btob being called proper is the funniest thing to me. truly unhinged is what they are

The reason why they seemed a little bit out of tune is because dingo edited their voices. BTOB were so loud that their voice were getting into eachothers mics. And that's why dingo edited it. Alot of adlibs weren't clear because of the same reason too.
Dingo actually gave a statement regarding it too because melodies (fandom name) pointed it out

Really? I'm not even a melody but when I saw the mics I thought they seemed too close to each other for the level of "noise" these guys can make, their voices can be so big and loud I'd have thought their mics would be placed further apart or the show would have taken proper precautions because it's really well known these guys have very powerful lungs

Actually.. what I believe is that the pitch the boys are using are exactly what was needed and directed for the specific songs... it is to the liking of the director or producer.... isnt it? I am saying this because I remember watching their behind the scenes (if that is what it's called😅)

@@pocky11stick To be fair, they aren't as underrated as you'd think. You can only apply underrated to them internationally but tbh they are still more well known internationally than some groups out there. But in Korea? girl, they're the second most popular group especially during their prime. Even when Yoo Jae Suk who is like the national mc of Korea was asked who is his favorite group. He says it's btob and they have also sang their songs twice during their concerts on running man which is a big thing because running man is one of the biggest variety shows in Korea. Btob's song missing you was also the 3rd longest charted song in melon after 2 bts songs. And even though they don't have as much attention now compared to when they were at their peak. It's still really impressive for them to get such results and support for a group who has been in the industry for 10 years, went on hiatus for 3-4 years, lost one of the key members. But they're still very much relevant. I wouldn't be surprised if they'll get another missing you type of success in the future since a lot of Koreas still know them even the younger ones.
Dingo's editor informed that they had to edit BTOB's voices because their voices were so loud that it sounded like 12 of them were singing together.
I think that did them bad on the harmony part of Pray/I'll be Your Man. Damn I was waiting to hear our 4 big vocal belting and 2 rapper aggressively rapping 😢
actually if there were any weird out of tune parts, fans actually complained to dingo (the one who made the killing voice video) about the same thing that they were editing their adlibs and voices slightly. dingo apologised and said that it was because btob was so loud their voices overlapped each other’s mics so that’s why 😭😭

Omg! You are right! There are added adlibs. I was hearing someone on the higher harmony being off in one of the songs but it didn't make sense because no one was doing it when I was looking at their lips. Now that I see your comment, it makes sense.

now that I watched this entire thing, I can comment that you are actually very right about them being "trained": Changsub (orange collar guy), Hyunsik (white shirt & tie guy) and Eunkwang (dark blue sweater guy) studied Practical Music in college (changsub and hyunsik with a crazy acceptance rate of a cutthroat 3000:5 ratio at their year), and Changsub and Eunkwang are both musical theatre actors. On top of that, Hyunsik and Minhyuk (far left rapper with the cool speaking voice) compose and write most of BTOB songs, so they're really the whole package!
One thing you're wrong about is about them being proper tho; they're probably the most loud and funny kpop group out there and they're not afraid to appear silly or dumb in any circumstances🤣🤣
Yook Sung-jae also won first place as a vocalist in "Fantastic Duo" and also won first place in "Duet Song Festival.He was praised for being the perfect vocalist on "King of Mask Singer"

I love BTOB not only for their amazing performances but for the fact that they broke the KPOP mode for every idol having to appear amazing and without fault, perfect. They showed everyone that in fact everyone is human everyone has flaws and you can still be amazing ❤ they make me smile at the worst times and that is not an easy thing for people to do ❤️

im really loving the attention hyunsik has gotten thru killing voice. he is insane. this guy got insane range, tone, technic on top of that he got bachelor and masters degree in practical music, plays every musical instruments (he got credited for playing almost every instruments on his solo album), knows how to compose and arrange. literally a musical genius

Hyunsik not only has this crazy voice range, but also plays so many instruments and produces BTOB songs using his own recorded samples. He just didnt left anything for others. He does everything!

