@@GROWLO good for you! it and the book changed my life in HUGE ways! it remained my favorite movie for years. still might be my favorite. the backbone of my life philosophies are from this movie and the book. service to others, everything has a reason and it's up to you to find it, cleaning a windshield, several others. this movie competes tightly for position as my favorite with The Man From Earth. have you read any of dan millmans other books?

I read the book back in 1987. It helped a teenager both wake up, and grow up.

@@Emptiness512 socrates is dans great great grandfather. joy and dan are his grandchildren, but joy and dan are cousins to each other. and joy is dans wife in real life. socrates was born in russia and had a very hard life. he fell in love with a girl from his childhood and they were separated for years. when they reunited they had a kid, but socrates didn't know that. he reunited with her again years later and found out he had a little girl. he took his little girl to america... dan and joy generations later. you can read all about it in the book The Journeys of Socrates written by dan millman. socrates had a journal of his life and dan turned it into that book.
fyi: the book the way of the peaceful warrior is a mostly true story. dan says he's added a few things to help the reader learn the lessons socrates has taught him. while it's mostly true, dan unfortunately leaves it to us to decide what happened and what didn't. he thinks we'll learn best that way. the movie is the same thing as the book with a lot of bits left out (as is every movie based on a book). what happened to dan in the movie and book is pretty much entirely true events. so you can be happy that dan and joy really got married and had 3 girls but sad because socrates "trancends" in the book by going into the gas station bathroom and becoming a bright light before disappearing. in the movie he simply ghosts dan. as in he was supposed to come with him but he just disappears without a word.
there. i spoiled everything without giving away too many plot points.
