I live by the sea and now everytime I hear seagulls I can't help but think of Violets Tale. Cheers for that Ren.
I think people overlook Jenny's tale a lot and she is just seen as the victim ,people don't stop to think about the 14 year old on the street after midnight wearing high heels and and with enough money for someone to mug her ,Jenny was a survivor in so many ways but incapable of speaking up for her self, just like her mother . Ren has created a generational tragedy of Shakespearean proportions , but at the heart of it is the abuse that silences women. The abuse that steels their voices and conference at a very early age and leaves them open to it happening all over again .
She _is_ the victim...One of them, anyway.
"enough money for someone to mug her" - She was mugged for a purse and phone, technically, but people will mug for mere peanuts. It doesn't much matter that a target is a big score. It matters that they're isolated and unarmed. It's a fuckin' tragedy. Hell, read a story the other day some guy killed his pal over ten bucks.
Right... just like his girl was busy... that's why his bro didn't answer the door!
There's way more to this than people know, than the video shows!
As he tells it in a twitch stream... well... look it up! Way More to the story!
Yep. I was as shocked as you were lol. Great stuff, thank you! The boy is a genius. P.S. I just realised you haven't really yet heard him proper-sing or proper-rap yet. Just about everything you've done so far comes from his brilliant "Bardcore" genre. Maybe try Chalk Outlines (live) for singing and The Hunger for rapping. If you want, I mean. It's your channel. Cheers!
Also, "Humble" for that happy island vibe : )
Just when you think you know Ren... you don't know Ren ; ))))
Two suggestions both duets with Chinchilla Chalk Outlines (Live) and How to be Me (Live) first song about dealing with subscribed drugs and the next about suicide awareness. Both songs are exceptional.
The versatility of his catalog is on another level
Syllabus: required listening
- Chalk outlines
- How to be me
- Man’s world
- I shot the Sheriff/ Road to Zion/hip hop (this specific version is best)
- Genesis
- The Hunger
- Bongo Bong
- Englishman in NY
- Dominos
Great reaction to this genius!!! Just to note, Violet's Tale was written/released over 2 years after Jenny and Screech's Tales!!!
Amazing reactions! Absolutely loved them! Looking forward to more reactions to Ren, I found his music 3 weeks ago and I just can't stop listening to him.
Jenny's Tale - 2015, James(Screech) - 2019, Violet's Tale - July 28th 2022, think he was in the hospital when he did this one at the time.
well, I surely did not expect that reaction from a "basic white girl" 👍🏻😎
Cheers E.! 🍻
(first time visitor on your channel btw.)
Suggest listening to How to be me live with chinchilla. Or Chalk outlines live, also with chinchilla. Both are jaw droppingly beautiful and a different side to Ren than you have reacted to so far
Listen to his live performance with the big push doing I Shot the Sheriff Road to Zion & Hip Hop they perform it on the streets of Brighton it's frickin awesome
Videos of Ren busking in a street corner are great as well, they might be cover songs and not have such a story as his own songs, but they are pure musical talent
War Pigs
Great reaction, nailed the twist at the end! :) Ren's catalog is so damn deep. I suggest you find out what the heavy songs are, which are the more fun songs, and which are the more show off/fun songs, and mix them in. If you want a list, I can make one for you. more or less, be aware there are some that are SUPER heavy amongst many that are just plain heavy.
Also, I get my mind blown by his stuff with The Big Push.
Did she get the twist ending though? The hard edit cut looks like she's reading comments and reacting to them not the song.
@@WarriorOfGhengisKhan I honestly didn’t catch that. I was working while watching, so I likely missed that kind of thing.
The modern-day bard.
New sub, love your reactions, and I love checking out first time Ren reactions, and your the first one to mention the seagulls! It was nice timing in the bit of silence. You also noted Samuel in the credits, and credit he needs because he his the cinematographer / videographer in Ren's amazing one take videos.
