Marc Okubo performs “the song with every note”
He does this shit live too while being free moving on stage. The thing I like about Marc is.. He actually plays his music and doesn't rely on a backing track to play for him like a ton of "technical" artist do.
@@moose1164 dude yes! I always thought it was cool that Marc would loop a lead with his pedal live and play the rhythm part over it. instead of having a backtrack. Super skilled.
Common man's collapse gang reporting in
Old is Gold
Yes!!!
This album should be remastered and re released. It’s a fucking classic
If it were remastered, I would listen to it. That would be cool. I can’t listen to anything before subject zero because their mixing & mastering was so terrible. Say what you want about Lucas, but the mixing instantly got better.
Ps, I know Lucas wasn’t on Subject Zero. They must‘ve just had to drop their old producer or actually got one in the first place around then.
@@HorizonEyes it took me a few listens to get into their old production. Born of Osiris had the same sound back then too, I think Sumerian stepped up their production around 2012 or so. I would say Eclipse and onward are super high quality mixes, but Comman man and ID are amazing in terms of writing so I look past the mix!
That would take so much away from what made that album so great.. Lukas is phenomenal in his own right, but he's not a replacement for Brandon, just isn't.
Just as Born of Osiris showed The New Reign was best when it wasn't over produced, so is TCMC. It's from an era we will never see again and shouldn't really be fucked with. As far as I'm concerned you can't make TCMC any better as it is.
There is something to be said for their demo stuff, though. Just as Born of Osiris did, with glorious day, showing that there is a case and point to a remaster. But TCMC album cannot be improved, or it's at least so risky it's not worth the effort. Less is more. TCMC/a higher place/the new reign are case and point. Such a brilliant era.
Also Subject Zero was a masterpiece and a stamp from a one of a kind vocalist. I miss his depth and writing. And of when Veil of Maya was less pressured to cater away from whatever techniques they wanted to keep using. They're still a top teir band but they were so much more original with Brandon. Those were 100% their golden years.
Hell no, this album and born of Osiris first album have such a iconic 2008 sound. The warm and dark overall sound and the bassy kick is iconic
@@HorizonEyes I couldn't agree more
The Djentist Formerly Known As Prince
why does he look like my 87yo grandma ???
This isn't djent.
@@lobster272 it'd be weird if he was talking about the guitar player and not the song
@@lobster272 I called VoM, ATB, BOO, ERRA, etc. 'Sumerian Records metal' back in the day. It isn't djent. Djent wasn't really a term back then. It isn't really deathcore or metalcore either. Has a little different flavor. Seemed like everyone on Sumerian had a little different flavor. A lot of phrygian dominant.
Boy this is just the bees knees
Honestly, ever since I saw them live I've thought he was probably one of the greatest guitarists on earth.
he is. this dude is my idol.
This album back then was way ahead of its time !!!!
Without a doubt
still is!
I remember seeing it played live when it first came out. Mind absolutely blown. Still is.
Still is a piece of gold from the djent gods
I didn't even know what to call it exactly when it first came out. It had a bit from everything. Way before the term djent became a mainstay.
Lmao 2:29 the cameraman was so ready for the sweep
hahahh , nice eyes broo..
so humble. this dude is literally one of the best guitarist of our time crazy
IF WE CANT EVEN TRUST OURSELVES, HOW CAN WE TRUST ANYONE ELSE?!
ooooooohhhhh
IT'S NOT SAFE TO SWIM TODAY
I dont think I can be saved this shallow water is my grave. It's not safe to swim today
@@nickdowdy2161 OPEN UP and INHALE WATER! OPEN UP! AND EXHALE BLOOOD!
This album laid the groundwork for a lot of the techy metal stuff we hear today. I remember seeing Veil of Maya play to like 50 people on tour with After The Burial and both bands just completely melting everyone's face off.
Dudes got slender man fingers. The reaches he makes look simple are bizarre.
