The reason the plushies keep dropping is not because of their weight, it's because the claws have no strength to them at all. There's a setting on the back of the machine that makes it either very weak, strong, or rate payout. Rate payout means the claw gets stronger with each dollar spent. And once it reaches a threshold it goes from weak to strong
Exactly in its programming, it just opens a tad bit.
They are also programmed to make you think you were close to winning. It has enough strength to lift the plushie but you can see once it gets to the top it lets go and drops it so you think you were so close and try again.
You can still win with weak claws. It's easier with a machine that's filled (unlike those in the video) by lifting them a bit and make them stumble to the chute. The other technique is instead trying to pull them up and drop them, you try to push them. And the last thing you can try is to hook something of the prize with the claw like a label (they usually have a loop or tied to a loop, you can see a loop on the therizino plushie.)
That's what I was thinking.... They could make the Claw out of a material that dont look like weak plastic.
From the looks of the video the claw machine at Japanese was too lazy to add that in😅

I love that it doesn't matter where you are, these crane machines always have the weakest grip imaginable. To a point where it should barely be considered a "grab" it just....touching it really, lol.

They are made to scam people. They made the crane claws in a way that makes the toys fall, because the claws are weak and they're sensitive to jiggles in mid air. Its also sus that theres only one plushie in each machine thats not on the walls.

Apparently you can ask the workers standing around to make it easier for you, they reposition it making it easier after you spend a bit though.
For the box ones, I've seen strats where people use the arms at the sides of the box to push the box over if it gets tilted. When the arms push back out, it'll push the box. For that T Rex one, if you'd pushed the corner closer to you further to the right, the box may have fallen in.
Ohhh Japan is awesome, I imagine it will be great and sad when u have to get back home to England. It just seems like there is so much stuff to do, have as much fun as u can beavs (Ps: I love these videos:)

Don't know if they use the same technique there, but the claws tend to open a tiny bit when they reach the top. So you'd have to make sure it has grabbed the plushy in such a way that, when it occurs, it can't fall through.
That being said, there are also different stances that affect the way you pick up things too.
