  • KOTA BHARU is a town located in Kelantan, in the northeastern part of Malaysia (close to the Thai border). Best known for its rich cultural heritage, it can also be a foodie haven.
    How to get there:
From Kuala Lumpur, you can fly directly to Kota Bharu, or take a coach from major bus stations, or take the train (Kuala Lumpur - Gemas - Wakaf Bharu).
    How to get around:
There are public buses, taxis, and trishaws, but to me, the easiest way is by Grab, as you also get to know the fare beforehand, thereby reducing the risk of getting ripped off.
Where to stay in Kota Bharu:
We stayed at ASLAH BOUTIQUE HOTEL right in the city center, close to all the major attractions.
Click here to BOOK NOW: booking.tp.st/BTnnNuSR
What and where we ate in Kota Bharu:
    - Nasi Ulam Cikgu: rice with lots of different types of side dishes and ulam (raw vegetables).
    - Yati Ayam Percik: nasi kerabu (blue-colored rice served with shredded coconut salad, salted egg, stuffed chili, anchovy sauce and fish crackers), ayam percik (roasted chicken with coconut-based gravy), and roast beef.
    - Butter & Cream Kopitiam: halal nyonya food.
    - Sate Baung: chicken and beef satay.
    - Kopitiam Kita: roti titab, roti titab pandan, many different choices of prepacked meals including nasi dagang, nasi tumpang, laksam
    - Kedai Kopi Din Tokyo: laksam, nasi dagang, nasi campur, and toasts
    - Restoran Hover: nasi campur, ayam kampung
    - Cucuk: skewered meats, meatballs and vege with many different types of sauces
    - Volt Cafe
    - Kedai Kopi Lama
    - Jubilee Cafe (Kelatefornia)

Omg yesss, the seafood! Fruits and seafood were so cheap there back then, and they were much better than the ones in KL too. I lived there from 1996-2005.

I like this eco-concept of food wrapping into palmtree leaves.
Rice wrapped into paper envelopes also looks cool!

Plus, the banana leaf that we use as food wrappers actually give it a nice aroma. You should try some when you come visit. 😁
