Very helpful video! Many thanks for uploading this. I have a similar problem on a MY2005 Opel Astra H GTC 1.8 Cosmo edition (Z18XE motor) with ECC (Electronic Climate Control).
With A/C functions set to auto (auto cabin vents position/direction and auto blower fan speed) i hear a squealing noise which comes from the blower. The noise is not always continuous, some times it stops by itself, some times i have to manually adjust fan speed via the rotary knob to 1 or 0 position, and then noise stops. I 'm almost sure that noise comes from the cabin blower bearings. I 'm also almost sure that in my case the blower still functions in all positions and not like yours only in position 4. From the center display i see that my blower fan has 6 operating positions (0 and 1 - 6) that can be adjusted neither automatically by ECC (the higher or lower temperature desired, the higher or lower fan position is automatically selected) or manually by rotating the knob.
My question is, do i have to change also the resistor, like you did, or not? (i think not in my case, because my blower fan seems to be operating in all positions, right?).
If so, it seems that i have to replace only the blower motor by itself. According to my car's VIN, correct part number for blower motor is GM 93185199 (which costs in Greece around 300 euros!) or for equivalent (OEM), Delphi TSP0545015 or similar (cost of about 60 euros). Can you confirm that the above part number for blower motor is correct in my case? Thanks a lot.

Would you have any advice on how to test a blower motor? Speed 1-3 stopped (so resistor ..) then 4 died as well. Trying to figure if both parts are dead

Hi nice video, it helped me a lot so far! However, i have a slite different problem... I my case, it's not the blower itself that is broken, but the valve on top of it. the spike on the motor that moves the valve has broken, so the valse is not closing properly and it can't blow the hot air. So my problem is that i can't find this part of the blower... anywhere i search for this part, i only find the blower itself! Can you please help me...? Thanks a lot!

Here is a tricky one for you. I've replaced both the resistor and blower fan, and it still doesn't work.
It started as a problem that came and went. Driving over bumps might de-or activate it. Power to the system did not seem fluid, and now it is all gone. All fuses are OK.
Quick sidequestion: Can I disconnect the wires coming from the fan, bypass them through my own switch and fuse without a resistor to the battery? Or does that sound unsafe?
So first of all i would recommend to check with a voltmeter if the fan gets any power. Maybe a cable or a printed circuit board is broken.
So on the fan should stand the data it needs to work properly. Of course you can build your own power supply system if you have the knowledge. I would use a Potentiometer instead of a normal switch and test your system at home first. I mean it is only a fan and not something electric very complicated. It's like a lamp. it needs a certain electric energy E_el=U*I to work. So you can build a small electric power supply and run the fan separate from the system which is build in the car. If you need help with that you can question me.
So what you can't make is just bypass them and fuse without a resistor to the battery.
Sweet, I will test the wires going to the fan while ignition is ON, and turn on different speeds to see if any of them give power. Also, should I disconnect the wires to measure the resistance in fan alone, just to be sure? I did buy it from a breakers yard of a 08- Astra, and mine is a 05-. The electrical problem could've taken the life of the replacent.
I would highly recommend to check the fan too. I am hopeful it's "only the fan" or some broken cable.

Hi guys! I tried to change the resistor. When I tried the fan whit the new one, it started to go but the resistor got hot and it started to smoke. What do you think might be the problem?

How did you remove the 6 cables? I got the red and black separate ones but I cannot get the bundle. Thanks
The bundle is locked by 2 plastic Clips which have to be pressed together with a bit force.

i have a probleme when i try putting the fan at any speed nothing happens i changed the resistor and still nothing can u help me?
Maybe the fan is damaged or something else. Check the electronic components with an ammeter/voltmeter. Start with the cable coming from the power supply to the resistor. Then you know which component might be damaged and should be replaced. It can be the printed circuit board which provides the fan with electricity, some cable, the fan or some contact not connecting properly.

Do I need to take the battery wire off just to change the resistor
Just don't touch the resistor with the ground- any metal part of the car, in this case will comute instantly to speed 7 without to broke anything.

is the resistor just for the fans different speeds?
I think it is just for the blower fan but i can't tell you for sure
