an aubrey plaza late night show is all i need
yaaas
while i was being tortured in an Amerikkkan jail last year (for such fictional crimes as "insults which could cause a fight"!), i wrote a script that is just a 2-hour Dinner Date (FIRST date) tween Aubrey and.....SUPERMAN (because they're polar opposites) and it was a blast writing in her voice, all the crazy questions she'd ask him! (Supes is super-EARNEST and naive.)
I always wanted to script a FAKE Late Nite Talk Show with the gimmick that ALL THE DRINKS BACKSTAGE ARE SPIKED with "Truth Serum"....so all these big stars SAY HORRIBLE HORRIBLE SHIT once on camera, but they are roofied etc and don't realize it!
Now that you posted your comment, I think AUBREY should be the host of that talk show! Getting every A-list star to say SHOCKINGLY "honest" things, like insulting their directors or films they were in or claiming they had sex with all these other celebs, etc!
I'll have to go back to WRITERS, er, Rikers Island to finish that one while they cook me three hot meals a day and do my laundry for me!

Then she can make jokes that are over his head - but about him without him knowing they're about him... Everyone would be in on the joke except him. I love laughing the most when I'm getting away with something - like you have to hide it...

I think they didn’t have the audience Mics turned of when the band was playing, they laughed a lot more once she wasn’t singing. The reason the streamies seemed so awkward in past years was that CZcams didn’t have the budget for audience mics, so they couldn’t hear the crowd laughter.

I think 80% of why Audrey is so funny is because she is willing to let other people sink into the awkwardness about the zanny, dark thing shes just said. She will just stay silent and let a person/crowd descend into an awkward uncomfortable silence and give no reaction/ try to talk her way out of it. As someone who has her same sence of humor i find her hilarious and all of her jokes "hit"/make me laugh/i just get them. I would make these exact jokes but when I see peoples reactions will try to talk my way out of it. I need to be more like this Queen.

why are all the comments about how confused the audience was.... you can literally hear the crowd laughing the entire way through - they're not on a mic so its gonna sound disproportionately quieter. based on the comments i was expecting this to be super awkward but the crowd was with her the entire time and she killed it.

I know, right? I think a lot of Aubrey Plaza fans are invested in the idea that she's awkward and her humor goes over people's heads, but this clearly shows that she's a great performer who has a lot of respect in the industry.
People are dumb and just cannot get their heads around the fact that an unmic'd crowd is not going to be as loud on a taping as if you had been there in person. You can find the same stupid comments a la "This audience sucks" or "This audience didn't deserve [insert artist]" under almost every live performance of any band, too.
They get it. They just want to play a little "I'm not like other fans" game.

In an interview with Conan, she actually talks about the only thing she didnt really wanted to do for a role was a musical number bc she is not really good at it but she did it anyway.So i think her comment about her comfort zone at the beginning was about that. There are some great English, Scottish and Irish comedians who do what she is trying to do but they are actually funny. And I completely disagree with you on another point - Aubrey's jokes are actually not subtle at all. She is making it very obvious how it is meant to be funny, while it isn't. No way you have ever laughed out loud at her 'jokes'. She was good on Parks and Rec cause the writing is amazing.
