Craving the red Lea chips now
Me all day đ
Absolutely Red Lea chips with paprika
Loads of praprika seasoning. I remember it was so popular they took the shaker away and you had to be in the know to ask for it.
LOL! I remember that happening too đ
honestly same đ€Ł
Oh man. I grew up in Cabra and Red Lea is still a memory from my childhood. Thanks for the great video. I live in Japan now, so being able to see the foods I ate growing up gives me so much nostalgia.
From Cabra to Japan!!! That's amazing!! What are you doing over there? I'm so jealous!
@@SydneyFoodBoy I'm currently teaching at a private elementary school. If you ever make it to Nagoya, give me a yell and I'll show you the local food joints.
I grew up in Cabra and this video brought back so many good childhood memories. Loved how you described Red Lea chips, a pork roll and sugar cane as the holy trinity! So true! đ Growing up my mum would cook every day and made everything from scratch, but the only times we ever got âtake outâ for dinner was the BBQ meats from that shop in the alley! Canât believe theyâre still around! Love your content, keep up the great work mate!
Thanks so much for watching Jenna! I still think of this video as a little dedication to all the kids who grew up in Cabra like us đ glad it brought you back some memories!
3:15 Gu Chai Gue!! A classic traditional Teochew delight! And yes pan fried is the way to go!!!
Yes!!! We on the same vibe Hayden đ
Yessss and donât forget the sweet fish sauce with it!!
This video popped up in my recommendations. Great potential and I actually enjoyed the content. It has been decades since I ventured out to Cabra. Good luck with your youtube channel. Love your work.
Thank you so much! Means a lot đ
yesss bro putting our culture on the map. loved this video. keep up the quality content
Thanks brother đ
From a white boy, this is wholesome af
They probably very old fashioned
Hi guys! We made a sequel video!! Check out the BEST CHEAP EATS IN BURWOOD here: czcams.com/video/PnCMzOs3RGk/video.html
I don't live in Sydney now, but I lived in and around Cabramatta for the best part of 30 years. An absolutely awesome place. My wife and I could eat breakfast, sharing one meal, in BKK plaza for $13. Freshest seafood was in the alley between John St. and the multi-story carpark. The only downside was trying to find parking - get there before 08:30 or win the lotto.
Still easier to win the lotto đ just kidding! Thanks for the comment Brett, Cabramatta misses you as much as you miss Cabramatta!
I honestly love your videos! .
It would be great if you do budget vids in other suburbs in Sydney.
I miss cabra and I definitely coming back soon ! Keep up the good work, it's very entertaining:)
Thanks so much Julie đ it's on my radar! I like doing the cheap eats because I can actually afford it LOL so that means a lot of others can go out and try the foods themselves!
Great video mate, 20 years ago when I was 20 we used to walk from Smithfield to Cabra to get all the yummy treats, glad to see the place is still the bomb! Was pretty dangerous back then but looks OK now, I'd love to go back and do the walk again some day, thanks for the great vid, just subscribed!
This is totally a must-watch for Sydney newbie!! I am excited to visit Cabramatta! đ thank you!
Thanks for watching Kim đ
Oh the Vietnamese one
Me and my family went to Cabramatta following this video and we had the best time thank you so much for making this guide. We ended up going to 4 places you mentioned :))
That's so awesome! Thanks so much for heading out and trying Jade! Stay safe these next few weeks
Hey matie, this is some grade A content. You'll be at 100k subs by August.
Cheers
Hey brother, this means a lot. Thank you so much đ thanks heaps for watching and supporting
Yaas!! We need more influencers representing the West đđ»
Also Kaysone Sweets does the best banana fritters đ€€
They sure do đ thanks heaps for watching!
From a senior migrant: Just too far to go there. U can go to Burwood and Campsie instead. Food is great and cheap. Today Asian food is everywhere. When I landed in Sydney in 1966 it cost me A$1 to buy a good Chinese meal. The meal was so big that it can feed 2-3 people. I worked 1 night and earned $5. My sister had a Dim Sim restaurant in George St. China town and u had to wait for sometimes 1-2 hours before managing to get in. She made A$30,000 a week. An average worker at that time made $60 a week. Those good times are gone!! Bad luck u are under now a mean government. In those days life was really good. Houses cost $30,000 to buy. Everything is free. My school gave me a ticket to travel free and that includes bus, train, ferry. All my textbooks and stationery are free. Education is free and all the way to PhD. Medical course is free. Now it costs up to $85,000 a year. Australia is now heavy in tax, heavy in traffic fines, food is so expensive that u want to cry. U have police raptor 13 who attacked foreigners. He hated Chinese. Australians racism surfaces under Scott Morrison and Pauline Hensen and his foreign minsters. Vietnam is good now, go home. China is good now, go home.
congrats, I'm now in love with Cabramatta! I know why you're always smiling, Vietnamese food is so damn good
LOL! Vietnamese food sure is. Thanks for watching Douglas đ
Kev, Iâm starving now. Havenât been to Cabra in way too long..! Great stuff!
