Actually a very entertaining video just because of your personality - love it! And wow you build some creative furniture. Wish I had that type of imagination!
I've owned a "Husky" 350 for 13 years....cut 4-5 cord of heater wood annually..Jan-March. Replaced plug once; bar once, and chain twice...great working saw! Thanks 4 your tips!
Very nice. It's good to know that some peaple still take care of there saws I recently bought a shihl 021 the guy who had it sead it did not run right (stalled out randomly) he wanted 20 buck naught it clean about 5 lbs of sawdust and oil off of it (mostly behind the pull start cover) and now it runs fine has way more power and an all together good saw
Thank you. Good video. •please show good saw cleaning for those of us who don't have an air compressor. •thanks for showing that aerosol can. And stating that it works well. (My sales resistence gets even stronger when I see the "AS SEEN ON TV" label. I don't trust many of those companies. So it's good to know you like that product.) •I'm an old guy, still pruning trees, cutting firewood, etc. So I asked my hearing aid guy for a decible number as a guide. How high to protect my hearing. I found some Remington earmuffs at a big sporting good store in Sparks, Nevada. It's not quite up to the decibel number I was given. But it's the best protection I have had since the 1970s. •I have frequently bought little chain saw accessories through the years. They have come in very handy at times. The best one is the groove cleaner for the bar. It is better than a screwdriver because it really reaches the bottom of the groove. AND it has straight or parallel sides, meaning they don't taper like a screwdriver. You want something that also scrapes the sides of the groove as well. Stihl has a nice metal one, and Husqvarna has a durable plastic one. •a stump vise very valuable tool. Even if you don't drive it into a stump or log, it can be useful on a work bench for supporting the saw bar. It ads a bit of stability, like a bi-pod on a rifle barrel. •I don't have an air compressor so I use the small nozzle on a WD-40 can to blast gunk out of corners and tight places. •Or, I use a pump spray bottle, set on narrow stream, to clean the saw's little nooks and crannies. The fluid in the bottle is rubbing alcohol. This stuff is moderately effective on grease, but very effective for removing tree sap from tools and your hands. •don't forget to grease the bearings in your bar tip. Bearings need a little maintenance to continue running well. My brother has a big brand saw that no longer puts a greasing hole in their saw bars. His eventually exploded. But the saw company doesn't mind. Now they sold another expensive bar! (I tried to get him to replace the bar with a good brand bar that fit his saw. Then he could grease it and know the bearings were cared for. But he wouldn't do it. We will see how long the new bar lasts.) I was glad to see a Husqvarna saw in this video. Jonsered saws are another fine brand.
A tip I can give you, don´t blow the air filter wit compressed air. The preassure throught the filter destroys it and the smallest particles of dirt will go straight through and into the saw. Instead you should take it off and clean it in hot water and some soap. This is how I keep my airfilter nice and clean. Cause if you use the saw every day it´s important that it works correctly. But everyone does it their own way. Hope you like the advice :) Glad to see someone take care of their saw :]
Jesus Jim anyone suggest a tripod? Waving the camera around made me nauseous had to end at 1:51 and I’m always eager to learn but I’ll have to find cleaning tips somewhere else. Good luck to you
Good job and it's close to what i do every time i finish cutting with it .. I use a bristle brush also along with a spray cleaner for the cases... Last thing i do is remove 4 screws and pull the starter cover assy, now i do that every other month.. Gives me a chance to check starter rope , lube recoil sprocket and look for wear...The other thing i check is between the cooling fins for wood chips and sawdust with some wood that has a lot of pitch in it , sawdust hits that area which is glowing red almost under full power , ya it melt on the spot and there it is ..Yes a person should do the starter side every other month at least i'm told and the owners book says that too depending on amount of use.. but the dealer tells me almost no one does ...funny
What causes wear on the clutch sprocket? I wore mine down after 30 chords of wood, (Pretty deep grooves at that) and thinking that I may be doing something wrong with my adjustments.
Caused by burrs on bottom of chain usually but also debris and dirt will grind it up but anything out of place over time avalanches every bit of maintenance counts flip bars correct depth and proper usage and any mistakes causing unusual wear on chains u would have to give extra attention to little things become bigger over time and so much room for error that it's easy to neglect and not see problems coming
I have found that using two types of brushes works best and qwikest. 1st I use a barrel style parts cleaner stiff nylon bristle brush and stab at all thehatd to clean places especially in the cooling fins it works like a charm!! ;-) then I'll qwikly grab my old trusty dusty sqaure head paint brush which has softer bristles and will knock away most to all smaller pieces of oil and dust etc?..thos dude don't know what in@the fuck he's doing a t all. Go hog go WPS!