Melia you are on POINT that they sounds “trained”! Vocalists, 4 guys in the middle all graduated with vocal/practical music degree in uni and tie guy, hyunsik and orange collar, changsub graduated top tier vocalist uni. That school’s entrance was so competitive that admission ratio was 3000:5. So yea these guys are more “properly” trained haha

It's cool that you made Men's Choir because they were originally trained to be an acapella group. They even trained a lot with the Boyz II Men songs, which you compared at the beginning of the video.
Changsub (orange collar) has range indeed. His is wild and this video, although very good, does not show everything he is really capable of. For you to have an idea at the age of 15, long before his debut he had already won a singing competition. He trained to be part of an acapella, band and then finally kpop group idol. He had vocal nodules, his throat wasn't in the best condition and he kind of had to learn to sing again. He is a musical actor, and was in a military band during the military mandate period. All this made him absorb a lot. He has a lot of vocal knowledge. I think his voice is the most adaptable precisely because he has experienced almost everything and has overcome obstacles the most. That's why he's my favorite voice. He has a very beautiful vocal color and sings like an angel. Whenever I see vocal techs reacting to BTOB they praise Changsub's vocal control, and it's something I've started to notice when listening to him. It's amazing.
It's interesting that you said that the best falsettos come from baritones because Sungjae (white shirt with blue lines) is also considered a baritone, but he has some falsettos that make no sense how good he is. Like, in the song When It Rains, there's a high note in the background that everyone swore was Eunkwang until they sang it live and we found out it was Sungjae. It was mind blowing, and also not because it's BTOB after all. I was really happy when you praised Sungjae at the end because he definitely has the most emotionally charged voice in the group, and that makes listening to him so beautiful. He makes people want to cry when he sings.
You guys mentioned DK, and he did a musical with Eunkwang (guy in the blue navy sweater). By the way, Eunkwang is considered one of the best vocalists in kpop. Like, he can do so much more. Masked Singer? Won all. Sing in soprano? No problem. High notes? It's his house. This guy is simply incomparable.
All this praise for Hyunsik (all white shirt ty) makes my heart swell with happiness. Everyone in BTOB loves music. 100%. Their motto is to sell emotion, not albums. But Hyunsik is made of music. There is no way to describe his passion in words. He's just made of music. This guy grew up with music. His father is one of the best folk singers in South Korea, so he grew up with music. He can play so many instruments. He knows how to do so much. For you to have an idea, 90% of the songs in this video were all his composition and production. He has an amazing solo project called Rendez Vousz. It's full of stuff about the universe, the galaxy, and that smart stuff because he's smart too (of course he is, what isn't he?). But it's also very beautiful, kind, poetic and romantic because that's what Hyunsik is all about. He even did a free concert on the street for the fans because he just loves music and he loves sharing it with us. He is the most genuine and passionate guy I know.
BTOB is a group with 11 years of experience. Sadly, one of the few old groups that survived and is still active. In this kpop world where all eyes are on what's new, they've managed to stick together and keep making music. So much so that in Korea they aren't even considered just kpop idols anymore, but artists (it's a whole cultural thing, but y'all get the idea)
This video is just a little taste of what BTOB is really capable of. Everyone can sings. Minhyuk (the one in the light blue shirt) is the group's rapper by choice, as he also knows how to sing beautifully. His voice is very melodic and smooth. And yes, his speaking voice is really beautiful, so much so that he is a presenter on a radio station. Peniel (the last one) could barely speak Korean well, and look how he is today. He never stopped challenging himself and still overcomes obstacles today. And the results of this is his evolution, which if you knew it, you would be moved. Although the few times he sang, I always thought his voice was beautiful. Ilhoon (former member, forever loved) was simply one of the best rappers in Korea and yet, even jokingly, he sang like no one else.
They are the complete package. Recognized as the kindest, most genuine, most talented, funniest, most crackheads people in the industry, and that's not even me saying it, it's everyone who worked/lived with them. There's always a new report/story of what good people they are, fun to be around, respectful, comfortable to talk to. This comes from staff, tv show producers, other idols and even regular people who only met them once.
I am very proud to be their fan.
Thank you so much for the video and the time you took to react to it. Killing Voice is something we've wanted for a long time for the boys, but it's nowhere near what they're actually capable of. They have so much more and I would be very happy if you take this journey. It doesn't have to be on video, just in your personal, feeling the voices as passionate music listeners. Their songs are known for being sentimental to the extreme, deep and meaningful.

