  • Today we will be testing a $45 candy kit that says it would teach us the science behind candy-making. Is this craft kit worth it? Let's unbox and review to see if this homemade diy gummy and candy kit is worth it so that you don't waste your monies! I got this kit from Amazon, but recently it was much cheaper from ToysRus.

Maybe you can try to recreate a crafting kit as cheap as possible. Meaning you go to a dollar store and try to find all stuff in the kit. Than do the activity and compare them (how it works, the effort, the amount of things you can make and the price) would love to see than!

So I researched it and the water in the community pipes is safe in most places. The issue comes to pipes in your house and sediment builds up in your hot water tank. People are supposed to drain the hot water tank regularly to clear out that sediment but almost no one does that. The result is consuming some of that gunk. If you live in a newer house with no lead pipes and you clean your hot water tank the water is safe.

The reason I was told to avoid drinking hot tap water was due to the possible bacteria/algae growth in sitting water. The heater doesn't get hot enough to boil water and kill germs and unless you have a busy household running lots of hot water constantly the combination of warm and stagnant water can mimic a human body and is perfect for breeding germs.

Reminds me of my brothers dog. He's got an iron stomach and will eat almost anything...except ginger. I tried to give it to him from my sushi order once, and he literally spat it out. One of the funniest things I've ever seen a dog do. Sniffed, took it in his mouth, then promptly spat it out onto the floor, "Why auntie? Why would you feed me that trash??"

Yes straight up tap water is generally fine, but when your hot water heater heats it up and pumps it through the house it can leech from the pipes. THAT is the issue she warned about. Not taking tap water straight up to drink or taking tap water and heating it over a stove/in a kettle/etc. Just hot water straight from the tap is considered unsafe.

Also, add your colorant and flavor after removing the sugar from the heat and absolutely do not touch the hot sugar mixture! Just fill the pot with a little water, cover, and simmer to dissolve all the hardened bits of sugar gunk.