Ok as an owner of a Stihl and long term user of the Huski in the field for over 35 years I feel qualified to comment. The Stihl is a far superior tool in so far as its design and compactnes, weight and ballance. It certainly does a very effecient job. However. It can prove to be tempremental and needs precise setting up in order to run, something that all but extreemly experienced users would probably should not attempt in the field durring their lunch break. However, the huski heavier and bulkier can be stripped down , cleaned , serviced and put back together in a half hour lunch breaak by a relative newby and most likely continue to run all afternoon. So which is the better tool?
Well,dear sir.I think you are very good,obviously.And,that is interesting furniture,you have.But,let's be honest.Ain't no $4,200.00 table.Have a good one,Mr.Wizard.
Geat vid. Stay away from Stihl 261. My Stihl 261 broke down after only 3 years of cutting firewood. Stihl said it was my fault because I didnt use the Stihl oil and alcylat gasoline! 026 was a much more robust saw and I had one for allmost 20 years and used shell oil and 95 gas mixed 2%. Not happy with the Stihl 261 and Stihl support.Warranty dont count if you dont use Stihls own oil or alcylatgas
i take my filtre off to use compressed air then i choke the sa w the butterflys are closed then use compressed air around the carabrator. i also use a u sed hacksawblade. and go from the sproket tip back toward you to remove oily sawdust from the grove in the bar
What I would add: Take ALL of the covers off first. Do this outside on the tailgate of your truck. (Do you want to track the gunk chunks everywhere?) Clean off any built-up pine pitch with turpentine.
Its good to take the whole starter/recoil setup off and clean the centrifugal air intake system. If thats clean it will pull more clean air for the saw.
nancyboybv bullshit !!!! I’m a mechanic with 35 years experience ,I’ve used a compressor and blower daily blowing parts I’ve cleaned, blown air directly on my skin up close 1000 times in fact I’ve cleaned my hands with it 1000 Times and I haven’t had any air bubble in my blood ..LMAO . YOU SKIN IS THICKER THAN THAT. Keep it away from eyes and ears is all .
Yeah i believe this dude i live in Canada rented a house off a old dude named greg from Washington people said he was an artist he had a house in the states a house in canada and he was building another house on the property we were renting 100 acres too apparently buddy sells wood art for 10gs a piece like thats fucked house is very nice made it himself
Running an air compressor can get loud. I wear safety ear muffs when running one. In this case, it could also possibly keep the dirt out of his ears. I found the video very helpful. Time to clean 3 saws. Thanks for the tutorial.
please don't take this personal. No damn way.I guess this ok with you?Sorry my friend.Congrades on the money.Idon't know myself. It's real nice. But,that is nothing but too scary,to be real.
Well, Jim, it's good stuff. I've never thought to use an air compressor on my saws. Worked great, so thanks. Here's some questions: Regular or premium gas? How old before gasoline is no good for a chain saw? My saws call for 50:1 oil ratio but I always fudge a little and add just a teeny bit extra for good measure. Good or bad? Also, I always refresh the edges of the chains with a file with each new use. Your thoughts?
www.adirondackrusticfurniture.com/ good ideas... my stuff doesn't always come out straight nor do I want it straight but good ideas and welcomed criticisms. THANKS for posting. #jimthepilot www.jimthepilot.com/ Instagram @flyjimthepilot www.kittycot.com/ Instagram @originalkittycot
NOT FOR PEOPLE WITH MOTION SICKNESS! Jim why don't you ask someone to do the camera work...an assistant? It is not that difficult to teach anyone older then 5 and you will have decent results. You have lots to teach, but this is not the way of doing it....sorry! You could also adjust shot by shot on a tripod and edit it afterwards on you computer.
Patrick J. Boening nobody wants to hang around with me in my shop and I hate editing videos... I just video things and stuff and put it up on CZcams and get all kinds of comments from people like you and that's ok with me... Thanks for watching and thanks for your input as I do appreciate it seriously!!!
+Patrick J. Boening you're right :) great vid but I got headache following it. What about a simple Tripod? mabye just a DIY one :) made of wood and whatever
Took 10 minutes to show us how to use an air nozzle when you could have said "use an air nozzle" in 10 seconds! You're assuming everybody who owns a chainsaw also has an air compressor - NEWS FLASH, I don't! And for goodness sake, leave the camera on the tripod.
I normally despise how-to videos whether they're informative or not but thumbs up for keeping it brief and to the point.
thanks for your honest reply
You could have saved me 10 minutes and just say to use compressed air!
Pro trick: watch movies on Flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching a lot of movies these days.
@Chaim Gael definitely, I've been watching on flixzone for since november myself :D
What does the fuel filter look like in your Husqvarna chainsaw?