About time for another Cabra run đ thanks for watching Dave!
So glad that Sydneyfoodboy was posted on the Bahn mi appreciation FB page .....this guy is a must do subscription...GET ON IT
Means a lot, thank you so much!
That's how I found him and now catching up on everything
Just moved to Sydney. This videos awesome , learning all the suburbs by the food experiences đ excited to see these areas and try it myself.
Welcome to Sydney Carly đđ
Just discovered your channel! Great recommendations, spot on all the cheap eats and its the best!
Thanks so much Tony đ
Love this! Thanks for sharing all these great places!!!
Hey it's you! Thank you for watching đ
I was only a kid 45 years ago growing up near Cabramatta... The transformation started in the late 70's... I cannot believe it's still called John St? But the food looks great. The people are genuinely friendly. Looking forward to visit and a beaut feed đ
Definitely take a trip down memory lane soon Steve! I've seen photos of Cabramatta back then, the transformation is amazing!
I can't believe (after 35 odd years) they're still famous for their chips. I love how the Red Lea name is still there... only faded. Was there last weekend, that sign brought back good, classic memories.
Growing up in Cabramatta for you đ nostalgia at its finest
@@SydneyFoodBoy was the first place I experienced the joy of Chicken Salt OMG... good work keep it up đ
I don't wanna click "like", I wanna click "love" ! great informative video :)
Great vid, Kev! Love how much you got for $20! I grew up eating Cabra Red Lea hot chips and I am much older than you! đ It is definitely an institution. keep up the great reviews, one day I will get to one of your recommendations! , Lien đ€©
Thanks so much for watching Lien đ
YesSiRr!! Bloody ouaFF!! Lol!! 100%đđđ& suBB! Gotta support the Locals!! Haha! Mate that was very interesting, informative and very entertaining! Awesome stuff! Love it when CZcams gets it right wit the Recommendations. Look forward to More adventures... Thanks for sharing Big Fella.. Stay Bless and Stay Safe out there!!
Thanks so much for watching brother!
This is gods own work- highlighting sick joints around our local neighbourhoods.
What it's all about at the end of the day đ
Absolutely 100% on point with all those shops .....as a kid, my mum would always visit red lea and get the chips with paprika and chicken salt , then the pork roll with extra butter and pate by the shop up the top of the street. Even 1am visits to that pork roll shop were common for me and mates.....god damn lol
All the locals know the go!
Cabramatta used to be the scariest place in Sydney late 1999. Now i can see so much safer good job my asian brother
Thanks bro đ I'm proud to have grown up alongside Cabra. It's much different now to what it was when I was a child apparently!
And to believe their were gangster there
My goodness cabra was always my hang out place and will always go there for food lol..thanks for the video. Cabra has changed big time.
Glad I showed you some good mems đ
After watching your video I *finally* went to Cabramatta for the 1st time (embarrassingly after living in Sydney for 24 years had never been before) - the Pandian & Coconut waffles are awesome! Tried quite a number of different dishes at several places - I shouldnât have gone on a Friday evening though, and many of the âstreet foodâ style stalls were already closing and the Bahn Mi place with the Crispy Pork had already run out of roast pork. Thanks for the recommendations!
Wow! So awesome. Thanks so much for heading out to Cabramatta and giving some a try. Hopefully you'll find more great food in Cabra once you go again Ian!
@@SydneyFoodBoy What would your recommendation for day/time be for most food options in Cabramatta? I think my choice of Friday evening was not the best, many places were closing down.
@@SydneyFoodBoy Can i suggest a Strathfield Food Tour if youâre looking for new vid suggestions! âButchers Buffetâ all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ is one of my favourites, and âMrHotDogâ right next door too.
Another idea would be Ashfield: Pork Moon Cakes from âNew Shanghai Workshopâ, Ramen from âKujiraâ and Pork Chop Burger and dumplings/buns from âQW HuaXing Bakeryâ (all on Liverpool Rd within 200m of each other) are some of my favourites.
Any weekday lunch should be ok! Weekend lunch it's packed
I grew up living around Cabramatta and just recently moved to North Sydney. If I were to buy everything shown in this video from where I'm living now, it'll cost me roughly $40-$50. Gosh, I miss living around Cabramatta.
Not a bad place to live though! The views must be nicer where you're at! Everyone who grew up in Cabra knows the go though đ
Recently discovered your channel, Kevin. Love it, and good on you for appreciating your cultural heritage. 7:00 Brains, brawn, beauty AND bao. Doesn't get any better :-)
Not sure what brains, beauty and brawn you're seeing but there's definitely a delicious bao đ thanks so much for watching!
