Here is the first video from our trip the to NE Coast! Kicking it off with a Short-fin Mako Catch Clean Cook. This was seriously top 3 best tasting fish of all time. Big thanks to Joe and Erick Faust for the amazing trip! We were fishing offshore near the New York Coast. These are highly migratory predators and the fastest sharks on earth!

Hey! It’s nice to see you here :)
That and threshers

Agreed
Great whites also
The mako shark, both shortfin and longfin, are listed as globally endangered on the IUCN Red List due to their being heavily targeted for their fins. Their slow growth, late maturity and lengthy gestation period has put them at huge risk of overfishing.
If it's legal there then it isn't too endangered where they fish.
@@warnerperry3789 you’d think so but sadly you are very wrong.
Na man you are wrong. I just checked the shortfin mako shark population where they're at and looked at 4 different reports and they all seem to show them as well as other sharks thriving in the area. Now other places in the world they are being over fished but not in this particular area
Also the World Record was caught not far from there in New Jersey in recent times so they are not in too much trouble.
@@warnerperry3789 Just because they are thriving in one area, doesn't mean they are thriving in others. It just may mean that you can find many in that particular spot. They are still considered endangered by the IUCN.
We had a 8 foot mako come alive in the boat. We had gilled it and were starting to gut it when it woke up and went crazy. They’re amazing fish
That guy watches "Cavy" if you heard him you know what I'm talking about. Yeeewwww
Cavy has infected the entire fishing world with that!

I really like your show, you turned me on to Fin Fetish which I’m booking a trip with to get on those Tuna. The more I watch your channel the more I like it.
Please give more close up shots and details about how you rig for the fish your catching. You do it some times but not always. I’m getting introduced to salt water fishing here on California and I’m trying to learn as much as possible. So these details help.
Keep producing your doing a great job!!
Give Brookie a nice treat for all her hard work filming! That is definitely a workout on the arms!
Land shark couldn’t stop smiling after the catch 😁😁
Great show. Catch mako on west coast all the time. Next to blue fin my favorite. My advice to keep the fish from sticking as much. After you glaze and before putting on grill spray fish with oil and spray before turning.
I love port Jefferson! October is the my favorite time of the year to fish there- I think you’re in for a great time.
Well done, you have captured a specimen of a species at risk of extinction!
Great video Vic. That really made me hungry. Awesome fish awesome catch yes sir. God bless bro.
I haven't been on YT so much lately, as most of the voices I prefer to listen to are no longer welcomed. But there is the fishing part of me that keeps me coming back here. There are only a few of you guys I like to watch. Just know that things will turn for the better very soon. God told us how this thing will shake out, and we are witnessing it happen in real time. Just wait and just watch it happen. Nice catch, and feed.
Vik - "I'm going to gut this shark off camera"
CZcams - "I am not going to stand here and see that thing cut open, and see that little Kintner boy spill out all over the dock!"
This is not the time - or the place - to perform some kind of a half-assed autopsy on a fish.
Love jaws
Hooked and lost one that big this afternoon while fishing from my kayak north of Jacksonville, FL. Wasn't fishing for sharks but was using a 30lb test nylon coated steel leader because I usually run into them. The thing took off for the next time zone, made one high leap into the air (that's when I got a real good look at it) and severed that leader. After watching you handle this fish, it is no doubt a good thing that I lost it. Released a fair sized bull shark later today. It was pretty docile in comparison.
Oh man...i realy hope one of its friends will visit you when you going to swim...
Love the videos but man makos are endangered mate, you said it yourself on video “you don’t see makos a lot”. I hate sounding like some preachy animal dude because I’m all for eating shark if it’s not endangered. At least you guys are eating it all and not constantly catching these guys to eat. Catch and release like you normally do, we need more sharks lol
wouldnt they make it illegal if it was that important? is it long fin or short fin or both thats endangered? in the usa they are serious about fishing and keeping out fisheries healthy..i think they number they have, the limit is set up to be non a danger to their numbers... so yeah idk
Maybe not down south but we get alot in new york and are fishery aint to bad it would deff be regulated too
Great whites are also very near to becoming endangered since they are killed so often for “cancer research”... they are caught for shark fin soup
@Lauren Benoit Exactly. The same people on here supporting this type of shit will be the ones crying on the internet when sharks are added to the species that went extinct in our lifetime videos. I am by no means a hardcore animal rights activist but catching and eating sharks is asinine. Especially when there are way more prolific game fish that aren’t close to becoming endangered. Humanity ruins everything it touches.

