! Love Rocket and all your tutorials!
Thanks Trisha...that totally made my day to read :)
Wow that was a great tip about choosing the odd number or whatever for the bids! Thanks! You answered the question I was trying to find the answer to.
You're the first person to explain this in an easy way. I'll be getting the Rocket. Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Good work, thanks. I have to watch a few videos, as some parts were over my head.
I’m new at this.
Have a few books on Amazon, and feel Im ready to advertise.
Again, thank you.
Great, fresh info, as usual. Thank you, Dave!
Thank you!
Thank you for making this a simple task. I love this video!
You are so welcome!
Thank you, this was unbelievably helpful! I would have been willing to pay a lot for that knowledge.
Glad it was helpful!
Wonderful, answered many questions! I'll check out your course too! Thanks!
Awesome and glad to have helped!
Great video and advice. Thank you. Especially love the bidding strategy.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi Dave,
Thanks so much for all your awesome videos! I used KDP Rocket to pull out a good handful of keywords, about 150.
I'm super new to Amazon ads, but I know that with a lot of other ad services your CTR is the best initial metric to check relevance for the ads you have running. What is an average and what is a great CTR for Amazon Sponsored ads? How concerned should I be if I don't hit the average?
Thanks!
thanks so much for this video, super helpful!
Awesome video. Thank you. It is exactly what I was looking for.
Awesome and glad to have helped!
Great video. And some wonderful tips.
I would add this. If you're bold enough to do automatic targeting, you might want to add your own author name, book series, and book titles as negative keywords. Amazon loved to charge me 57 cents per click for my own name.
I also use "Books by (my author name)" as a negative keyword.
Also, I always ignore Amazon's suggested bid. I try to get away with bidding a lot lower. More often than not, it works.
Great tip. Thank you! The suggested bid reminds me of schoolyard bargaining: "How much you want for it?" 10 year-old me would ask. "How much you got?" was the inevitable answer.
Thank you for the tip! Good information right there
That's great advice! And I agree with not doing the suggested bid. I think it's crazy to do that.
This was very useful. Many thanks. I'm now in the process of promoting my books. Hope your advice helps.
Great
Thank you. This was very helpful.
This is the first time I watched one of your videos and I'm hitting subscribe. Thanks very much! The one thing I would love to know that wasn't stated is what a typical daily budget might be.
Thanks for the sub!
My God. All i want do is write a book. lol! 😄
Thanks for a great and very informative video Dave.
Awesome and glad you liked it.
This video has helped me a lot.
Thank you so much for this.
Glad it helped!
Thank you very much, I just found out your channel and it's the best!!!
Welcome!
Thank you for this video! There's some good tips in there.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for this video! I like that it is step by step and easy to follow.
Will definitely check out your website, as my e-book is available on amazon but I am just not making that much sales and would love to change that :)
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks ! It was really helpful !
Thank you for this video, very helpful .Keep it up
You are welcome
This is a very good video! Thanks a lot for explaining.

You’re the first guy to ever explain this clearly, well done ...it’s not easy to understand, And I like my KDP rocket
Thanks! That really means a lot to hear :)
Yep! Rocket is invaluable and Dave’s free course is gold!
Thanks for your explaination I’m really enjoyed with that.

Excellent!
Excellent tutorial 😀👍👏
Thanks man!
Thanks for the tutorial.
You bet!
Excellent video. I am taking over running my book on amazon myself next week after three years with my e book publisher. I will use this and will give you some feedback. Thank you
Wonderful!
@@Kindlepreneur getting there put a couple of advertisements up but no clicks and no costs over the first two days. What is the average impressions you get per advertisement per day for books. I am only getting around 50 impressions a day.
Great video, thanks but I can't find much info on individual product ads. How many keywords / asins are needed - still 300+? Also what if some books don't have ASIN numbers? Is there a resource anywhere for more info on amazon ads via individual product targeting? many thanks!!
This is such a great video. Way easier to understand.
I don't think you touched on it. But for the daily budget. That's the amount you are willing to spend on it per day only if people click?
How much do you usually put? Because if you use no end date, I can't imagine people putting a high amount unless they're able to do so. Thanks!
I start with $5 a day.
Thank you!
Hi ! Thanks for this tutorial.
At 04:35 you choose the Kindle Edition. What about the paperback ?
Should we add paperback to this campaign or make a dedicated campaign the each version ?
Because it seems there is no good solution here :
1) target ebooks competitor + add our ebook version + our paperback version to our campaign.
Pro: if a customer click on the ad and prefer buying the paperback, amazon track this for us
Con: the ACOS is wrong (too low). The paperback cost around x4 than an ebook.
