    Thank you Dr Martin, I've enjoyed what I've seen to date. However, have you done any videos on how to walk on a treadmill? As repetition is a good way to learn we can duplicate from a side on view, the features of your continuous walking (on the treadmill) without going off the screen as you currently do. Additionally, you can demonstrate how you walk when you increase the pace of the treadmill and also vary the incline etc. Thank you for educating such a forgotten area that's so important to humanity.

    • @ToddMartinMD
      @ToddMartinMD  Před rokem

      I have thought about that, but I don't have a treadmill, and the noise of the treadmill would make talking impractical. I have done multiple videos demonstrating the technique with someone walking side by side videoing with the camera on a stabilizer so you can see the continuous movement without me going off the screen.

      @@ToddMartinMD Thank you for your response. Up until now I've had to hold onto the handrails of my treadmill to maintain balance (walking 4 to 5 kph), but since watching some of your relevant videos, I can now walk confidently without holding the rails...Thank you! You could record the treadmill scenes without sound then do a voice over track describing your relevant movements/actions ie no background noise or breathing sounds.

    • @ToddMartinMD
      @ToddMartinMD  Před rokem

      I’m glad the lessons have been helpful. I have considered that option for a treadmill video but opted for having someone film me walking from the side. I do think there are plenty of videos on the channel showing continuous walking that doing a treadmill would be duplicative. Plus, as I said, I don’t have a treadmill.

      @@peterward6625 Treadmill walking tends to significantly shorten the stride; surely it is a special case inasmuch one does not need to focus on surroundings while doing it because one is not actually moving (losing the benefits of mental and physical exertion done together). Also, treadmills tend to be used with an incline nowadays.

    • @peterward6625
      @peterward6625 Před rokem

      I agree that treadmill walking is different to normal walking in certain aspects as most people that I know use the treadmill for jogging or running. While I walk outdoors in the morning, at night I use the treadmill and also if the weather isn't good for outdoor walking. I agree you can end up with a shortened stride unless you choose to lengthen your stride. Effectively, a motorised treadmill "forces" you to walk at the speed and incline set which I find assists my outdoor walking pace and now, observing the techniques imparted by Dr Martin.

    From the 3nd tip think of the begining of the step as when the movement to bring the heel down is _initiated_ you don't believe it is helpful to try and consciously relate the heel of the rear foot begining to lift to noticing the heel of the front foot starting to actually contact the ground?

    • @ToddMartinMD
      @ToddMartinMD  Před rokem +3

      I really want people to focus on the movement from the core as they walk. Using the heel lift timing can be a secondary point of reference to test if you are doing it correctly. The timing would be that the rear heel begins to lift as you rotate the core to begin the next step. By the time the forward heel touches, the rear heel should already be fully lifted.

    What the people with Bowed leg?

    • @ToddMartinMD
      @ToddMartinMD  Před měsícem

      It’s hard to say for people with bow legs because that means the gait has been bad for so long them at the whole body structure has changed to accommodate it. There is a study that says people who are bow legged can decrease knee strain by walking more duck footed. I don’t recommend that for most people, but there is a steady showing that might be helpful. It is difficult to walk with normal technique once the whole structure has been changed.
