I bought mine in 2018 and it’s become a very valuable studio-tool for me.
I never mic an amp anymore & my tone-snob friends RAVE about the sounds I get, believing that I’m miking my amps.
    I can’t recommend Boss GT-1 enough.

I have the Gt-1B for the bass. Love it. I've only had it for about 6 months and it's still wonderful. For guitar, I'm mostly a clean tone with reverb and very faint delay. I haven't tried this unit but based on the Gt-1B I suspect that it's better than the mooer P1 and the Nux-300; both of which I've had and either returned or shelved.

  • @SuperBriandamage

Nice honest presentation.. The fact that you got rid of your very expensive modelers says a lot about the GT1.. I've been using one since it first hit the market.. I think around 2016? One very important trick that I learned about Recording using the cabinet emulations... I use the parametric EQ Located in the master section.. Right after the reverb In the display.. Because the high Gain amp models vary greatly in their eq curves.. I also use it when i'm not using the cab modelsgoing straight into the front end of a clean amp channel of a head or combo app... And the only output setting I use is stack return.. It has the widest dynamic and tonal range of all of them... And that parametric EQ is the fix all for either one of these applications..Once dialed in the tones are phenomenal. Try the tube screamer low gain with output around 1 o'clock before the Soldano model with gain around 45..Stunning..Thanks for the cool video

  • @joellebrodeur1015

My bassist has the bass version of this unit and he just changes presets and hasn't even dived into what it can do. It's silver, which I wish the GT had as it looks less dated.
With that said, I'm thinking of getting a GT-1 for a simplified set up. I have a Nux MG30 which does a crap ton more than this, BUT you have so many menus to dive into, so many settings to adjust to make it useable (global settings), IRs and connecting to the computer for more tweaking.
It's a fab device, but I have no patience with endless programming before I can use it. The Boss seems more direct to use with less fiddling or so it seems on face.
I have several amps, including the Roland Jazz Chorus, so this will work.

I could not decide on which to buy . . . the Boss GT1 or Zoom G3N? After reading reviews and viewing specs & manuals - I bought both knowing one would be back in the mail as a "return." Well, the Zoom is packed up and ready to be shipped today. All things considered this is an awesome rig! It will take some serious reading and using YT for suggestions, this little unit will suit all my needs for the type of "gigging" that I do. I do have a pedal board set up for a back up or vice versa - I'd really like to know the best way to chain some of my favorite pedals with the GT1? If you do get this unit - DO NOT FORGET to set-up your "output" 1st thing relative to your needs (using an amp or not?) - this will "muddy" up your sound if not linked up correctly. If someone knows of a good tutorial chaining the GT1 with pedals it would be appreciated.

Interesting review! I have had it for a couple of years and I find the Cleans, Delay, EQ and Drives very good.. I use another Boss Pedal, the MD 200 for modulation effects like chorus and Phaser, Univox etc.. I am not a professional and I wonder how those GT1 effects compare to standalone analog pedals in terms of sound quality? Because they certainly sound good and convincing to my non-expert ears..

    • @SoulStringChannel
      @SoulStringChannel  Před rokem +2

Hey buddy! Thanks for the comment! I totally agree with you! I think it's really great for that kind of "meat and potatoes" effects and sounds! Personally on the more complex modulation effects maybe having a separate effects like the one you have gives you a bit more depth and ability to tweak, but I don't think the sounds are very different. Ultimately I'm guessing the tech is very similar in both! Would definitely be an interesting review to make! Cheers

I own one of these and I simply cannot tolerate one second of it because the main selling point for me was the exp pedal, pitch shifter, and octave/harmonizer settings. But every time I use them, I hear a really noticeable whirling almost effect like sound that is horrific. This is on the presets as well as diving in and editing my own patches.

The problem for me is that I don’t own a computer. It’s too bad there’s no way to connect to a mobile app. Many people don’t own computers these days and are only using a phone and/or tablet for all their digital needs. I realize this is a 2016 product, but it is possible to connect via a USB “camera kit” if a mobile app for the GT-1 were to exist. I would love to see this unit updated with some newer hardware and mobile app capabilities. I mean, it’s great quality and tones for what it does - but Boss can still update the hardware/software and still sell for the same price point. A
My above comment leads to an issue that affects everyone regardless of whether one owns a laptop or PC. The prices on modern modeling units are coming down considerably with tons of competition in this space. I’ve seen modern units with included expression pedals for around the same price at a GT-1 or just a bit more money (depending on sales, whether a shop gives a discount, and sometimes even at the full price). This price drop will lead customers to buy newer units from other brands being that they have better screens, more fx buttons (in some cases), more input/output options, more controls to adjust, etc.
I also worry that the GT-1’s software will become obsolete and incompatible with to modern computers. I mean, it’s been 7 years since the product dropped. Most tech software is abandoned, not supported, and/or becomes incompatible with computers and mobile devices around 7-9 years after launch. It’s funny to think of guitar gear as tech, but these fx units are very much hardware and software unlike their analog pedal counterparts.
That being said, it makes more sense to pay a bit extra for a newer budget fx unit knowing you’ll maximize the lifespan of your purchase instead of buying something very old and ending up with a potential brick or the inability to control the device when it’s likely totally unsupported in a year or two (which means the lower price point loses its value very quickly).
The Boss GT-1 is not obsolete, but by next year, sales very well may start to drop considerably. When dealing with a tech device, you can’t just look at the price alone. There are other factors to consider before buying one of these GT-1 units. It’s no different than buying a cell phone. Would you buy an iPhone or smart tech devices that are about 7 years old at this point? Probably not for the same reasons I shared above. If it were me, I would buy a used GT-1 unit for no more than $75-$100 . . . or just spend a bit more on a newly released model from another brand knowing I’ll have years of use from it.
    Diminishing returns, folks.
    💸😉🤘🏻🎸😎

Hey Buddy! Thank you so much for your message! Some really good points! I totally agree that it's strange that most manufacturers don't work a bit more and give the possibility of an app for phones, tablets etc. As you say not everyone has a computer and it totally makes sense! I'm not sure what the future holds for this unit or the software but I think that today if you can get this at a good price it definitely is a good unit. Personally I wouldn't really use it as my main "sound" but I really find it great as a backup or effects unit in conjunction with another amp! Cheers my friend
