Your info is not correct: the taxi meters go on always the last 3-4 years. They even don’t turn off the meter if you ask. Tip for airport taxi anywhere in the world. Take any public bus for a few stops, then get a taxi to your destination. People get scammed on any airport in the world. Tip 2: turn on your own navigation and let the driver know you watch him.

Pay taxi by cash? I thought China does not use cash any more & all via QR/Alipay, etc.
So can cash be used to pay for food, etc as well?

Legally, any business should accept cash. Some might refuse, but if its the only option you have as a foreigners they will normally accept, although you might not get the exact amount in change because they don't have the right bills.
There's also still many elderly people that continue to pay in cash.
Having said that, installing AliPay on your phone and linking a credit card has become quite east since last summer, so I would recommend that. That option was not available yet when the video was made. (See our video on mobile payment).

@@ChinaTalkNL Thx - another subject, will you be updating your vlog on VPNs? Just that these products seem to fluctuate in terms of functionality - some recommended ones not working any more, etc.

We won't be updating the VPN vlog, for the reason you mentioned; they change too often. This source normally has the latest test data: cc.greatfire.org/en
Also, I've had very good experiences with LetsVPN the last few times. It's good, fast and affordable.

How about getting a taxi when you're outside of the airport? Do you just flag them down with your hand?

You can, but it can be hard to actually get one. An alternative is Didi, the Chinese equivalent of Uber, but you must be able to at least copy Chinese addresses into it.

@@ChinaTalkNL hi I open roaming and download alipay (which has Didi), will I be able to order a taxi? Or I must buy a chinese sim card to get a taxi?

First, download Alipay when you are still in your home country. Second, check of your phone works with eSim like Airalo. Then you should have mobile internet (otherwise get a local Sim at the airport). I would advise against using roaming with your provider from home as it will be extremely expensive.
You can use Didi in AliPay and most big stations and airports have a designated place for Didi pick-ups nowadays. It can be a bit confusing and chaotic though.
Personally, I just take the subways into town, cheaper, easier and often even faster.