In 'Hi Ren' I've seen a few wonderful reactors that are on my favorite lists as they come from an industry background, an opera singer / vocal coach, a classical composer, they are always great personalities and you learn about the music or performance you watch with them, in 'Hi Ren' I also found a cinematographer who broke down the 3 cameras used, when he picked it up for handheld, the lighting and so on, gave me more appreciation for the artistry when you learn that, also a sound engineer did the same sort of analysis, great stuff.
Then there are people who you just enjoy their reactions, no need for a professional skill approach, I very much liked your reactions so far, so now I am a sub.
Got my coffee... let's go!
Aha! Other songs? Chalk Outlines; Money Games parts one and two; Love Music parts one, two and three; Diazepam; Dear God; Freckled Angels; It's Alright; The Hunger; Do You Believe; Crutch; Genesis; Bittersweet Symphony; Losing It.
Then there is The Big Push, his band's covers and songs such as Why My Woman; Mannequin; All My Heroes; When She Goes. Did I mention Ren's work with Sam Tompkins, a remarkable singer in his own right.
thank you love Ren,,amazing artist who makes music from the heart....
Shakespeare himself couldn't write such a sublime tragedy.
At least 3 layers of inter-generational pain here - and possibly four, because we don't know what turned violets mother to drink or made her passive to the sexual abuse. But just the sheer truth in this piece is incredible...
We're left with a young boy lost, displaced and angry at the world... and a young girl who shared an inability to cope with confrontation with the mother she never knew.
The thing is... and the reason it hits so hard... is that, as unique as this piece is, the themes play out 1000 times a night in every major city. It just rings with truth : /
Ren's is twelve kinds of F'ing genius : )
"Shakespeare himself couldn't write such a sublime tragedy."
He could and he did. Why can't you appreciate Ren without lying?
@@grabble7605 Oh dear, Grabble...
Firstly, what might it say about your character, that you immediately jump to attributing a perceived error as a "lie" as opposed to a "mistake"?
Nothing flattering, I'd venture.
Secondly, your assertion would be trivial to demonstrate, yet I notice you chose not to. But let's take it at face value...
Please enlighten me as to precisely WHICH great work of Shakespeare contains these elements embedded within at least three layers of inter-generational abuse.
Then, I'll happily concede that you are correct and I was mistaken.
Having done so, you should probably then apologise for accusing me of lying rather than being mistaken. But then... I hardly expect you to do so, as its my experience that those who immediately drop accusatives, tend to be arrogant self-important assholes who, in their own estimation, are utterly infallible.
But, again, I could certainly be wrong. I guess we'll soon see.
The other alternative, of course, is that, sensing a trap, you'll simply flee the conversation like a coward - perhaps with some glib comment, perhaps with no response at all. That, itself, would speak volumes.
But, sure, please enlighten us all...
... to which epic work of Shakespeare are you referring?
He tells the stories and the filming of the stories are all done so well i found myself looking for the bodies laying on the ground. The saddest thing about this is the fact each of these things are happening in every town, city, and country at this very moment and the cycle continues
Great reaction video… as with pretty much all of Ren’s stuff there’s so much meaning in different layers which you pick up something new each time you listen to his stuff! My fave Ren song at the moment is his collaboration with Chinchilla a song called How To Be Me (but the live version is far better)… it’s one song that hasn’t got many reaction videos for some unknown reason but their collaboration called Chalk Outlines (live version) gets a tonne of reactions (still a phenomenal song though)!
Definitely my favorite of the three and I have watched this one countless times.
If you havent watched Sick Boi yet, do that next. Or the I shot the Sheriff, Mans World, Falling with The Big Push. All are amazing! Great reaction!
