As an adult now, I only go see my Neurosurgeon if I have a problem. For example, I've been experiencing over drainage for the past three years of Yardley, and just had my son suggested yesterday. And I follow up with him on May 24th for x-rays.

I'm 29 and have been suffering from the same headache for over 9 years now. I have a neurosurgeon but she refuses to believe anything is wrong and won't see me. My last revision was when I was six. Nothing helps with the pain and my headache pain just keeps growing. It's been the same one since the first day it spiked and went out of control. I have many symptoms but they are very small the most noticeable is my never ending headache. I'm pretty sure I'm over draining. I've had cat scans in the past show that I have had like no CSF on my brain or at least that is what the emergency Dr.'s have said but then they just send me home. I've also had a c-spine x-ray and it said that my tubing couldn't be seen along it's distal course in my neck and I don't even know what that means but nothing has been done in regards to that either. :'(. I just want my headache to go back to what it use to be. I don't want to be in pain any more 24/7 day and night. I've lost so much because of this never ending headache. Please HELP!!!!

Thank you for your comments on this topic. Perhaps you could offer advice on how we might manage our experience. My daughter is 27, with the last revision in Pennsylvania when she was 7 and now lives in Arizona. We contacted the office of a local Neurosurgeon associated with one of the best Neurological facility in the State. The office stated they only schedule appointments for those with active symptoms and refused to schedule an appointment for her. I asked if they could refer us to a Neurologist for monitoring, and was told they would not provide that information. Your advice seems logical and is appreciative, but this is not the first time we've been told that the Neurosurgeon is interested in participating in her care.

Our healthcare system is messed up. Clearly your daughter has a chronic condition and shunts should be monitored for yearly checksups. What are those fools expecting you to do?! Go to the ER in the event of a malfunction? I would recommend calling again and getting a different representative who will refer you to neurosurgery. The rep you are talking to now seems grossly irresponsible.

I wonder if shunt is affected by altitude. I'm 75, live in Denver at 5280 ft. and shunt has been recommended for my NPH. Most of my life I noticed I felt considerably and immediately different at different altitudes. and functioned better at different altitudes than Denver and Salt Lake where I went to middle school. Maybe I always had some NPH but what should I expect if I get a shunt because I am considering sea-level move? My whole life I've taken many naps; recently they finally looked at my immunologic factors and said I might have Sjogren's. Syndrome. My remaining teeth were extracted when I was 68 despite getting several dental cleanings per year. But big thing was I was tormented with itching for past two years (which began in my scalp) until I got Dupixent injections which have helped me feel 400% better. I was near choosing assisted death from itching and sleeplessness scalp and skin irritation caused. A Punch biopsy showed I had eczema and recent MRI which was ordered due to severe gait issues I’ve had over past two years indicated possible NPH.

unrelated to the video but i am 38 with hydrocephalus and i'm wondering if a woman with this condition should still undergo a hysterectomy. wouldn't the operation interfere with the shunt tube? i was scheduled for one but this issue came up during the consultation with the gyno

I have very bad damage to my spinal cord. As my hands will twitch on there own. Have problems with body temperatures and my feet will jump up and down. He said I was going to get worse but I didn't want to hear it at the time. This is a old injury catching up with me. How fast will the problems progress?