This is not true. They are not the only ones. There is so much talent in KPOP and many of the groups write and produce and contribute to choreography. It's pretty common. It's ok for many to be excellent.

For Hyunsik (tie guy), his voice is almost like a machine made sound. This is what always comes to my mind when I hear how perfectly and flawlessly clean his notes are. It’s almost like he has no weaknesses it’s insane

We may be a bit small to other fandoms, but we are extremely tight and as a long-lasting fandom in the industry for 10 years, we are verrrrry open and one of the chillest warmest fandoms. I'm a young fan who joined just this year, so I have been welcomed by many mature fans so I can say this confidently. So, please be open about comments, of course as long as it isn't harmful ^ v ^ //.
In fact, we love when vocally focused channels do BTOB as our group is so talented, but we can't keep up with their skills. We flock to vocal coach channels, cus they catch out the more skill aspects, rather than our commentary which is usually, 'DAMN HIS HIGH NOTES ARE SO HOT'. Keep talking about their vocals, textures and all that professionalism PLS LOL
So really haha you guys don't have to keep reassuring us by saying you aren't criticising them.
In the kpop industry, Mamamoo and BTOB go hand in hand in vocals, so that's the kind of stuff you could expect. Except BTOB is a bit more vocal focused, teeny bit less dance in terms of discography.

i'm kinda 3 years into this btob rabbit hole and, seriously, once i see a vocal teacher or professional singer react to them, i learn smth every time.
like the other day, i learned about the texture they add their voices in order to match the genre. now, i learned about the vowel placement and, holy hell, i've been listening at Beautiful Pain for a long time but i only learned about the many ways changsub pulled his section off in this video.
while all this time, all i know and think and say is that btob sings so greatly. hahaha

Sungjae doesnt get much attention when singing along his hyungs because the other 3 are just more advanced in their techniques. Sungjae on the other hand gives me or makes me feel so much emotions in his singing which is why I love listening to him. He’s my favorite person in kpop!!! @Joy CB totally agree, when people ask me who's my bias in BTOB, everytime i say its Sungjae, their reaction will be, ahh bcoz of the face...and i'll be like, Nooo, its his voice...there's just something in Sungjae's voice that makes me feel emotional in so many ways..

The guy in the white shirt and black tie (Hyunsik) can quite literally do anything.. He can play all sorts of instruments, sing high and low notes, and he writes and composes most of BTOB songs. The members call him the Father of Music.
I feel like eunkwang (the guy in dark blue sweater in middle) is more a showman than actually having to work hard while singing; when seeing him sing while doing something else (so not focused on performing), he also has the prettiest stable voice without all the stuff around it :)
though I definitely agree changseob (orange collar guy) and Hyunsik (tie guy) are more effortless hahaha

I love that Hyunsik is getting well-deserved compliments because of Killing Voice. A lot of people know Eunkwang is a monster in terms of vocal techniques (I do think this performance only showcased very little of what he can do so please react to his Immortal Songs stage singing “That Man”). Changsub has always been the instant favorite of newer fans bc of the quality of his voice. So that leaves Hyunsik’s insane vocal range and precision and Sungjae’s beautiful, emotional tone being less known among newer or non-fans. So thank you! All of them are different yet all incredible.
Love your comment, especially, when you mentioned about Eunkwang. This might be the reason why he was chosen to be “ main vocal” position and the leader during their debut. By the way, BTOB can prove that they are 7 vocal ( as Eunkwang said, all of vocal positions in BTOB ; Eunkwang, Changsub, Hyunsikand Sungjae are main vocalist, not only him) I’m so proud of being a Melody! 🩵💙✨

