MAE Listening Part #1: Understanding MAE through listening with Dr. Michael R. Gorman

Part #1: In the first part of this two part video dedicated to understanding Modal Acoustic Emission (MAE), Dr. Gorman gives a detailed description of MAE. In particular he helps to explain the importance of using a broadband transducer particularly when testing composites. Composite matrices emit noise when damaged at a very broad frequency spectrum. This acoustic information is lost if not listening to the composite correctly. He attempts show this via listening to multiple frequency ranges using both a narrow and broadband transducer simulation. After you have watched Part #1 please see Part #2.
