  • Feel a chill in the dark,
    twilight falls.
Feel the beat of your heart,
    danger calls.
Up to the rooftop, out in the rain...
    Well I'm planning it out,
    day by day.
    There's no room for doubt,
    just one way.
Up to the rooftop, out in the rain...
And I'm looking out over West Berlin.
Feeling freer now than I've ever been.
When the sun sets over West Berlin,
    I'll be leaving,
    I can't come back again.
And I'm looking out over West Berlin,
    West Berlin.
In the flood of the light,
    safety will shine.
We'll be high out of sight,
    on steel cable line.

Never heard of this until today even though I like a lot of prog rock, especially Marillion and It Bites to name but two bands with roots in the genre and Camel were from England. The Cold War still resonates today in so many ways. Little did we know as it ended in 1991 that the next ten years would only be a brief interregnum before the turmoil increased worldwide once more. The optimism of the 1990s ( not to downplay the seriousness of conflicts still occurring) soon dissipated. 99 Red Balloons by Nena, Leningrad and We Didn't Start The Fire Billy Joel, Two Tribes Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Russians Sting and Nikita Elton John are also powerful and moving Cold War songs. I cannot believe it is 40 years since the year of FGTH, 1984.

@@MaxisMaximalI was 19 when the Berlin Wall fell and is still moves me so much to think of what it represented for people in Germany, all of Europe and the world, symbolising the impending end of communism in eastern Europe. My generation knew we were witnessing history. The news footage was incredibly dramatic, especially the reports from Romania about the fall of Ceausescu and the triumphant appearance of Dubcek and Havel on the balcony in the Czechoslovakia capital Prague. Incredible to this day. The joyous scenes in West Berlin were amazing.

@@MaxisMaximalWow, so you have lived it. It must have been an incredible period no doubt with some challenges along the way for those who made the transition from East Germany to West Germany and for both nations pre and post unification.

@@MaxisMaximal I live near Liverpool. Hamburg is, of course, where The Beatles honed their craft before going stratospheric!