I was a fan of changsub for about the first week I listened to them. Then I noticed Hyunsik and his amazing vocals and never looked back lol. Just him in front of a paino with his soulful voice is all you need. I love his solo music too. I listen to him everyday. I think Changsub is easy to like, he has a fun personality and a beautiful singing voice. But don't sleep on Hyunsik, especially the opening to his song swimming. wow great smooth sound.
For me, it’s completely the opposite: at first I noticed Hyunsik, but then something went wrong. I've been liking Changsub's vocals lately😅

They are one of the best vocals groups in kpop, there hasn’t really been a boy group to outsing them
We always hear that word 'resonance' from BTOB too. I think they always aim for that from their graduate school.
Hyunsik (necktie) is a Monster when it comes to range. Changsub(orange collar) is a CEO of a music(performing arts) school. Both of them are from Howon university.
Changsub is a musical actor as well as Eunkwang(navy blue). He's a director of Cube entertainment and has been trained in classical music. Sungjae (blue lined sweater) is an actor and I think he got his singing style from old singers and is a baritone just like Hyunsik. He sings like a dolphin sometimes in his adlibs. The rapper on the left, Minhyuk, also sings but I guess he gave all singing parts for this vid to the vocal line. His voice is rough and tough when rapping but he has very sweet singing voice. I always listen to his song 'Goodnight' to sleep. The rapper on the right, Peniel, can also sing. His voice when rapping and singing is very cheerful and very youthful.
There is another rapper, Ilhoon. He's no more in the group so you might be confused if you see 7 of them. His raps calmly. They named his style lazy rap. Sometimes his rap is like a sjngsong manner (I don't know if I'm right)
All of the songs you heard was written, composed and even arranged by them. So mostly their parts are tailored for them.

The guy in dark blue navy sweater (Eunkwang) is the DESIGNATED main vocal. The guy in orange collar (Changsub) is the DESIGNATED lead vocal. The guy in white shirt with a tie (Hyunsik) is a SUB VOCAL
The guy in blue collar (Sungjae) is a SUB SUB VOCAL.
But Eunkwang said that they are all main vocal material so they consider themselves as ALL main vocalists 💙

BTOB has a lot of this type of adlibs btw. I think they just love doing it. Us, fans, even say that it’s not a BTOB song unless the 4 vocalists are in a vocal battle 😂
I love killing voice but I’m kind of disappointed at how the video came out to be. Cause I have been watching BTOB singing without mics and without background music and I know that they couldve done better than what came out. I thought it was only me who noticed it but other Melodies did too. And we were right, a Dingo representative said that because BTOB’s voices are too powerful, their voices overlap each others’ mics which made it sound like there are more than 6 people singing, that’s why they had to tone down the adlibs. It was actually evident since there have been times wherein the vocalists were still opening their mouths (singing) but we can’t hear their voices anymore.
But I’m still very thankful to Dingo cause a lot of non-koreans have finally seen how great BTOB are. (BTOB are very well-known in Korea)
Fun fact: BTOB is a self-produced group, more than half of the songs they sang in Killing Voice are produced by either Hyunsik or Minhyuk.

23:20 - here's my take on this, kpop idols are "trained" singers in that they learn to sing when they enter a company as trainees. even if they're not good singers, they are taught to sing and can carry a tune. however, there are "born" singers in that they just can sing and training when they enter a company just enhances that talent. some groups have 1 or 2 born singers and the rest are trained, but BtoB has 5/6 born singers. That's exceptionally high! And their songs reflect that.
i can see how they're presenting a "proper" image in this video, but that's probably the last word i'd use to describe this insane group of men
Hyunsik, the guy in the white shirt and tie, is such a musical genius and I’m so happy for all the praise he got in this video. He is the son of a very popular 80s folk singer, he composes and produces the majority of the music BTOB releases, and his vocal range is just absolutely insane. He has an amazing live performance with his father, that is just phenomenal, I hope you can listen to. He’s the leader of BTOB and as much as he could just do himself, he likes to give bigger parts to the others as he likes to let them shine instead of him to allow them to really show what they can do since we know what Eunkwang can already do (if you’ve watched his solo performances and competitive performances you’ll know)

