In this episode Tia shows how to glue her thumbs :p Algae very common in early stages don't worry! Can find this all in on aquarium here www.reefcasa.com
Tank is looking amazing. The rock work is amazing. Great job Tia. I wouldn’t have thought the snails would touch the brown algae at all. Cannot wait to see the progression of this tank 🙏
I dose silicates to keep dinos away. Diatoms is the main competitor for the same area. Diatoms are the basic fundamental for filter feeders and sponges so they are a basic for a reef, that is why they are in every cycle of a tank. I dose enough to have it there but not bloom. I have used all 3 and I hate the one that Tia was using, the flipper is the best because it is super thin to get by the scape and are super powerful. I use those small razor blade scraper that a lot of freshwater tanks people use, they work great and are small enough to get into tight spaces.
Just ordered my studio 12 can’t wait to get it and set it up thinking Of building the aqua scape rt out of the tank and adding a mangrove can’t wait guys finally a tank made by reefers for reefers !!!!!!!!
I use the tunze scraper with the two plastic blades. the lifted center prevents it from trapping sand. i also use the metal wand scrapers for toughter stuff like coraline.
I always use the handheld scraper that usually used in FW aquascape. Its give me more control & more satisfying to cleaning your glass. Have a flipper but seldomly use it. 😆
I love the Tunze scrapers. I use my big one and nano one with the plastic blades to keep the glass safe from scratches. I also have a long skinny metal scraper from Amazon to get into the corners
I use a flipper, blade side only. Used the abrasive pad side a couple time and got a couple scratches, def user error, I thought I was being careful but you need next level care to ensure not a single bit of anything is stuck in it to prevent scratches.
I use a flipper for the glass and a simple sponge for the corners to avoid damaging the silicone. I also use a regular scraper for the overflow box/back glass.
@@fragboxcorals yes. I like the option of having a pad as well as a scraper. But to be fair I’ve never tried the Tunze so who’s to say I won’t like that one more 🤷🏽♀️
I use a handheld Flipper Platinum as well as the magnetic Flipper Float. I got the cheaper Platinum first for general cleaning knowing that I would eventually get a magnetic scraper. Now that I have both, I use the Float (blade side only) for cleaning the glass, and the Platinum for cleaning the overflow box and raking the sand. As a long-handled tool, I also use it to flip snails over in the sand.
Glad to see it's not just me who can't use TUNZE scrapers as everyone else seems to love them. I keep a scraper on every tank which works out at around 20 ish scrapers so I have to keep the costs down & find the old fashioned economical but effective MAG-FLOATs work fine.
Granted, I’m barely into the second week of cycling my first tank, but I think my flipper’s pretty cool. I’ve been using the non-scraper side primarily, but didn’t know there were even concerns about the scraper. My tank’s an AIO style, and I haven’t figured out what to use to scrap the back panel.
I use flipper for a quick clean, I love the Aquarium Magic Sponge for a more through clean during water changes and good old razor blades for the stubborn algae!
I use a magfloat with the blade on my reef tank and another one without a blade on a freshwater tank, one thing with the magfloat blade is it easily bends and gets out of shape so I’m always prying it flat again
I had a flipper and it wasn’t doing the job. My problem with it is it didn’t take the calcium deposits at the sand line off. Now I’m using the Tunze and I love it. They do float, because it has a piece of foam on each side.
Long handle scraper, due to my tight aquascape, long handle makes it easier to get that first layer of sand close to the glass where algae and dyno tends to creep up
I always use the flipper float for the daily glass cleaning. But for the regular maintenance i use the aquamedic scraper, it’s a large very sharp window cleaner. If i get algea on the background it falls off on it’s own when i pick up the scraper 🤣
I use the Tunze Nano with plastic blades in my fluval evo. Work's great, but it does have a strong magnet which can be a bit of a pain. And it doesn't float so if you drop it you're gonna have to get your arm wet to retrieve.
@@artistic_spaz3724 have u turned all the flow off for at least a few hours after u add them? Also addding some phyto in small doses (with no flow) after adding the pods so they aren’t just eating the diatoms? Do u have anything in the tank yet or is it just rock and sand? Do u have the light on also? If yes to the light perhaps turning the light off as it may be algae growing in the tank with nothing to eat the algae?
@@fragboxcorals I’ll have a search for it over the next couple days 😊 I may have misunderstood or misheard, but I thought that diatoms were one of the things the copepods helped with 🥰
What's the purpose of starting a skimmer in a new tank when you have no fish I don't really think that skimmer is going to do anything right off the bat
I use Eheim long handle scrapper. The right length for my cube and you can get different accessories ends like brush or sponge. way better then Tunze magnets i have one and hate it too, it moves way too much water inside when scrapping(weird reason i know) :)
Flipper but the replacement blades are a hit and miss as in the blades are always straight. I got a new blade where one side was hitting the glass and the other was not touching it. The cost of the replacement blades can be expensive. I think it’s $20 or so for the max blades. I have a nano flipper and I think I paid $13. Also I’m using this nano on a 75g. I really need to get something bigger and a different brand then the flipper.
I have a question, I hope one of the people finally answer. I had green hair algae in my 75gal saltwater aquarium. I have pulled all rocks out. I have scrubbed them clean. I have washed them in water and bleach bath (4water to 1 bleach) soaked them in fresh water/bleach for 8 hours, turning and shaking until no more bubbles released. Rinsed each individually the same turn and shake method with fresh tap water. After rinsing, I left them to dry for 24 hours, then set them all out and washed with my pressure washer. Resoaked in fresh water for another 12 hours and now they are left out to dry. When should they be safe to outback un my tank? Should I soak then in a brine solution? Plain water? If so…how long do I soak before they won’t bea hazard? Thanks
@@CalcioFan4Ever ok, I will for next round, but I’ve gotten it off the rock, now I need to know how long to soak them is salted roti water, since I used bleach in the cleaning process.

this is my same preferred method
Yeah and now they come with foam so they do float. I just switched to Tunze and it’s so much better than my flipper.

Hey Gaz thanks for your input!
I had the mag float for a 25 Gal and after 6 months the Velcro was gone and it was pooched. I use a handheld scrapper now and it’s much more efficient
really? My velcro is still mostly fine, but it is getting a bit worn out. The blade attachment on mine has a curve to it for some reason.
Still looks good
I use a magfloat with a blade on the reef tank, and just some generic without a blade on the freshwater :)

Lots of people let it ride, but I use a long handled scraper on mine.
The small round magnet cleaner from innovative marine is absolutely amazing.
Idk why, but it's a fantastic cleaner for everyday algae buildup on glass

Flipper for me

Are these aquariums gonna be able to purchase in the uk?
Flipper or a hand scraper if it’s really stubborn.
The white blue one she's using w the handle and a flipper.
I use a mixture of scrapers... Main scraper a mag float... But also use a hand one that you can use an old debit card with also or buy new cards
Is this tank the same dimensions as the Studio 12 that's being sold now? It looks so big!
This is the studio 12 yes
What are the sizes available for purchase in store now? Thanks in advance ☺️
Tunze care magnet with the float kit 👍

I use the magnafloat! I really like it but it’s tough to get the hard water stains off of my glass. (My tank is suffering from high kH) any tips?
Been using flipper but recently just tried out Tunze. Seems the Tunze cleans a bit better without the “skipping” effect.
Would you say you prefer tunze ?
@@fragboxcorals so far I think I enjoy Tunze better. Only disadvantage I am seeing is the hump on the Tunze vs the flipper does not have one.