Bro the section @ 2:00 hurts the top of my hand soooo much, I have pretty small hands so most of his shit is a bitch for me to play lol
Keep in mind he's playing a six string song on a seven string too 💀
yep hes not exactly doing the spider tecnique XD
Its not safe to swim today and Mowgli will always be my two favorite VOM songs
Marc Okubo performs "Be Marc Okubo, play a song and make it look simple"
He's an amazing artist.
Whenever he smiles I just imagine him saying to himself, "Man, I'm awesome."
Goddamn Marc and Tim Henson out here making me want a pink guitar
Oof
after learning this i can’t imagine how he wrote it
Masterpiece album for real
Marc out here looking like a lesbian librarian from the 90s.
Still looking fresh af
Hahaha who had a baby to Prince
Bahahaha
1000/10 would smash
And that my friends is how to get the ladies
this should be on the hub for what you did to that guitar
Absolutely hands down, one of the most unique guitarists of our generation. Amazing as always 🙏🏼
I mean definitely lose the 20 second intro with no audio
Always blows me away how incredibly good marc okubo is
Christ that 20 second intro is a bit much

Miss old VoM
i don’t last 2 albums were their best work in my opinion and this 3rd album sounding spicy so far
I love Commans mans collapse so much. Its far from perfect but man it was just so fun. Always in the rotation.
Fuck yes man
@@thejrfanclub628 Damn right, bro!
same. Their music went downhill imo as soon as they replaced the old vocalist and started sounding like a diet Periphery.
Dude, Marc is actually one of the best guitar players of all time holy shit, better than Tim Henson in my opinion and I love Tim Henson I think he’s a genius too
They are both legends in their respective styles, such class and accuracy
Marc is a better composer, and performer. Tim technically has more skills. As a guitar player, Marc wins by a hair. Polyphia's vision, however, is on another level.
I love him, it’s like he never gets tired
time for my yearly ritual of attempting to learn this song and failing miserably
1:18 That's one of if not THE MOST satisfying riff I've ever heard in all of Metal, and I've heard thousands...
Timeless. Classic.
This guy is a beast, I learned this song and this is rough af aha!
been trying to learn this song since 2011 and i still cant play it haha
Its fucking impossible.
Been learning this for a few weeks. I can play it perfectly in segments but putting all Together and playing it in time is a hell Of a workout.
@@edima now imagine doing that at a show and then doing songs off that album just as hard as that one perfectly. Dude is a stamina wizard but that’s just what happens when you do play these songs night after night. He is a true inspiration and I’ll be just as good or almost as good as him one day lmao.
Yusss! I got to about 75% of this song back around 09 or so. Marc Is just An Alien. This entire album is still one of my favorites this century (😎)
The most underrated riff writer there is
still one of my favorite songs ever
Good to see Marc's still got it!
Love me some Mark playthroughs!
No words !! ## look at those gifted fingers!!!
this man is an alien.
brings me back
This is still the most exciting and challenging song I've ever tried to learn on guitar. I only ever got 90% of it, that last chord progression into the breakdown always ruined me. Marc is masterclass
Try human murmuration by archspire 🤣
Learning the song at the moment, so many fuvkiny riffs omfg
@@daddyfrank8838 that’s my goddamn favorite man. Gives me chills every time I hear it. I got to film them playing a show, check it out if you dig the band 🤘🏻
Mine's berserker by ATB
Best album you guys made.
Can’t hate. Marc’s so good.
Dean Lamb is watching closely from behind 👀
absolute banger
Crazy seeing them make it after playing shows with them in the underground Chicago metalcore scene. Use to book shows with Born of Osiris and Oceano. Good times when we all were just looking to get away on the weekends in high school and just book everyone coming together cause there wasn't shit to do.
Sick guitar player, and sick song writer.
Love that song and guitar!! \m/
The simplicity of the guitar is incredible
Legend!
This made my day
Such talent 🤟
Hell yea.
I miss Brandon Butler. My favorite days of Veil of Maya. Had their albums on repeat.
