I love that the popes guard nowadays still use halberds but in their jackets are mp5s
actually MP7 ... still find it wrong when they should use SIG (Swiss Arms) SG 552 Commando (SG552-2P) rather x) but yeah ... halberds is where their at!

Im still a bit sad that i didnt serve in the military and therefor couldnt serve in the swiss guard
I love the idea that there are hundreds, possibly thousands, who have learned history via Sabaton long before the teachers get their claws into them.

In that case Sabaton needs to write songs about the history of slavery, the "dark ages", the American Civil War, the "red scare", and basically the entire history of Christianity.
Anything else public schools falsely teach?
I'm not religious but when I hear this song, I become a staunch Catholic for the duration of the song.
It's fun that mos of "fans" use this music (including the video you showed) to talk about crusades, when this music talks about one of the big defeats of the catholic church and the Swiss guard that died so the Pope could survive and negotiate his surrender.
The "Sack of Rome" in 1527 was a shock to Italian culture
and is often seen as the end point of the Italian High Renaissance
Rome population dropped by 75% if not more
and you see it in the art work.
Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel ceiling before the sack
it is a confident piece of work.
He came back after the Sack and painted the High Altar
and to me at least it is more angsty in its style.
BTW The Nanowar of Steel parody of Sabaton with Joakim singing
has him singing about Castel Sant'Angelo again which I found amusing.
Also in Western Christianity
the Sack of Rome and the fact that
the Holy Roman Emperor
Charles V held the Pope captive after that
meant that the Protestant Reformation
definitely went in a different direction
as the sackers were mostly Lutheran mercenaries
who had not been paid by the Emperor
and it solidified the hatred between Catholics and Protestants.
Also as Charles V was Catherine of Aragon's nephew
there was no chance at a divorce for Henry VIII of England
and he cynically moved over to the protestant side.

It makes me grateful that the US founders opted for a government with peaceful transition of power. All these popes, holy emperors, etc. are very numerous and confusing. In the Wild West, there was no shortage of "dukes" or other dubious royal titles that usually meant the person was a fake. Thanks again for your explanation, as now I'll be checking out Michelangelo's before and after art.

Hey b'y, that was one of the best Sabaton videos, despite being entirely unofficial. The movie it was taken from has nothing to do with the song, but it does create an incredible sense of atmosphere. It is, sadly, somewhat tempered by having seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and so I expect them to wrap up the video with the police arriving and arresting everyone lol.

I'm from Germany and I'm also an Odin follower. But Germany was a germanic nation also like spain italy england and all those european countries today. I don't believe in the church from the christans. I don't believe in that god that was made by the church I don't believe in the holy ghost or on Jesus. Even the hell and the Satan/devil was made by the church. The church killed the gods and their holy land and Valhalla.
Out of curiosity do you truly believe that the Norse gods are real beings, and that ragnarok will be the end of the world and stuff, or do u more partake in it as an interest and maybe take some of the philosophy/morals.

If you're a Christian you should check out Theocracy. Kind of a Christian power metal band and they're really good. I'd recommend Theocracy, The Healing Hand or Serpent's Kiss. I'm not religious at all but those are honestly some of my favorite songs
