How did it lose its independence in the first place? It all happened back in the 1970’s during a war known as the Rectan Conflict.

This would be the perfect setting for Ace 8 since so many people want a cold-war era Ace Combat, but at the same time it probably won't have the east vs west feel that you'd want from a Cold war style game, and we need another enemy other than Belka, unless you play as Belka in it.
Also I thought the Belkan air forcw was the greatest on Earth. How did they get beaten by Recta so early?
I thought the same thing about Belka’s Air Force but Old Recta seemed to be a whole other animal. Until Silber showed up.
They got beaten by Recta because Recta used J 35 Drakens.

I litterally just defeated silber team in my first playthrough of belkan war, and read Kellerman's bio. Thanks for providing the additional lore.
It is a little wrong though. The Recta Conflict wasn't an invasion it was a rebellion since Recta was already a part of Belka before that point. That is why a militant group was acting as the military instead of an actual state Military.

I find it funny that Namco Bandai or Bandai Namco (Project Aces) never included the Rectan Conflict thinking: "The player doesn't need to know about a short backstory of Belka of conquering a weaken country. Let's just give em a short story of lossing economic power and the countries who emerged from the annexation. From there, show the player a Nazi Germany style antagonist who started to invade everyone in the region. The name of this conflict you ask? It's not a World War for sure. We call it: The Belkan War."
😐 So much lore behind the scenes that are all left out. In my opinion, a good amount of lore helps to make a game and it's story more intriguing. Explore so much history in the game while you play. Learn the characters and their bio. Form a fandom for that particular character, place, or in this case an aircraft. It's almost like reading a good book or a manga. It needs a good amount of lore and flavor to go back to again and again.

Dietrich Kellerman's status as pilot was assumed to be retired before the Belkan War. In 1990, he would soon join the Belkan Air Force Academy as its instructor for a special course called the 9th Academy Special Process, otherwise known as the "Kellerman Institution." He was not just instructor for the next-generation Silber Squadron pilots, but to a few well-known who would become ace pilots. These Belkan pilots who graduated from his Institution were:

Hey Solutus, if Recta’s small Air Force was really skilled it means they could’ve received training from some nation, maybe a certain Osea? Think of it because the Osean Federation always wanted influence in the area, so this why they funded Ustio’s secessionist movement, so they could’ve funded and created the RLF or the Rectan Liberation Front considering Recta possibly didn’t have any standing military and only the militia force of the RLF.

Hi Arik! Just wanted to share my reason why I gave them F-5s instead of F 16s. With the Rectan Conflict, there is very little information from Project Aces about who flew which plane. For now we can only speculate. I wanted to showcase planes that were in service during the time period which is why I gave the rest of Silber Team F 5’s instead of the F 16. Now that isn’t confirmed by Project Aces but I theorized that just like our reality the F 16 was not in service during the early 1970s. The F 5s were at the time.

@@SolutusEversol That is in our world. In Strangereal it is very different. They developed and deployed fighters much earlier than we ever did. In 1995 they already had several 5th generation fighters in production and just a few years later they were already creating COFFIN tech to be used on certain fighters.

The Rectan Conflict happened 25 years before the Belkan War started in 1995. Cipher would have either been an infant or not born yet during the 1970’s. I believe the Rectan Conflict was mentioned in Kellerman’s summary in the assault records in Ace Combat Zero. Hope this helps.