BTOB (Born to Beat) composed of 7 people (4 vocals and 3 rappers) but something happen to other member. The other member whose gone now in the group is Ilhoon. His a rapper and producer. His now doing fine with his life. This year 2023, Btob is celebrating their 11th anniversary. These kpop group is called a "King of Ballad" in Kpop world because of their voices and the song and melody of it. These groups are all rounded (vocalist, rapper and dancers). MELODY is the name of their fanbase.
Eunkwang (dark blue sweater guy) - leader and oldest member of the group. Main vocalist of the band, entertainer, musical theater actor and songwriter.

I remember reading somewhere that Dingo had to edit the audio a lot because Btob were overlapping in each other’s mics (which is why it sounds odd in places and I think they also cut out adlibs too)

The leader of BTOB Eunkwang (the one in Navy blue jumper) is the same person in your “Love Poem” react video in the middle.
Crazy and funny fact: the Dingo audio director shared a message that the volume of their singing was adjusted because their voices were too powerful that each vocalist's voice was captured by other vocalists' microphones. Voices were overlapped making it feel like 12+ people were singing together.
Therefore some of the harmony and adlib were taken away, so it probably sounded different from normal BTOB's live. But of course, the original LIVE was very good. And yeah, the “clean” singing compared to other groups was also caused by the reverb having to be taken away since they’re such strong singers. Leaving reverb would just wash over to each others mics and ruin their sound
Fun fact: Hyunsik and Changsub studied Practical music in college and one of their teachers was one of the ladies from Bigmama (I believe it was Shin Yeona)
Finally!!! Super love BTOB! The guy with the white shirt and tie is Hyunsik, called the father of BTOB's music, who produced most of the BTOB music. Hyunsik was influenced by his father (a folk singer) and was exposed to a wide range of music from an early age. His family had a habit of listening to the whole album from start to finish, not just one song at a time. Hyunsik was first attracted by Stevie Wonder's music. He has been fascinated by Stevie Wonder's music ever since. He even sang Stevie Wonder's "Lately" for his university entrance exam (Practical Music) and of coz became a student of Howon University (Howon only accepted five out of 3000 applicants into the Practical Music major. Changsub, the guy in the sweater with orange stripes, and Hyunsik were the only two male accepted).
Apart from Stevie Wonder, he says that whenever he hears a song by Donny Hathaway, he feels a sense of soulfulness, e.g. A Song for you. He also likes James Ingram, George Michael, Damien Rice...etc

I really really like Sungjae's voice(the second guy from the left). Like you said, his voice definitely has a rock ballad vibe and It’s true that his singing style requires a lot of effort. And I really love it because there's a emotion and rawness that only he can give.

Hello Chase and Melina, I’m so excited for your reaction to BtoB! Wow so glad you took to liking Hyunsik and Changsub (and really just all of them) but fun fact: Hyunsik (tie and white shirt) and Changsub (orange collared sweater) were both trained by two Big Mama singers 😊 and I have to agree, they are really great and versatile!! Also Melodies correct me if I’m wrong, but while recording the killing voice, the audio director tweeted that all mics (not just the ones each person was singing into) kept picking up on other voices and their harmonizing moments so the sound overlapped so much that it sounded like 12 people singing instead of 6; some of the audio was cut out/lowered as a result. The whole group is so so impressive 💙💙 thank you for your reaction to them!

