I have one, used to play it in church,it was the most soothing instrument that I have ever heard, except ept for the saw. That one is haunting, but I love the Zither!!! ❤
That was exquisite. Touches you deep within your very soul. Isn't that what music's supposed to do. Enjoyed every second of it. With love from Sri Lanka. ✋👍🍀
Sounds like heaven. I am just blown away. Makes me want to learn this fantastic instrument however it does seem complicated. I think one needs natural talent like this gentleman.
Tienen muy buena música ahí, siempre fueron de mis sueños de pequeño visitar los andes e imaginarme la música de fondo pero por momento estoy atrapado en argentina ;_;
When I was six years old I found one of these in the trash. It was exactly the same as this one to my memory. I was playing with it in the garage and figured out how to play the first bars of America the beautiful and was totally amazed. My mother did not share my enthusiasm and it mysteriously disappeared the next day. After enlisting in the navy I bought a cheap guitar at the navy exchange. To this day I feel a great sadness that I was not able to keep that original friendship alive.
I am really sorry but what she did was so wrong and we need more musicians for this rare instruments, and there is some pride in teaching yourself, again I am sorry this happened to you, my mother has done similar stuff to me so I could relate to your comment :/
@@CharlieBrn This is not an auto-harp, but a zither. Ebay usually has them for sale. If you watch and are careful in looking at the pictures for damage, you may, over time, fine an old one in great shape at a reasonable price. Auto-harps are great fun, but a whole different critter.
Absolutely beautiful , gives me goosebumps ! Im about to buy a zither myself. I will have my grandmother teach me how to play it, she knows. Wish me luck!😄
Outstanding playing. I have a long way to go to match this. I love restoring old instruments. Many seem to sound better than new ones. Thank you so much,

@@marcusaurelius1511 Yes, theirs is probably the most famous cover of the piece. The composer _is_ Daniel Alomía Robles (using Andean folk themes), and "El cóndor pasa" was originally published in 1913, way before either Simon or Garfunkel were even born.
My Grandparents bought a Zither from a traveling salesman in the late 1930's. It came with a stack of cards that would lay under the strings. All you had to do was follow the dots...voila,..music! Accordions were also popular but were much more expensive. I once tried (unsuccessfully) to tune the old zith and play it but it's life was over. This brings back memories.
Because of your videos, I have ordered a six-chord, German-made zither off of Etsy. Can't wait to incorporate this enchanting instrument in some speech therapy sessions and circle times! Thank you for sharing your gorgeous music and videos!
My grandfather played for me, and it felt like i was in heawen, which i had begging for some lession from him but when i hear this melodi that is so wounderful i just wanna hear more, i was only 5 years old so
Right after the last war I found a cord zither somewhere. I had no idea realy how to play it. It was also partly broken but I sort of fixed it I tried to play it and low and behold I managed to get something good out of it. At times I would I would play with the radio and at one time my mother thought I was playing the whole thing but I missed a few notes in the process. However this was the beginning for me to learn to play musical instruments, nothing professional but for my own enjoyment and it never left me . I still enjoy music and and try to make the most out of it. Herb Voigt Canada
I also wanted to ask you about the two small brass levers that I see on the middle string of the lowest two chords. They look similar to sharping levers on a harp. Are these levers used to change the bottom two chords from minor chords to major (by sharping the middle note by a half-step)?
My mother played one of these when she was in her teens, now she's in her 80's. It reminded me of her.

Have you checked around for an auto harp on eBay or the like?

Such a wonderfully beautiful instrument...!
My grandmother used to play Irish music on her Zither when I was little, I’ve always wanted to learn but I never found the time.
Tout simplement génial. La chanson sonne douce et parfaitement complétée à la cithare. Merci. Salutations chaleureuses d'Allemagne.