2) target ebooks competitor + add just our ebook version to our campaign.
Pro: data is pure for ebook
Con: the ACOS is also wrong because we miss people buying the paperback version after click on the ebook ad
Do you want to include the paperback hardcover and Ebook in the same KDP ad? Or do you usually pick just one format because it sells best?
Great video! Do you have something that explains the "bid" part. I don't quite understand what a bid is.
I do in the full free video course: AMSCourse.com
You are awesome DAVE! Love your videos, Podcasts, and Website! One question for you, Do you advertise in Australia? It seems that something is not right because on the description, it says "Importing from the USA is not the same as local " why :)? Thanks
Hmm...not sure. Perhaps its based on the physical books - but not sure.
Thank you for this video! I wish I could use also the creative section or the lockscreen ads, but guess? They don't exist for Italian market! Anyway, I usually do the product target campaigns by categories and before your video I thought I was doing great, because every month I sold many books... But you said that this kind of campaign is fruitless... And now I have doubts. Lots of doubts.
Hey, if its working for you, then rock on. All books are different. But that being said, you might want to really look at product targeting via ASIN. Might give you a boost.
Thanks, Dave.
You bet and glad to have helped!
Thank you so much !
You're welcome!
Hey Dave! Very grateful for your really helpful videos! I have two books on the same topic. Do you think, it would be better to create one AMS campaign with the same set of keywords from KDP Rocket and include both books? Or better to create two separate AMS campaigns for these books, thus each would use the same set of keywords... But I am afraid that the last option implies that I could probably compete with myself in these case... I`d appreciate your thoughts on this. Thank you!
I can't say for sure because there are a lot of variables that play into things...but I will say, I LOVE to experiment in Amazon Ads, and learn as I go. You'll gain key genre/topic specific insight to your market though that.
You explained it twenty times more clearly than Amazon. I'm a newcoming author and I use this video as a basis for my campaigns. But I have a question: When on lockscreen ads, which of the two pacing methods would you suggest for a newcomer?
Thanks and glad to have helped. As for the question, honestly, I am not a fan of Lockscreen ads. I think they are too competitive (so higher CPC), and don't give enough options to make it more specific to your kind of book (leading to being more competitive then) and when people pick up their kindle, they re int he mood to read, not shop.
@@Kindlepreneur Thank you for replying. Indeed when people pick up their Kindle they're not in the mood to shop. I have checked your other videos, made my blurb better but I still have very few clicks and no sales, that's why I considered this alternative. Any ideas about what I'm doing wrong? And I hope I'm not disturbing you.
@@kyanos-asteras You probably need to increase your bids or niche down
Pls I have a question
For instant if I run ads for a particular book, and it have already made at least 4 sales
And I want to change the book cover, will it affect my ad?
Very elucidating video. Thanks. A question, when you list negative terms, shouldn’t ‘free’ by itself suffice for canceling ‘free books’ and everything else that contains ‘free’?
It should
Q: With KDP Select, buyers in Kindle Unlimited get the book for free, and I'm paid about 40 cents for every 100 pages read, correct? Is it economically feasible to run Amazon Ads when the book is in the KDP Select program, or should I only run ads when I'm assured that 100% of book sales will be for a book priced $3-$10?
Very interesting...here l am learning 🌎
Thanks for watching
Excellent video, Dave! Does your company offer personal coaching for beginners in running Amazon ads?
Thanks. As for coaching, no.
Thanks Dave
No problem and glad you liked it!
Hi, I've tried the Rocket but it doesn't get me any sales. I did better with 30 of my own keywords comparatively. Do you have any advice?
Great video! I have one question for you, how would you do? I have published two books so far, I am working on a few more. Shall I make a website for all of these or just work separately on a landing page for each? Thank you for your answer.
Depends. Are they all in the same genre? More than likely it is better to do separate landing pages. Unless you're trying to build your author brand.
@@Kindlepreneur Thanks, no it will not be in the same genre, maybe few of them but not all.
Hi Dave,
Is it better to invest in one book or multiple ones at a time in advertising? Should I narrow it down to a few or go full monty on one?
Depends on the time you have and the confidence you have in understanding AMS system.
First of all: Thank you for listening to my complain about having troubles with the "ñ" on rocket, it's fixed now, you really listen to feedback.
okay, about ads, now that they changed a lot from last year, I dont know how to edit my add text, or copy the ones thatn are already made to just erase old keywords and add new ones. Any tips?
The ads coures, was updated in February, so the AMSCourse.com should be up to date. With regards to your Ads Text, sadly, they don't have a way to update or edit that. You can see the ad text inside your dashboard when you click on that campaign and click on the campaign details though.