I absolutely adore new VOM, but the older albums were so fucking brutal. It’s almost like a different band
Best album by far
Idk why but he looks like he just woke up one day and was suddenly a beast on guitar for no apparent reason
Also think he deserves extra credit for not having any fret markers
Marc pleaseee cover All Eyes Look Ahead thats one of my favorite songs ever
mark is my fav guitarist.
Yeahhhhh buddyyyyyy
Yeah 😍
The GOAT
sick!
i think this man ALONE may be getting me back into metal...
PLAYING A SIX STRING SONG IN A 7 STING GUITAR HE IS A BEASTTTTT
Gotta love the dean lamb cameo behind Marc in this video.
Seen him live couple times always worth it. At their shows a pit is formed in the middle and another of just marcs worshippers and chicks. No lie.
lmao marc stated multiple times he doesn't get girls even though he is a fucking god
The kid got sum serious chops Jeff was not bullshiting
The fact that you can hear his pick attack the whole fucking time makes it that much siqur!
Those hands are a cheat code. This song is so frickin hard. I still can't play it.
who could possibly downvote this
Wish we could get this instrumental version. Anyone know where to find it?
Damn, straight up one take
His glasses are nice!
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I can appreciate the camera man didnt do any annoying camera edits
The Artist Formerly Known as Marc
What a Chad!!!
Marc playing sick riff : XP
Fuck yeah
This grandma can really play the guitar
He literally said "Not bad" at 0:58 after the crazy ass part
This song is in drop b on a 6. Does anyone know how he tunes this 7?
my GUY
What a fucking hero, this tune is nuts hah!
1:11 The way he goes from a two hand palm mutting chugging to straight up going to 13th fret still chugging clean blows my mind. Master at work here 👍
Damn, I want to be his Guitar...
All Things Set Aside had the better riff grooves, the title track anyhow, but this song was always one of my favorites, the intro is so beautiful and his fingers are so damn long and player like.
it looks like such a fun song to play. i could probebly play a few parts. with emphisis on few, but still XD
Such a banger. I miss this old shit
The bloodlines camera doesnt do justice to how pink marcs guitar is. Its SO pink
This song was originally in drop B right? How does he tune this?
Brandon Robertson he still plays in drop B with the 7th string tuned to an F#.
F#,B,F#,B,E ,G#,C#.
You can see that he mutes the top F# with his thumb when he chugs the open top strings
5 steps down on e, 3 steps down for the rest
@@joelboyd9744 Considering his sig guitar has a 25.5" scale length, that low string must be either ridiculously loose or ridiculously thick
@@GrahamScanlonDrums it's a 70, so it's gonna be insanely loose
did he really have a short chat unbelievable
no one else gonna talk about how has playing a song he wrote on a 6 string, on a 7 here? not as easy as it sounds especially with the way this guy writes.... i mean 0:45 for example, good laawdd this man has chops!!!!
I see he’s got that “someone’s grandma” look going on
I dont like the band or the music, their style, or color of that guitar but i admire this dudes dexterity. Quite impressive i must say
Honestly, that's my biggest respect to him besides his writing. The song isn't ludicrously difficult to play, but it's a hell of workout for those fingers
Well that little granny plays amazing lol 😂
1:09 this manz is straight up having a conversation while playing that breakdown I just can't even
To be fair, playing those types of chug riffs is 100% muscle memory once you’ve played them enough and you don’t even have to think.
Don’t get me wrong, it takes tons of hours to get to that point.
@@tc5328 muscle memory doesn’t mean that you can inherently multitask while doing the muscle memory thing though haha I can play some pretty complicated stuff without thinking about it in the slightest, but the second I try to talk or sing over that, I will immediately mess whatever I’m playing up lmfao
Mark using Polarity Pickups now or in the past?
Dean Lamb in the background, shrimpin'.
Dean watching over his shoulder
AAAAALIGN THE STOOOONES
Cool as fuck
