Those people who are out there with warning signs and trucks and directing traffic and trying their best to make the situation a little less dangerous for everyone are awesome. They definitely could've picked a job where they can sit in an office somewhere not having to deal with the harsh weather but they wanna do this so much respect from me

@@dougfriendly7676 From WSDOT a few minutes ago "Both directions of I-5 in the Bellingham area will remain closed overnight due to flooding and active slides threatening the highway. Northbound I-5 will be closed at Nulle Road (milepost 246) and southbound I-5 will be closed at North Lake Samish (milepost 244). Our crews will be staffing the closure points overnight and we will reevaluate the situations in the daylight Tuesday. Please do not attempt to go around the closures, for everyone’s safety.
There have been three slides on northbound I-5 in the Nulle Road area Monday. With the hillside still active it is not safe to reopen, though we plan to create access for emergency vehicles. On southbound I-5 near Barnes Creek, heavy rain and debris plugged culverts, leading to about eight inches of water on the highway and creating unsafe conditions.
There is no set detour for either closure as there have been flooding and slide issues on SR 11 as well as other county and city roads. We advise everyone who can avoid driving through the area to do so until Tuesday morning.
There are multiple other highway closures throughout Whatcom and Skagit counties due to flooding and slides. Our crews will continue to monitor and assess conditions and will reopen when it is safe to do so. We will update this post on Tuesday when we know more information."

Some better planning while rebuilding the damaged areas will result in a superior outcome from the next rainfall event... and they WILL become a regular occurrence