First video we saw of yours! Noted down all the places and hit each of them! Eating so much is so hard but worth it!!
Thank you for keeping up with the channel Amy, hope you had a great food adventure!
Early 90âs I Loved number 37 noodle dish Hokkien me with chilli paste chilli. Just noodles chicken and bulk chow. Yum o. And that chilli was sooo good. In the food hall. And the ietnamese rolls around the corner.
Oh mate that sounds incredible. What a memory! Are the restaurants the same?
Yum yum yum. I worked in Cabramatta and would program my day around my meals đ đ . Best food! â€
Thanks for this featurette, as some of these places in Cabramatta are the places Iâve been missing out on asides from the rest. đ
Thanks for watching! Hope you get out there and try them đ
Thanks for such a great video!! Cabramatta is my station I get off at to come home. Definitely has amazing food there. More places to try now!!
The Hot bread place does the best rolls!!
Yess! This videos for my locals, we live in a beautiful place đ
I went to Cabramatta today and tried a few of your recommendations. đ The place is so vibrant. If not for your videos I wouldn't have known they were there.
BTW already planning another trip out there again next week... couldn't fit all your recommendations in one day.
Thank you for watching Bing! So glad you enjoyed Cabramatta đđđ
Brooo solid work in front and behind the camera, hope you keep making more vids like this
Thanks bro! Cameraman is a king. I'll try, no promises đ
Omg so nostalgic! Used to live in Canberra and drive up to Sydney all the time. I remember the chicken chips and chips from that chicken store. So delicious. I also remember we used to get mee ka tang kreung somot from a restaurant somewhere in Cabramatta but when we went back a while ago it was closed down :( Great video though, will definitely hit these spots whenever Iâm back in Sydney!
If you ever find that Mee again, let me know!
Such a well made video! Love Cabramatta đ
Thanks Nina! All credits go to Brian for the videography honestly, couldn't have done it without him!
Red Lea chicken Ă Chips is the đŁ Bro...NICE vlog!
Love those foil bags they ya,make it more special ..teenage memories
Gaginang rep!!
Gotta take all of us to Tuong Lai for their com tam đ€đ€đ€
Gaginang! And yes soon đ
Gaginang for the win !!
Loved the video! My Mrs is Thai and we always hit up the first Thai/Lao place for papaya salad (spicy!). Thereâs also a great place in the plaza for Thai sweets; sticky rice, custard etc. Side note: the avocado shakes in Cabra and amazing
Would def have thrown in an avocado shake If budget permitted đ and yeah I know the place! Awesome Thai lao food there inside
Yes bro
Cabramatta no 1
đâ€đ
Love the food
Going to check this all out some time. Thanks for sharing Kevin!
Thanks for watching Tony! If you do try them all out for yourself some time, let me know which one is your favourite affordable eat đ
Singaporean Hainanese fella coming across your vlog! Oh and I speak Teochew because that's my Mom's dialect group (can't speak Hainanese though). Love the wide variety of food featured here. Subscribed to your channel instantly! Hope to visit Sydney after the pandemic!
Hello! Thanks for subbing. I have family in Singapore, i've always thought of living there short term. I did a big food trip there in 2019 and it was the inspiration for my blogging and vlogging đ
@@SydneyFoodBoy awesome that you got inspired by the cuisine here in Singapore! Do drop by again!
Im going to Cabra this afternoon after seeing this lol
Great video bro. Subscribed!!
Thank you so much Eden !
I remember always like to eat Chicken rolls bread at the bread store outside Woolworths and near Cabramatta Station. Suddenly see your channels and really miss the days I studied there. Hope after covid I can visits Cabra again to get back my 2 years time there.
Come again soon bro đ
Love Cabramatta. My go to place.
Proud to live here!
I'm Polynesian so taro is always savoury for us. Love this video and love Cabra, this has given me new spots to try
Was thinking about all my Polynesians and Hawaiians out there when I asked that question! I remember eating heaps of traditional taro dishes when I was visiting my family in Hawaii
@@SydneyFoodBoy well if you wanna do a Polynesian food video haha. Please check out Mamas poly soulfood - in Minto across from the train station, and also Heckenberg has some poly street food they sell also the owners of Mama Phan own a shop in heckenberg that specialise in Polynesian food - also check out Lakemba - for Tongan and cook island food and lastly - Palms pacific shop - either in bidwill or glenquarie. And chakas bbq.
Oh hell yeah, definitely checking all of those out. What food do you recommend buying?
@@SydneyFoodBoy you can try Sapasui - chopsuey, Keke puaa - pork buns like the chinese pork buns, luau & & taro & oka. i also forgot to mention a fijian restaraunt called Island Feast - in warwick farm - that specialises in traditional underground cooking = Umu - fijian style.
Mamas poly soulfood - is home to lots of these things if your interested in trying whatever - as well as pies & famous donuts.