Great catch I enjoy any type of fishing love that shark catch and as always i do enjoy your recipes I do use there use to be a West Indian restaurant on Oakland park west I use to but shark every Saturday man I’m loving this recipe 🇧🇸
I don't even fish, but I'm hooked. Heading to Florida in a few months and definitely want to try something like this. Absolutely incredible.
You, Blue Gabe, and Deer Meat are my most-fav CZcamsrs. Keep 'em coming!
Nice catch .looked delicious shout out to you and the Faust family. Coming from another Foust cheers👍
Great show. That mako meat looks delicious! Great job!
Solid hook set, that fish wasn't going anywhere.
For shark, I think the best rig is 3' of piano wire to 12' of cable. Even if the fish swallows the hook deep, your cable won't get frayed from those razor sharp teeth. You can always have another wire section ready to put it onto the swivel quickly.
Yeahh buddy! so stoked we were able to get the right one! lets do it again brotha!!

Your such a chilled guy, love your vids man...your presentation in meals is just awesome keep it up 👍
So happy for these two guys. Two of the best fisherman on Long Island hands down 🤙🏻
Awesome group photo with the Mako!!!
Looks like a summers eve conversation!
Good to see you fishing, butchering, cooking and eating the shark as well as preserving the jaws. That attitude is what makes a good fisherman and a good hunter. Well done. 🍻
Gotta admit ive been fiending to see the new content from New England/ New York. Awesome video Viktor.
Nice catch, enjoy the big fish.
Vic, you have absolutely no idea how much I miss eating mako. I've had it 4 times, each time cooked by yours truly. Unfortunately it's been ages since I last had it - matter of fact, you probably weren't born yet last time I had it. Enjoy it for both of us, my friend! Bottoms up!
@Kate Mckay Take your uninformed tripe elsewhere. Yes, makos are endangered, but your grossly wrong when you say all sharks are. But being endangered doesn't mean that local populations may not be numerous enough to allow a limited take of them. For instance, African Elephants are considered Vulnerable - however, populations in some areas are too numerous areas and destroying their own environment (and for other animals) and therefore some countries allow very limited hunting of elephants to control locally dense populations.
@Kate Mckay In addition, back when I had eaten mako, they weren't listed as endangered at that time.
@Kate Mckay The big danger to makos and other sharks are not the recreational fishers, but the longliners from Asia that not only overfish, but usually just "fin" the sharks and throw the rest back. Most recreational hunters/anglers are very much into conservation and don't want to see their recreation ruined by overfishing - and much of the monies paid for licenses/taxes on equipment goes back into conservation.
Loved the video Vik. Hadnt seen a video in awhile and was getting worried someone might have gotten sick. So glad to see you're all well. Hey , Brookie....
Keep making Long Island content
The guy in the blue jacket has the nordic bindrune vegivsir (the icelandic word for Wayfinder) on his coat
Some crazy animal's, imagine that being your end haha nuts
I hooked a mako on a spinning rod off cape cod this summer while fishing for tuna. Crazy fight! Jumped 5 feet out of the water and spit the hook!!
Jaken9438 I bet that was awesome seeing that shark jump out of the water like that! I would love to be able to watch it live in person someday! 😊
Love hearing about the anatomy of the mako
Your cooking abilities are top shelf. Jc
such a rare fish to catch!!! good job guys!
Can you honestly not see the issue with catching a “rare fish”?
They're rare because they are endangered

Wow a big shark! Wonderful job!
That is a juvenile,adults get to 10 feet,this one was 7 feet
That baby bluefin had amazing patterns!
Right? Wow... never ceases to amaze me, still to this day how amazing, and beautiful some fish can be... I remember being blown away as a kid with my brothers, and father... and it still amazes me.

My buddy and I caught a 9 foot mako this week while fishing in Miami. Absolutely nuts and terrifying

