'Russia is your banker!' Macron tells Le Pen during feisty France election debate

  • France election: Macron sensationally accused his election rival of being 'in the grip of Russia' and using the country as 'her banker'. Preisdent Macron claimed the far-right Le Pen, 53, was unfit to replace him because she was still paying money back to Moscow during the Ukraine War. The centrist president then rounded on Le Pen: 'You are in fact in Russia's grip. You took out a loan from the First Czech-Russian Bank in 2014, working with people who were directly involved in the war in Syria.'

Le Pen didn't argue it wasn't true..just talked about being a patriot. I don't think that was the question.

I watched the entire debate. She argued against Macron in the context he framed her in. She tried to get a loan from a French bank but was turned down. At the time, it was difficult to get a loan from any bank except with a Russian bank. Macron also bullied her and accused her of not paying for the loan. She corrected him and said that she is up to date on her installment payments. But why so much emphasis on one decision? Is this not petty and assigning intention with little to go on? Would you want to be labeled based upon one action?

@@nancyboyette3748 you sure can’t be labeled by any action, but that specific one is a big one. Someone that lies one time is not a liar, but if you kill someone, then you are a killer, the thing is that now Russia is the enemy, and the country can’t have a conflict of interests

Bernard Arnault (became the richest man in the world in 2020 before falling again), Xaveir Niel are billionaires backing macron and they're french. Even the other racist Zemmour, was backed by a french billionaire, Vincent Bolloré. I don,t understand those ''nationalists'' in Europe who work for Putin, very strange. Also, the Rothschild living in France are french and they don,t have the power they used to.

"It's all there, it's all waiting. Of course it can be done; it depends upon ourselves.
You say: "But again, we're scattered individuals. Everything's against us. Governments, money, press, television - all the new forces are used against us." All the great forces, all the material powers of the world, you say, are against you. And so they are - you're quite right to feel that.
And I don't underrate them, but I don't despair and you shouldn't despair. Because you, like I, have read something of history. You know something of the record of the achievement of Europeans. And dark as this hour is, it's no darker, it's not as dark as some of the hours you've known in European history.
When everything was cowardice, treachery, and betrayal. Small bands of men in resolution, in absolute determination, giving themselves completely and saying "Europe shall live!" And they stood firm and faced the menace to Europe: its values, its civilizations, the glory of its achievement - all those things in mortal danger. And they stood firm, they faced it, they came together, and more and more ran it to their standards, and those hordes were thrown back. Again and again and again, our Europe lived in triumph because the will of Europe still endured!
We've got other forces against us - not those particular forces, but the power of money, the power of press. All those things are against us. And how can you stop it? My friends, by an act of will, an act of the European will.
My friends, today, just as much as in the past, we can meet the dark forces which in another way threaten our European life with eternal night. We can rally those forces, and in the end, we can prevail and we can triumph!"

Regarding the Russian loan, why didn’t anyone recite what Le Pen said in defense of her decision. She told Macron that he shut down the French banks and that is why she had to go to a Russian bank to get a loan. Macron bullied her and said that she had not paid for that loan but Le Pen pushed back and said she was up to date on making her monthly payments.

@@oneofmany1804 I think you are being petty and making much to do about nothing. You are assigning intention with hardly any evidence.
During that time period, it was difficult for anyone to get a loan. But regardless, why are you putting so much weight on this one decision? In a trial, one single fact wouldn’t persuade a judge or a jury against a defendant. Have you considered that the media has over advertised this for the purpose of creating doubt and discrediting her? If she had a strong relationship with Putin, don’t you think the press would be reporting mass meetings, transactions and so forth?