Others have mentioned Hyunsik (guy with tie) and Changsub (sweater with orange lining) are Howon graduates - one of of the most sought after universities in Korea for Practical Music - who got in through a very tight competition of 3000:1.
Just want to add in that Hyunsik recently finished his Masters too! He took his Masters in Practical Music and has this philosophy that there is no end to studying music and always wants to learn more and refine his knowledge and skills. Lately, he mentioned he's been doing a self-study of arranging music. Very similar to Eunkwang (guy with dark blue vest) who also has this philosophy of there is no end in studying and practising singing. Till this day, even though they are already 11 years into their debut, the members of BTOB are still continuously in practice rooms practising their skills - vocals / dance / rap / instruments / composing / producing etc.
This is on top of them having such likeable and great personalities and group dynamics too. Hope you enjoy falling into the rabbit hole!

a lot of things in this video are true.
eunkwang is known for his ability to sing with very proper technique (especially for classic singing), and he always singing forwardly (idk how to say that, but ig he ever talk abt this in knowing brother before).
changsub is known for his excellent half-air-half-voice singing ability. i think noone in kpop industry can sing as good as him with that technique. i'm not surprised u fall in love with changsub, he already stole everybody's heart with that voice😂 even my bias is him.
hyunsik definitely the widest vocal range singer.

The audio producers of the programs actually posted that they had to tone down some of the member mic. Because all of the voices overlapped with each of their mic. Idk if that makes sense. But if you see the video there’s part that 2 of the member doing harmony/adlibs but there’s no audio of them singing. before the producers gave explanation, their fans (melody) actually saying that for some reason the video is not satisfying enough to them.
So basically for the harmony of the song "I'll be your man" that sounded out of tune, the main melody was edited out🥲 I don't know why Dingo edited out so many of their harmonies in this Killing Voice, but it made some of them sound off when I know they sang them almost perfectly (because they did these harmonies many other times flawlessly)
So I recommend you guys to watch a live performance of "I'll be your man" because that harmony is actually one of my favorites, and I also recommend you watch just other vocal videos of them that are less edited!!

All the vocal lines of btob have majored practical music, so thats probably why they sound very proper and clean!

i love how hyunsik got a really proper appreciation here. i mean when we mentioned about btob's vocal, we always think about eunkwang or changsub automatically. but through killing voice, they really give the spotlight to hyunsik so he shine so good here.

BTOB (Born to Beat) is an 11 year old group, trained to be a band, trained to be an acapella group and as an acrobat group as well, haha. With 4 vocals and 2 rappers, but all 6 can sing and rap well. They have a diverse discography ranging from pop, dance, jazz to ballads, rock, neu-funk and rnb. Their music is hard to put into a category that their sound is a genre in itself. The genre is BTOB. Individually, each member has a different style and voice quality & texture..each has his own solo songs & album where he can showcase what he's good at. But as a group, they really sound so good together & they are known for putting raps in ballads that sound so good and also rapping while there's singing in the background..also famous for having choreo with their ballads. They are known for their heartfelt ballads and songs of comfort..sometimes called the Boyz II Men of kpop. Bu I gez one of the reasons they can sing so well is bcoz they have been together for so long, stayed in 1 room in 1 dorm during their early years..they're more like brothers now and they know each other's strengths and weaknesses, they are comfortable with each other and know already what they are going to do when singing.
The guy in navy blue sweater is Eunkwang, the leader and known for his amazing head voice. He is also a musical actor and you have already reacted to him when you reacted to LOVE POEM. He's the one who did the arrangement and part distribution for the three of them (with Jongho and Seungmin) He had legendary stages in Immortal Songs, already won 4 times there. Do check out his performance of THAT MAN and FATE..so good.
The guy in tie is Hyunsik, the baritone and belter with crazy range. He's the composer/producer in this group (together with the rapper in blue long sleeves, named Minhyuk who's also a singer)
The tall guy with white vest and blue lining is Sungjae, the maknae. He also has a rich, low voice like that of an old guy already but can go high, too. He is an award winning actor.
Rapper on extreme right is Peniel..a Korean American who has a very bright voice and a distinct accent that makes his talking sound cute. He also can sing well.
Guy wearing vest with orange lining is Changsub, has a beautiful, heavenly voice. He's also a musical actor. He and Hyunsik (guy with tie) are both graduates of Practical Music in Howon University where the ratio of passers that time was 1:3000 I believe.