What do you recommend for an air compressor?
Thank you Jim. Very informative and helpful.
thanks
What is the model of your air compressor? it works great
great vid, very informative
brake cleaner works pretty good for getting the sawdust off. I don't use it on the air breather though
Wonder if anyone fell for it?
Thank you. Good video.

oh my gosh !!!! I'm sOoOoOoOo DiZzY
What causes wear on the clutch sprocket? I wore mine down after 30 chords of wood, (Pretty deep grooves at that) and thinking that I may be doing something wrong with my adjustments.
Maybe the chain is too tight and or no oil is getting to the chain...
I do remember one year the oil line was clogged. Thank you for your thoughts.

good god that's hilarious. "....don't even own a chainsaw." that's amazing.
I have a chainsaw that needs cleaning and really dont want to watch the whole thing.... can you come clean mine
Francis Xavier Urrutia II i guess he's famous.
You're no alone! :)
Do you take the spark plug out each time you clean?
usually or buy new one
Loved it.. You're a natural, keep it up.

How about you make a video on how to cleqn this for people without an air hose?
thanks Jim, I used this video to explain to my missus the absolute necessity of investing in a shop compressor!
Fantastic 👍 and it's an old video. I'm not as shaky on the camera now LOL
SHE ALSO NEEDS TO DO A BETTER JOB ON HER MAKEUP
THis was great...he's funny...but did anyone get dizzy watching it? anyway...all good...

Good to run a thin scraper in the bar to knock out the debris air doesn't always get it all out
I’ve Been wanting to get a 350 for a while
Its good to take the whole starter/recoil setup off and clean the centrifugal air intake system. If thats clean it will pull more clean air for the saw.
Did you know in the center of the clutch you can grease the clutch bearing
Nope I didn't
K how does this helps for people who doesn't have air compressor
Just blow --for a very long time --thru a very narrow straw.
improvise....
t dub stuff bristled brush is what I use.
What PSI do you have your compressor set at?
John Crabb 120 lbs
Thanks for such a quick reply. I enjoyed your video.
Jim Howard I like watching your videos
Thanks
Nice!
big one... upright and can't remember. got it from Grizzley Tools
I don't have an air hose Jim!!
P.S. Replaced of course a few pull cords and a couple recoil springs..
no problems waTching it
Thanks for the introduction of how to clean the chainsaw with air-nose nozzle!
It's me,
Sule Shangodoyin.
Dont shoot high pressure air into your chain oiler! I prefer to use a stiff paint brush and kerosene to clean inside the clutch cover
Good idea 👉👍
That's not a dirty chainsaw, that's a dusty one! lol
Darn right. I'm dirty, it's dusty. We're both a MESS!!!
Compressed air for everything. Thanks for the vid. :)
I am sure this could be a good video but please get a tri-pod.
Safety Tip only, never use air to blow dust off skin, can cause air bubble in your blood stream and kill you. Good video
nancyboybv thats true I was told that the first day in shop
I know! N hes just spraying his face with air n no gloves when cleaning the bar!
you're joking right?
Also was told the same thing in the shop

I'm really not sure why one would wear ear muffs doing what you do. If you're running the saw, OK, but....
i dont know either. but hes been wearing them for years lol

Get yourself a camera operator
If you don't have a compressor Gunk engine cleaner gets it done.
Blowing air does not equal cleaning.

Slow the camera movement down. Get a camera operator.

Jeezzzzz, I'd had to take a Dramamine tablet to watch this video.
Blowing compressed air on yourself is dangerous and stoopid.
Spelling STUPID -("STOOPID") is STUPID!
And Stoopidly Dangerous
Dam ur getting me dizzy hold camera more steady
Best way to clean saw is a paint brush & some gasoline
Tdrex820 Mineral spirits would be a safer solvent to use, the fumes are less explosive.
The air noise hurts my ears.. please do better next time . I can’t keep watching . SC Navy vet.
You still have HEARING???
Dude takes way to long
make a video shorter and better than me then LOL
buy a stihl much more easy to clean and a better saw huskys are shit

Pretty much do what I want, when I want, how I want. 👉😂
if you have this much issues with it its honestly just quicker and easier for you to click the next video
If you can not have help with the camera, you probably should wait for producing the video. It was horribly enjoying to watch.
I wait for nothing. No one helps me. i had a blast making it and your end comment says it all. Thanks 👉👍👌
Sorry but u CAN BE MORE PROFESSIONAL if ur posting a video to much talking and messing around
Thanks Jim
