While I don't think Lee Conner's lyrics were nearly as bad as Lanegan seemed to think, there's no question that even in Lanegan's infancy as an original songwriter, he blew Lee out of the water in terms of the sheer magnitude and memorable nature of his lyrics. Whiskey for the Holy Ghost was his attempt at a "masterpiece" record, and had Lanegan died in 1997 instead of going to rehab for the first time, that's likely what it would be viewed as today. Fortunately he lived another 25 great years and we got Bubblegum, Blues Funeral, Gargoyle and Somebody's Knocking. All of which I'd call masterpieces.
"You know, those things will kill you" Lanegan, after likely having done his morning shot plus another before this interview: "....been Told that." Also, Mike Johnson looks like he's about sick of sitting next to Lanegan. Those two had Many falling outs.

120 minutes was EVERYTHING. Man, those were the days. I only remember it from the MTV2 days at the tail end, but it introduced me to so much incredible music. I’m so grateful for MTV, MTV2, SPIN magazine, and the little record store in my hometown that I used to skip middle school to hang out at. Who knows what garbage I might be listening to if not for these influences.

Mark Lanegan is one of the true geniuses of the Seattle sound. A very unique individual. Gosh, this interviewer is trying so hard to be creative and sometimes he's REALLY reaching. Mark doesn't seem offended, but there are a few moments here where he's basically rolling his eyes.lol

My dad (born in 1949) who lived through the musical revolutions in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s, and beyond has frequently said to me for the last 30 years how he sometimes wishes he was my age (born 1975) so he could’ve been coming of age in the 90s…he just says that though he went through some of the most historically significant times in music and cultural history the 90s just seems to be different. You weren’t wrong dad…you damn sure weren’t wrong!!
Was this before or after Kurt and Kristen died? Because if this was only shortly after, it would definitely explain his passiveness. I know from his book that he never enjoyed doing promotional work though. Watching this now, this Largent guy reminds me of an annoying boss, putting people on the spot with annoying almost insulting questions and interrupting while obtaining the answer...+ the part with the hair in the face and the "you know those things will kill ya" lol! Amazing álbum but BORRACHO song OMG, fucking love it since then.