Does Publisher Rocket export into a file that can be uploaded? Or do you have to put the Publisher Rocket results into the Amazon template?
It exports into a csv file. Then the best way is to open the csv file, copy the column (one column at a time) of data and paste it into Amazon's ad dashboard. This is WAY better than putting it in Amazon Template or even if we had Rocket auto export as an Amazon template - the template requires you to put in type and CPC for each and every keyword before you can upload it. If you aren't sure about the process, the tutorial videos on Rocket shows how.
Nice Videos
Thanks
Couple things I've learned, correct me if I'm wrong: After studying the search terms on my campaigns, I started adding DVD, audio, hardcover, hardback to my list of negative words. They were costing me a lot of clicks and gaining no sales. Also, the book title "The Quilt" is a comp for my book Unbroken, and I had that as broad, phrase, and exact. Broad and Exact worked; but Phrase cost me a lot of clicks from people who had typed searches like 'quilting supplies'...
Yup - that's key to this whole Amazon ads is that as you do this, you will learn certain things that work and don't work for you. Experiment and grow. For one author I worked with, the inclusion of DVD was HUGE for her. But for you, it wasn't.
When I advertize my book on fb, some people want to read it but they don't have an Amazon. They ask me to send them the PDF on their email address. May I gift or sell that way? Do I break the Amazon rule? Thank you!
I love KDPRocket. Do you know if we're able to use KDP video ads for books? I tried looking for it but couldn't find a way to do it. Thanks for your contributions to the publishing community.
Aweseome. As for your question, sadly, I don't know of a way.
@@Kindlepreneur Okay thanks for your answer.
Thanks 🌎
You bet
Is it better to advertise and promote the ebook or the hard cover version? Does it make a difference?
It doesn't really make a difference. Amazon shoppers are trained to decide if they want a book first and then select the version they want.
Thanks for your awesome series of AMS ad videos! Almost two weeks ago, I created 9 campaigns, with at least 200 keywords(with the help of Publisher Rocket). The ads have a total of 150,000 impressions. So far, my click through rates are all below .20% and I have not had ANY orders through the campaign! I'm baffled - especially considering my book is a #1 Amazon new release in 4 categories (thanks to you!)! My book cover and little ad blurbs seem to resonate with those of I've shown it to. Any recommendations on next steps?? Thank you so much in advance!
Not sure - but the data shows that (if it is a .2%) click through rate, that thousands of people saw your cover and title, and became interested enough, and clicked on your book...but not one decided to buy the book. Asking friends or acquaintances who know your book already and you probably doesn't give the best picture since they'll be influenced on the answer. What's most likely is that they see your cover, but when they get to your book description, they are confused.
@@Kindlepreneur Thank you. I'll work on my description. I also thought that a .20 and below CTR (most of my CTRs are .05-.1) is very low, right? So couldn't there be a problem before they get to see the description too? I also wonder if the price is too high? ($9.99 for Kindle and $14.99 for print - though that seems to be aligned with similar books in my category). Thank you!
Can you schedule ads for a book still on preorder? Do you need to setup separate ad campaigns for the print and ebook versions? What if you want to increase spend in successive days? Do you need to run a separate campaign for each day?
You can, but beware. Shoppers will see your preorder ad, and click it. But I've found that many, once they land on your book's preorder page, then discover it is preorder and don't buy it. So, you conversion rate will be low.
I would say it’s social media ads and also google ads work good for books. However,I had problems with launching SM ads even though it’s considered easy to put in place ,after all targeting plays a big role. Then I found a platform in the internet called next level ninjas that one of the services was media buzz for Amazon products. I tried my luck and it worked, they really helped me in this and later I just got some tips about Sm ads like the time of publishing ,keywords, etc.
Very cool. I'll have to look into that.
Thaaaaanks!!!!!
You're welcome
For the suggestion box ...can you do a how-to-enter- keywords video someday, no secrets or combos or anything, just good general form to enter in the 7 slots. It would help a lot & you’ve got the teaching touch, plus it relates to the biz..
I haven't done a video but, one of be best works was this article that not only explains that, but did experiments to prove it: kindlepreneur.com/7-kindle-keywords/
@@Kindlepreneur Actually, I did read that article a while back and applied the idea I took away from it back in No, try just phrases in keyword slots instead of filling them with scannable, relevant words, over 120 plus books that were selling once in a while, a few good sellers now & then... The phrase-per-slot approach failed miserably for those few months and they were phrases I deduced from excel sheets parsed down using the KDP Rocket app.