Noted. I've been so keen to try that stuff in Sydney but had no idea where! Thanks for the tips đ I'll probably do some writing about it on Instagram before I do a CZcams video about it!
Ahh the best trio: sugarcane juice, red Lea chips and pandan waffle. Didnât know stuff was still under $1 these days, wow.
Would easily pay double the price for them. A great reminder to get out there and support your locals!
My favourite meal in Cabra is salad(with egg/chilli) roll from Vinata's!!
Vinata's does great bread too!
@@SydneyFoodBoy yes, I like their bread. Cabra definitely has a lot to offer!!
Would love it if you could go through the best places to eat in each of the different suburbs on a budget. Im from Newcastle and will definitely go and get those egg tarts . Thanks heaps!
Will be a lot of work but I'll get there one day đ would love to
Thank you.. . This is so informative. The food is definitely cheaper at Cabrammata.
I ll look for the spots you recommended.
Thank you to Bryan too
How amazing is Brian! Thanks heaps for watching đ
Went there on Christmas day 2008 was definitely the place to be so much food on offer in a small place compared to the rest of Sydney being closed
Love ya cabbie
Cabra is beautiful isn't it!
Hi Kev, not sure if you remember me but I enjoy watching your videos and seeing your adventures on insta. Keep it up âșïž
Hey Joanne! Of course I do. Hope you're doing well đ thanks for watching!
I almost stopped watching the vid - it was torture to see all that great food and I live in Shellharbour Village - very beige food. I wonder how far Pyrmont is to Cabramatta - I am moving at some point. Even China Town in the Haymarket has gone south. Thank God for all this rich tapestry of culture and food that has come to Australia
You're always one of my favourite commenters Hailey đ some of the food joints at the Gong do pretty well!
Just down the train line pyrmont... 46 mins tops
About an hour by train. Light rail to central. Then train to Cabramatta station.
Loved the video Kevin!! Keep up the amazing work đđđ
Thank you so much Heidi!
Oh lordy, Red Lea chips + maximum amount of the red salt was such a tradition after school. They also fry the chips to an extreme crisp which I really love.
LOL yes the high school tradition. We grew up the Same way đ
Red leas chips and their red seasoning salt and the chicken ribs is a must!!!!!...but Love your vlogs!!đ€€đâ€ïž
Part 2 got released today đđ
Rea Lea chips with the Sweet Paprika and chicken salt combo still canât be beat!!!
100%! I have no idea if the red powder is paprika LOL I've just always called it that đ
@@SydneyFoodBoy I actually asked my local Red Lea in Rouse hill what it was a few years back. đ
@@djlorman LOL!

Enjoy Sureyya!

Good vid buddy...I visited Cabramatta from Mel the weekend before last. I literally went to most of the places you went to in this vid. Everything is so cheap compared to Mel.
Thanks mate! Which ones didn't you try?
@@SydneyFoodBoy The dumpling one and the first shop. Didn't realise they did the fried banana and beef jerky, so will definitely hit that shop try next time I'm in Sydney!
@@ohappydays667 I always sit down and eat a meal when I have the chance at the lao shop! Sticky rice, paw paw salad, dried beef slaps bro!
@@SydneyFoodBoy Will def give it a shot next time round for sure! Started watching your other vids too. Good recommendations around Sydney. My friend in Sydney sucks with his recommendations last time I was there! I'll start using you as my Sydney food guide from now on! LOL
Man knows what he's talking about. 100% agree that is the best pork roll shop around. Red lea chips guaranteed. Don't forget the Pate Chaud from AA Bakery too bro.
Bonus points for the teo chow Gu Gai Kueh!
Thanks heaps for watching bro! Oh man the pate chaud, I was deciding whether to get that or the banh bao for the video LOL
Ahhhhh viet hoa - they are the reason for the late night trips to cabra just for pork rolls. haha thanks for feeding us VIET HOA.
đđ
First video where I can say I've had 90% of everything and agree they're the best, only thing is the veggie buns and the pork roll place I haven't tried.
Actually was going to try some veggie buns last week but had do dee lava noodles next door and killed my taste buds đ đ„”.
Im bias for vinata's hot bread in cabramatta and bonnyrigg because they're my aunties haha.
I do like Vinata's too! Their banh mi is solid

Hey champion, love your stuff. Would be nice to see you hit the fringes of Cabra as well. Canley Vale has always had some great little joints and Canley Heights has kicked off since they added the automatic dunny and cameras. Hey Guy! Im actually from Canley so definitely on the agenda one day mate đđ thanks heaps!
Good old time gone đ€
I always have the basil and sprouts with some actual chilli, then sa te on the side and hoisin with chilli sauce. Always get the special pho. I have come to love tendon. I went to one place and the tendon was so soft it melted! Mmmmm
