Do you know how many times I’ve heard this? They’ll do a clean sweep and then it will go back to the same way.

It may work this time. Developers want to build more apts nearby...extending the Fishtown gentrification.

Dont let them.control the money. Look at what theyve done with that City already. They need an oversight committee so no one steals any of it..

This is a waste of money. You guys are only using this money at this location because of the gentrification that’s going on there. The city uses this money for repairing this area but you guys don’t have money for more police on our septa trains on broad street where people are driving around without license plates. SMH then you wonder why police officers don’t live in Philly. Why council members don’t live in Philly. This is just sad.

What happened to helping the addicts and getting them into treatment? Or moving them away from Kensington? What does this have to do with addiction? I don’t get it

Often the residents believe they will recieve benefits from this sort of thing..Property taxes will go up .The very folks that want this will be pushed out after the smoke clears...And this doesnt clear over night..This money may clear them from one area..But they have to go somewhere...

Obviously they are there because the drug dealers are there …many neighbors know who are selling the drugs but don’t ever see that .

Interesting that they did this segment at the “silver bridge”
Back in the 50’s-80’s there were epic battles on the bridge they separated two neighborhoods. Those around back then surely remember.
It then became access for addicts to get down onto the tracks.
My grandfather lived there on water street up until the late 80’s.
Super hot mess of a neighborhood back then.

So none of the money I think that is barely enough for the most important clean up: A place for the addicts and homeless to go. More police to enforce this. They do it everyday near the tourist attractions, so it is feasible to do it. Concentrate on that, and the people will keep the streets clean. Then they can request more money for the residents to fix up their neighborhood.

That has breadcrumbs compared to what they did and we all know that this is not going to impact anything just line the pockets of greedy politicians spring up for profit agencies that are there to help when all they do is facilitate the problem

Ok my question is will the taxes increase because the homes are fixed? And because the taxes may become higher will that cause displacement for those that own the homes? The whole area under the El and around has been seeing a revamp for sometime now, is this a bigger scam in the long run? Monies is being funded into the neighborhood, but is it going to the residents? I imagine over 10 year period they will continue to make unaffordable homes, taxes will increase and residents will be forced to sell. Yes Kensington will be cleaned up and parks/recs will be updated but it’s Gentrification really… can’t call it anything else but!

    • @user-kk5nh2pk8k

That’s where it all should go!!! It’s $$ from the opioid epidemic settlement from what I heard them say …Addicts are in these neighborhoods because they want to be close to the drugs …..so the people that sell the poison obviously live there too ….
But nobody says this why??because that’s why the addicts are there in the first place …but from what I seen their are businesses that opened on Kensington ave . It seems like take out food places , nail salons always will go into these run down areas especially when it’s so cheap cause nobody else wants to besides drug dealers or is that they know redevelopment $$ coming to area seems they always have a heads up in Philly . Just think about it.

They have homes . Some families offer to help etc… they still choose not to. And if they have a home it will only turn into a trap/crack house . More then half ain’t even from Philly