So my experiment went south when I did that but that was on me for going all in. I have notebooks and things like that mostly with a few real content books , but I believe scannable, relevant alternative words is the way to go in all 7 slots, fill all you can. And I’m seeing sales pick up again slowly, very slowly. Phrases were just not happening,
Your app helped me realized my Kindle book should be a print book in NY Guide market, (top sellers that regularly make a few grand will often make $45 in Kindle sales) so I’ll see if that goes better. I think Amazon is just a scan-bot with key words and puts them together as phrases if your book works for those phrases …We’re all making the best guess we can. Guess you have to get your titles & subtitle in order first.
Just sharing my experiment results. A good general format video for the 7 slots someday is what I’ll be looking for but keep these coming., Could make it a book about Golf Clubs or something-how to foramt better...Cheers.
Thank you
You're welcome 😊
What is the bid? You said you set it at .51... what is this for?
loved your video.. from pakistan..
Thanks!
Thanks for the video! a question, can you advertise a book in Spanish, if I live in Mexico?
Yes you can
@@Kindlepreneur thanks :)
I took the full free Amazon Adds course after watching this video, but still have question. I've had an add going for a couple of months and it's been doing relatively well, not great but well. I want to change my custom text to see if I get more clicks. Will it mess up what I have going on. In other words, will it do something to the algorithms I've established and place me at the bottom of the pack again?
Awesome. As for your question, it shouldn't.
So are sponsored ads the same as like when I do a search for say USB wire (or some random product) and the top choices at the top of the screen will say sponsored above them. It would put my book at the top like that?
Yup
How to add images to your book purchasing page? I saw some books have images under tge editorial reviews section. Could you tell me the way?
Not sure. For many of those that do they are through a publisher which has extra capabilities.
I would try next level ninjas, they're good for product launches & verified reviews. They also do social media buzz, haven't seen it on any other platform - got some amazing Facebook content thanks to them!
Q: Should I run AMS Book Ads when my book is on Kindle Unlimited (KDP Select)? I may not make enough from page reads to cover the cost of advertising...
That depends. Many authors do and they see it positively work for them.
Question: Is it against policy to upload the same book in a different book size? I figure since it isn't simple to make a different sized book for kdp and we don't know which size is going to make the most money.
I'm not sure.
Very nice 🌎
Thanks 😊
Can you tell me the ideal number of pages a kindle e book should have.
Depends on a LOT of things.
I don’t know if I misheard but you’ve got Load pay off but you say loan pay off
Hello, I'll like to know if we could run product ads and keyword ads concurrently?
Yes you can.
@@Kindlepreneur thank you for your response
The budjet per day you set...is that definate that Amazon wont go over that, costing you more than you expected?
Yes, the've never gone over.
Hello everyone, firstly congratulations for the valuable video Dave.
Secondly, I need some help,
I don't know which keyword is better for my book, the choice is between "Investing In Stocks For Beginners" and "Stock Market Investing For Beginners". I've noticed that there aren't books that have "Investing In Stocks For Beginners" as title (the keyword is a suggested term on Amazon), but "Stock Market Investing For Beginners" has 2'000 results, that is too much. Thank you.
Dear Dave,
In your course, exactle in video "3.4 Grouping Your Keywords for Campaigns", you use "Keywords Search" for the first book example and "AMS Keywords search" for the second one.
Is this a mistake?
What would we actually use for creating a campaign?
Thanks in advance
Oh dear...yup...that was a mistake. I'll have that changed this week. Thanks for the heads up.
@@Kindlepreneur So, what should we use? Keywords Search or AMS Keywords. Thanks!
AMS Keyword
I couldn't understand custom text at all. Sorry. I also couldn't understand what to enter with Enter List. Should I enter all the target words I think will do? So confusing.
Please create a more current video on Amazon ads.
I'm actually working on one as we speak :)
Im the 1000th like :D
Cool!
When is Publisher Rocket coming to Canada?
Soon
@@Kindlepreneur Okay great look forward to it! Will you release a post when it is?
Can you run an ad campaign while enrolled in Kindle Select? Should you?
Yes
@@Kindlepreneur Thanks!
yo, can you click the i icon next to "bid" at 9:08...thanks
yes
Hi Dave, many thanks for the useful info you share. I was going to set my first AMS campaign for a contemporary romance book but this is what popped up on the screen: At this time, books that contain mature or erotic content are not eligible for advertising. Do you have any thoughts on this? is this something that's likely to change or should we, romantica-erotica writers forget about amazon ads?
Sadly I think Amazon Ads won’t work for Erotica any time soon.
How many keywords should we add on amazon search
I do multiple campaigns at a time with 500+ keywords each.