i did a reaction to sick boi :)
@@EllieroseReacts Damn, I need to find it now. I probably watched it. Lol and I messed up the next suggestion; Its Ren with The Big Push doing I shot the sheriff, Road to Zion and Hip Hop and THEN, Ren and Sam Tompkins doing Mans World, Falling. 🤦🏼♂️
Violet's tale is my favourite of this trilogy. I agree with you that it is the best written, but the performance (great in the first two) is stellar in this. The entire scene with Violet being beaten by Stevie is so disturbing. Ren steps into the villain's character in a compelling way. Even after seeing this video soooo maaaany times, I still flinch at the 'pinched her eyes and fold them up'. Such an intimate and violating interaction. Then Ren starts singing about the beating... it is almost lighthearted and jaunty... but it is about a drunk man beating his girlfriend to death, with enough detail to immerse the listener in the horror. It is brilliant, and I feel so conflicted about it. I love the entire performance, find this section the most compelling, and I also don't want to hear it again.... except I do. First time I heard this (on Spotify) I didn't like it as it seemed too melodramatic. When I finally watched the video, Ren's performance transformed the piece for me. Watching Ren perform it, I feel in the story and was utterly enthralled. He is a brilliant musician, brilliant lyricist, but his acting is so effective that it takes the entire piece to another level.
Great reaction. Thanks
Yes! great points. His acting is fantastic which is one of the many reasons he is such a captivating LIVE performer. Along the acting lines, his voice impressions are excellent. He can sound like Bob Marley, Jeff Buckley, Zack De LaRocha, etc.
The trilogy together is my favorite by far, and that's coming from a guy who loves "Hi Ren" and "Chalk Outlines"!
Awesome reaction!
I’m 56. No artist has EVER hit me as hard as this boy!
Yes, the plot twist was IN-effin-SANE. When he said "two twins..." I already knew and was like NO NO NO DON'T DO THIS, like a rabbit in the headlights. Loved the reaction, in some videos I wish you paused more to comment, but here I could almost physically see the many things you are NOT saying bubbling beneath the surface and this silence spoke louder than words.
My favorites are HI Ren, chark outlines and the ending of Suicide, but the 3 tales are amazing as well
Jenny and screech were obviously adopted separately after violet died, thats why they never knew each other, that's was the said part of the story, screech turn out like his father where as Jenny turned out like her mother, the irony was he killed his own sister not knowing he had a sister
Lovely reaction, beautiful accent, jarring expletives.🙉
Your reaction was just about the same as mine. Lol 🤯
We are the Children of the Moon, has very few reactions but it's amazing and the video is outstanding, I adore Ren and love the Ren rabbit hole but he always surprises and NO duds.
Beautiful ty
Stevie, the little prick, would have moved into the house with the steel shutters for a good while after his domestic misadventure, so the twins will have been brought up in foster families.
Sincerely my favorite twist ending in... well not just in music, but in fiction, since at the very least The Sixth Sense, possibly all time. Because while I kept wondering why those three songs were presented in a row, and why Violet's tale would have specifically taken place in 2005, I never for a second expected the reveal. Just sat here alone in my flat at night half-yelling a curse at my screen in disbelief.
You need to check out penitence by Ren. It's seriously amazing. It's really hard hitting and emotional
And if you want a change of pace…The Hunger or Losing It next…
Nice one. There is a lighter side to Ren. check out some of his stuff with his busking band, The Big Push.
Stevie(the Prick) would have gone to prison (Manslaughter), so Jenny and Screech(James) would have gone into care and got split up, they don't often keep siblings together.
The cycle of violence...
one suggestion, (if I can't say them all) Dominos
Chalk outlines next.(live)
Ren said it...."History repeats itself".......domestic violence is often generational......we all learn behavior from our parents........
Ren Ft Eden Nash, Humble, Ren Ft Bibi Crutch, Depression, Insomnia, Dear God... That should get you started...
Oh & Love Music 1, 2, & 3.
ren is great, good reaction
Money Game part 1 and 2 when? C:
Ole girl drinking bud heavies, watching Ren videos. I can relate to that lol
There is nothing heavy about Budweiser.
@@grabble7605 hey man, I didn’t give it the nickname
Check out Humble
The father murdered Violet went to jail
Thanks...
Great reaction, at least you swear in proper English!🏴 x
Like you Elliierose Violets tale is Probably my Favourite but all 3 are better watched together, not that it bothers me when reacters do them separately, i suggest you check out Rens Band The Big Push, try The Big Push - I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop
Try uninvited by ren

I fucking can’t

Sometimes swearing has a place...such as responding to a Ren mind blowing story twist. :)