Nice fish guys! What an experience.
Absolutely AMAZING guys!!! I am a great enthusiast of your channel! It keeps me company all the time. Reminds me of some of my fishing experiences in San Diego! I caught some really nice fish too, but nothing compares with the size and quality of the fish we see you catching on your channel. With my greatest respect and admiration, I bow my head to all of you guys. You are simply AMAZING. I also love the fact that you are showing some great recipes in each case, taking away the guesswork on how to prepare the fish ! Thanks for a job well done, and for providing such a great informative, educational, and fun channel!!!
Nice one. Don't keep much shark but the only fish that sharpens and dulls your knife at the same time lol
That meal looks amazing chef TommyT
I've always strongly felt that the mako is somehow related to the swordfish , look at the meat , eyes and tail .
That's convergent evolution for you. They're not closely related by any means.
Makos are so overfished it’s not even funny
:)
Don’t they have a ton of mercury in them too? What’s the point of eating them if it can potentially harm you?
@@nathanacuna7535 mako aka sword fish lol
That is why you can only keep one per vessel, I believe
@@nathanacuna7535 yes, mackerel sharks like mako sharks, great white sharks, salmon sharks have a ton of mercury
Nice to see you getting out and about to see fishing in other place hope you get to do lots of different thing to do in that area enjoy good vid and good food oh good luck
Good job bruh that's a Nice Mako,I caught a 228 pound Mako way out in the Canyons off of Brielle, NJ. One of the best tasting sea creatures like you said compare it to Swordfish at 15 to 20 bucks a pound.mine was almost 20 years ago watching you catch and fillet your's has me wanting to go out again, keep up the great work and tight lines and calm sea's!!! Oh by the way I hope you kept the jaws had mine sitting in bleach for a week (getting the little cartilage off)then sprayed it still have all these years later.
One thing is to catch a fish, but the beauty is sitting down with family and friends. Sharing the catch. Well done guys. God bless you all.
Could you plz show the gutting process, I like to see every step you do with the fish
They would get demonized.
Welcome back to New England!!!
Have eaten Tiger Shark grilled, but it marinated in the fridge 24 hours first. Did not resemble your dish. The tail really resembles a swordfish...enjoyed the video, thanks guys.
Hey landshark your probably not going to see this but I would love to see a Blue runner vs Blue fish.Could you please do a taste test comparison

Great video ...So cool those makos. I was watching him cut that bait with the knife toward his hand. Wow, that is one way to slice your hand real deep .Rookie mistake, lol.
Years ago while at the New Jersey Aquarium I saw one there and couldn't identify it but in recognizing the pattern of its tooth growth I now know that was unique to that type of Shark...
Makos arent able to be kept in captivity

Makos are just a more evolved great white, now they're just evolving to get as big as a great white and imagine that 👌

awesome had a mako a couple years ago in san diego come up to the boat actually poked its head up between the out boards. hooked it a couple feet off the boat and in less than 30 seconds ran about 75 yards off the back of the boat. put up one hell of a fight. not bragging or comparing it was about 129 130 pound shark pound for pound these animals have to be one of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean

Hey Victor and Brooke, Glad to see you were up in my neck of the woods, the Tri-State-Area. Long Island eh?? Was that boat pulling out of Montauk? At the shark grounds miles off the south shore of Long Island? Only been Mako fishing once and that was at Montauk. Lots of Blue sharks and after a while it was exhausting just winding and winding to get each one in. No bites on the live bluefish but we gave it a go. Love Mako!! Just as good as Swordfish. Your recipe did the Mako an honor. A real out of the park feast.. I would say one of your best shows yet, even though it's 1.5 years ago. Regards, Gerry in Ponte Vedra Beach. PS, Post a photo of the Mako Jaws. Damn teeth were frightening.
The way he just torpedoed that fish back in the water 😂
In March 2019, NOAA Fisheries has increased the recreational minimum size limit for shortfin mako shark caught in federal waters (3 - 200 miles offshore) to 71 inches (fork length) for male sharks, and 83 inches (fork length) for female sharks.
how long was this one? 68 inches?
And now you can’t keep any.
@@scottessery100 they didn't say i think
Most likely a short (even when it was a 71 in minimum) ive caught at least 20 makos in my life and I released a 72 inch female a couple years ago and this fish was significantly smaller
dont need to kill them anyway. the mercury is so high in them even one steak is ding great harm to your brain and worse in kids.
This is cool until you realise Mako's are listed as endangered in some parts of the world and soon becoming a protected species due to overfishing. A Mako like that would have been a mature aged breeding Mako and important to the maintaining the population... I'm honestly heart broken. There's something deeply disturbing about overfishing sharks, especially Mako's, being the fastest shark in the world and as beautiful as they are; it will be deeply saddening if we had to see them go.
So true what idiot fu land shore. Love the attitude man!,!
so recreational fisherman from the usa are over fishing mako sharks? seems crazy.....not enough people go out and catch makos and keep them... you must be talking about another part of the world..unless im wrong, show me
how old are you? and are you talking about the short fin mako or long fin mako?
