Great reporting Thank you..its hard to find any global sailing news in AU ..I appreciate you
Thanks Roslyn :)
The Women's America's Cup sounds interesting with the all-electric boats. Didn't know about this before.
Absolutely! And this could indicate the future of the "men's Americas Cup". Grinders may become a thing of the past
as a Kiwi will be disappointed if not in NZ but handicapping the team through lack of funds would be a mistake, seems Dunphy is a carpetbagger
note Emirates Airline is in the UEA(United Arab Emirates) not Saudi, based in Garhoud, Dubai
I’m a kiwi and a lifetime fan of team nz. But if they don’t show their fans the same loyalty (yes that is a reference to the “call me loyal” campaign) that has been fierce here in Nz since the beginning, then what is the point? Could become very lonely for them at the top
Thank God for the offer by Dunphy, ETNZ has nothing else on the table.
Will be interesting to see what comes of that. Could be the primary reason behind the delay
@@FastForwardSailing Cork, despite having had 10 months to propose a solid offer, could not. There is far too little support behind it, the politicians have much bigger things to worry about. The biggest factor in Auckland's favor is they already have all the infrastructure built out for it.
Fact check. Emirates Airline is owned by the Dubai government, not Saudi Arabia so no link to hosting it there.
Good luck to etnz of getting public funding again if they take it off shore!!!
Yeah, could be a tactical error in the long run
1995 A3 team was all women sailors… until it wasn’t.
Cheers Tom, didn't know that. Just been reading up on it.
"America3's successor, Mighty Mary, was on her way to the 1995 America's Cup, in the lead of the last race of the Defender Series over Stars & Stripes. But with a commanding lead of nearly 5 minutes, Dave Dellenbaugh (the only man on the otherwise all-female crew) committed a crucial tactical error and Stars & Stripes skipper Dennis Conner made a series of moves to beat Mighty Mary to the finish line by scant seconds. After winning the Defender Series, Conner opted to use the boat of the third syndicate that year, Young America, to defend the cup, losing to Team New Zealand, 5-0."
Fact check. Emirates Airline is owned by the Dubai government, not Saudi Arabia so no link to hosting it there.
You are quite right. I get mixed up between those two.
It’s all very disappointing for most kiwis. If you want to host it you should put up and win it. Buying it devalues it.
There are some countries though who don't realistically have a chance of winning it- Saudi/ Ireland/ Singapore. Might be good for the Cup fan base to host it in Asia as I don't see an Asian team winning any time soon
@@FastForwardSailing I know this is hard to believe but NZ realistically shouldn’t have won it also. Tiny population, geographically challenged, small budget and always having best people bought up by wealthy syndicates. But that’s our lot and we don’t moan our ask for a handout. We strive to improve and make the most of what we have. That’s what makes hosting it important. Selling it off after introducing nationality clauses smacks of double standards.
Who cares?
