Fly fishing a Mountain Stream for GORGEOUS Trout! || North Georgia Trout Pt. 2

  • NORTH GEORGIA PART 2 - Georgia isn't really known for its trout fishing. However the Appalachian mountain range reaches as far south as Georgia and has some of the most beautiful water I've ever fished. North Georgia is the farthest south that trout can survive in the Southeast of America. These mountains are full of brown trout, rainbow trout, and brook trout (the only trout native to the area).
    In this video we FINALLY find some wild trout tin Georgia and had an awesome day of fly fishing! We caught multiple beautiful wild rainbow trout, some of which were the prettiest I had ever seen. This small creek in the southern appalchains had crystal clear water and roaring waterfalls which made the fishing difficult but rewarding.
    I hope you guys enjoyed! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe!

    I enjoy the whole scene. The ripplin' waters trigger so many fond memories. I could sleep like a baby in my tent next to a mountain stream. I've seen you guys land some really nice fish, but still you find pure enjoyment of catching the little native bows, browns, brookies and even the more rare greenback cutthroat in Colorado. Just being there is the greatness and landing the big ones is the "cherry on top". I enjoy your videos for sure.

    Subbed! Quick story about trout fishing here or close. SC/N GA is my back yard. I've always fished with a ultra light rod and meal worms, crickets or power bait. My trout fishing buddy always used Joe's flies (rooster tail spinners) I never used them and he always out fished me. He fell several years ago fishing one of our favorite spots and sadly lost his life. He was the best friend anyone could have, a father, husband and a golden human being. It's still hard til this day for me to trout fish, but I do and love it. In his memory I stopped at the tunnel town express store in Wallhalla SC where he bought his Joe's flies and bought one of each one they had. I've rarely been to the river without catching my limit now that I used them. If you guys ever want to take one along they'll bite those if they won't bite anything else. I get it's not fly fishing but they'll grab those. They all have different names, apache, lil brookie, and trout poacher are my go-tos. You guys look into little and big Eastatoee river in upstate SC for some great trout fishing as well. Whitewater river has some very nice natives that are tough to catch as well. Appreciate the content!

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  Před 3 lety +1

      I'm sorry to hear that man! At least you guys had some great memories. But I actually love Joe's flies, in fact if you go to a lot of my earlier content (and even some recent spinner videos) you'll see me use them. They're definitely my favorite spinner. Thank you so much for watching and for telling the story! It can be dangerous out in the mountains no doubt. Glad you're okay and still out there fishing. I wish you the best!

    What's not to like about trout fishing, anywhere...I cut my eye teeth almost 70 years ago, fishing with my father on the limestone creeks of central Pa. I’m headed to North GA for some fly fishing next month and found you while doing some research for it. You asked for comments, I don’t know if you can control it or not on the video production end. But, the volume swings between talking and music are huge. I keep having to turn it down when the music plays and up to hear what you’re saying. Just an observation. Other than that keep up the good work.

    All this talk about euro nymphing makes me chuckle. I learned “tight line nymphing” many decades ago from the great Joe Humphreys. I still remember my astonishment right down to the exact pool and trout (a 13” rainbow) when I tried it for the first time and IT WORKED! I was on jury duty at the time and the judge was calling 2 hour lunch breaks. I’d wolf down a bag lunch on the way stream-side, fish for an hour and a half and race back to court. One of the cases was an eminent domain federal land grab for I-91 in VT. The plaintiff was a local rich guy who was so arrogant and smug on the stand that we found in his favor and then awarded him $1.00 🤣

    Spend more time fishing in North Georgia and you’ll fall in love like I did. I lived in Atlanta for 4 years and fished all over the state, but mostly in North Georgia-it’s incredible. It looks like y’all were in Rabun County (without being too specific) so you’re definitely in the right place, but it sounds like the timing was just not the best. Try early spring and it will be worlds different. If you need some tips finding those wild browns or better yet native brookies, send me a DM and I’d be glad to share some maps. Anything to help support a better view of trout fishing in Georgia!

    As a north Georgia native trout guy, I can tell you that’s about a normal day up there. The only catch and release most people do is to release the fish into a frying pan. Those hills are fished hard.

    Careful with those chest waders !! I once used them in a swift trout stream in N. Ga. I stepped into a hole. The waders filled up and took me away.. Thank GOD I was able to grab hold of a fallen tree across the stream. Saved my life !! I wear tennis shoes and shorts now. I don't care how cold the water is. I want to survive and trout fish !! HooAh?

    Hey man can y’all please do a tutorial on how y’all cast on the small streams and the techniques please? Probably a dumb question. But I’m new to fly fishing but love it, but I have a difficult on small streams here in nc. Thank you for all the hard work y’all put in for the awsome content🙏🏻.

    Question: what gear you using?
    Using 3wt or 4wt rods for those streams during the trip?

    • @hardmanfishing

      I was using a 3 wt, but it was a 10 foot rod so I could euro nymph and get some good reach.

      Super secret flies😉 haha I’m just kidding. We mostly throw variations of pheasant tails and hairs ears. Usually tungsten or something that is pretty heavy so we can get down to where the fish are
