    it's good for the environment to fix computers instead of trashing them , we can do thousand of things with refurbishing computers : presentation in conference room or training room , gaming station , server , music player ,etc... some computer from 2006 to 2010 are even compatible with windows 10 and 11 . You have people all around the world who still perform basic functions on their computer , they don't need to watch 4K videos or play resources demanding video games

      Agreed, got hold of a MSI matx B85 motherboard which with a bios update allows overclocking, an I7 4770k in a dead Z87 motherboard & 2x8 gb 1600 mhz ram, a noctua nh-u12p tower cooler which i have leftover mounting hardware for, both a gtx 750 ti 2 gb & a gtx 970 out of the electronics container at the junkyard its a pretty nice bunch of hardware that still does work.
      Might start putting in that board, tower cooler & I7 4770k later tonight into my lil brothers pc.

      I agree with your point but we live in a society where people who use their phone for taking a call and using a basic few options still opt for 1200+ dollar devices and they change these every year too. I wonder how you would ever convince them to do the right thing

    • @tunkunrunk

      @@orange_tweleve the amount of phones and tablets trash is tremendous , they're built not to last , but they have a bad impact on the environment . You can fix branded phones and tablets , but unbranded , Chinese made are sometimes un-fixable because their manufacturers don't have customers service and they provide no support at all , not to mention spare parts that are unavailable , and the worst case is when there's no information about who built your device

    Heya, wel transiting that chip for 1 to an other board with so many pins is not easy but you proved it can be done and it was a very good idee to swap the 2 ic's. can't wait to see the next vlog on that intel chip very well done

    I have an MSI Z490, doesnt start up when pressing power button despite having the standby voltage. Shorting pins 3 and 4 on the PSU gets the board and cpu fan to start but no post. Then shorting the Clear CMOS pins and the board posts and works perfectly and will shutdown by pressing the power button. Wont restart again using the power button and have to repeat shorting procedure.

    I was just working on my RSMRST, thinking it was shorted with 20 ohm. Looks like it is low when off and goes 5V when started.
    Schematic-X is where I found my boardview.
    I've been looking at GPU repairs and they have logic chips that have to have the correct signal before the chipset will allow a start. Could it be one of those.

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes, I have also done similar repairs when I can find a boardview then it's easier to get more in depth with a repair and start checking signals. Unfortunately with this motherboard that is not possible due to the lack of information.
      However it does appear this board can start and run, so I have a reasonable chance it's the PCH causing the problem as that really handles the various reset and power on signals but of course it could be something stupid like a broken pull up resistor or open circuit via on any signal and that would stop the board from powering up.
      But I do like to make videos showing the reality of this type of repair, and sometimes I can't fix things but think it's still worth publishing them.

    hi LER...those are small components...may i request a video on a diy of a microscope using an old camera lens and a webcam. thanks. Keep Safe.

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
      @LearnElectronicsRepair  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi New Vaper - I could look at that. I think many USB Cameras basically use a Webcam and a Camera lens. That is basically how my overhead bench camera works and on it's highest zoom it gives good magnification and it is about 1m or so above my desk! So it should act like a microscope if I mount it closer. I'll have a play with that and make a video.
      However I would mention (and i have said this on several occasions) that in my opinion USB Microscopes are totally useless for micro soldering! They are very good for inspection but that is about it.
      I previously owned an Andonstar ADSM302 which are considered one of the better USB microscopes - and I ended up selling it and getting the binocular optical microscope (actually mine is trinocular simul-focal as I need to video for the channel while still looking down the microscope with both eyes). I don't know if you have used one of the USB microscopes yourself, but personally I can't micro solder with one - at least not very well.
      If you watch some of my videos you will see me struggling to do exactly that looking at the monitor screen (which is 24") on my current microscope which has excellent optics and I look like someone who has no soldering skill, then I say something like 'sorry guys I need to look down the microscope to do this' and I can then do an acceptable job of it
      The reasons are primarily stereoscopic vision - and to a smaller extent field of view. Try soldering wearing an eye patch or with one eye closed - if that does not affect your ability then a monocular microscope may suit you but I just can't do it well with no depth of field perception. And I know this from personal experience having spent good money (about £160) on the Andonstar I really wanted to make it work for me - but in the end I had to accept defeat and move on.
      I am thinking of doing some videos at some point with the cheapest stereoscopic microscope I can find (that has a suitable working distance) and cheaper than the Andonstar 302

    • @newvaper3794
      @newvaper3794 Před 3 lety

      @@LearnElectronicsRepair thanks for the quick reply. i would really love to own an Andonstar but due to pandemic i was laid off. i cannot afford to buy one. i watched youtube videos of DIYers using a camera lens and a webcamera, both of which i have lying around. unfortunately, youtube translate is not that good. i cannot understand what they're saying. i love your videos since you do not edit them too much. i am going for a magnifier/microscope that can help me since my eyes are not that good anymore. if you have time please make a video of a DIY SMD microscope/magnifier of which the materials are cheap. thanks again and Keep Safe.

    I'm currently working on a z97 anniversary by ASRock with the exact same issue (no power when shorting pwswitch jumper, green to black provides power while jumpered, etc.) I noticed a blown fuse near the power switch circuit and there was a capacitor missing near the CPU socket. Other than these two issues there didn't seem to be anything else noticeable occuring. I'm wondering now if the sio chip is the source of the issues but I'm currently at a loss.

    • @Mini-z1994
      @Mini-z1994 Před 10 měsíci

      Did you get anywhere with fixing this board ?
      Could it perhaps be a signal issue near one of the crystals that's supposed too respond to the power on signal ?
      Got a Z87 board here that doesn't even respond too shorting the 24 pin green & a ground pin here.

    sorry but i wasnt paying a lot of attention watching parts of this video, but did you get the exact SIO chip from the same model of motherboard? Those SIO are programmable, and for that to work, you either have to reprogram the SIO or get it from the exact motherboard model. Good troubleshooting though, good job!

    • @LearnElectronicsRepair
