- The Jackson family's middle daughter grew up within the complicated world of showbiz. Overshadowed by her famous brother's and lacking any sense of achievement or identity of her own, La Toya was destined to tread a difficult path towards personal freedom.
However La Toya's personal story of abuse, manipulation and exploitation is often overshadowed by those more famous in the public eye. This series sorts to reveal the intimate details of La Toya Jackson's tragic past, very public rebellion and eventual redemption.

Love this narrator !!
He has such a soothing voice.
LaToya was so beautiful..she really should’ve been a model
I agree
Facts
Yes! 😍 But modeling is a hard life too. Lots of travel, long hours, creepy men out to take advantage of their business influence. It might've been more dangerous to her mental health and body image than a music career… 😕
@@crnkmnky it’s just that she wasn’t a singer and she needed to find her own path…everybody in the family didn’t have to be a star
She has modeled. Maybe she didn't make it because she wasn't willing to sleep her way to the top ? Who knows.
Her ex husband even threatened to get both Michael and Janet killed cause he had mafia connections and he was gonna kill La Toya until she finally escaped him by calling her family that man was pure evil this would have ended up being a tragic story for the Jackson family.
Yeah right ! Jack and Latoya were behind everything. If Jack was sooo bad, why was she trying to have his baby ??? People will believe anything.
I Didn't know about this part of jackson family... thanks for sharing this with us👍😉

Latoya's ex husband is dead now, I don't remember the year, but it's been a while ago.
I’m glad you have chosen to highlight La Toya’s story in full. She took so many years of abuse from Jackson fans over the years during the Jack Gordon years. And I bet none of those fans had a clue how she was manipulated and abused. Her excellent memoir ‘Startin’ Over’ is a tough, uncomfortable read and I felt truly sorry for what she went through. I hope she’s happier nowadays.
she was an adult getting manipulated is no exuse for backstabbing
In an alternate universe I would like to think she kept away from the knife, controlling men, and music and took modeling and acting classes instead. She could’ve been the Tyra Banks or Halle Berry of the family
I agree , she should of gotten into modeling or acting!
Because a music career is not for everybody

@@ginaclame20 maybe modeling I don't know know about acting still need talent for that.
Latoya just went down the bad path when she met that husband. She would have not been the black sheep if that didn't happen. Still,LaToya remained a big fan...In 1984, she recorded a cover of his song "Private Joy". It wasn't received well lol
She also mentions this in her memoirs and talks about a meeting at a skating rink and she talks about how she just couldn't get over how short he was. It makes sense because LaToya's look at that time just screams Prince...he was definitely into the kind of women that looked like her!
@@TheZakiya .. couldn’t get over how short he was lol.
LaToya's story is gut-wrenching... makes me respect her more.
Also, to understand why she did what she did.
I think all three of the Jackson sisters are very beautiful ladies, but La Toya was always the one that stood out to me and had a huge crush on. 😍 She was such a cutie back in the day and still look amazing today, despite the challenges that she has faced throughout her life and career. I have both, her debut and sophomore album. They were pretty good in my opinion.👌🏾 I'm definitely looking forward to watching part 2 of the La Toya Jackson series. 🤗 Great job as always The Detail. 👍🏾
Being the middle child myself, I can kinda relate to Latoya. Misunderstood, shy, reclusive and quiet. I feel like, toya got the short end of the stick when it came to the talent department. Although, she had real potential, I don’t think she had the right ppl around her to put her on a pedestal, ESPECIALLY her estranged narcissistic ex-husband who never had her best interest at heart from the start !
Go Toya
I get it / (something)
She only married him to get away from joe and katherine.
They should’ve let Latoya be a lawyer. She probably would’ve been happy and fulfilled.
I don’t think Latoya was jealous of Michael. after all, she never wanted a musical career in the first place. she never would have suffered so much had she been allowed to pursue her own dreams. having said that, I think ‘hot potato’ and ‘think twice’ were well produced songs. she also had talent for songwriting, which she won a Grammy for.

Only Jackson siblings that would have had a big music career besides Michael and Janet would have been Jermaine and Rebbie I never really saw it for La Toya she did had a little potential though.
@@pixie77531 cuz she stay outta tha way
same i never saw it i could see la toya being a model but not a artist
Honestly Jermaine is definitely 3rd behind Janet and Michael, as he had a pretty good run of hits in the 80s himself, and as an accomplished songwriter and producer for himself and other artists. He had some hot jams that got heavy airplay on RnB radio...and is one of the key people responsible for the start of Whitney Houstons career...he produced for her very early projects. His songs were the bomb though, I don't think people really give Jermaine his flowers...and he's an incredible bass player and musician!! People forget it was Jermaine's music that was hittin on urban radio before Janet really took off.
I love the detail (no corny pun inteded 😄) on this subject. Most people just like to scandalize Toya's story and make it about the crazy stuff she did. But she is a very interesting Jackson for sure and I cant wait for the follow up videos!
There’s SO many distinct things about La Toya that could’ve took her so far had she not been so naive & under that crazy man’s control! 1)Her distinct buttery soft voice(Ultra feminine) combined with her incredibly distinct beauty (especially in the late 80’s ) could’ve opened ANY acting 🎥 door in Hollywood based off of her beauty alone, particularly her gorgeous svelte figure, easily memorable speaking voice, great sense of personal style, jet black hair, etc. All of which make for an A list actor! 🎥 🎞 🍿 ✨ She could’ve made her own lane as the blockbuster “acting Jackson” if only she had ambition/ a true vision for her career & leveraging her social network of just about everyone in Hollywood. When she posed for Playboy, she stared that safe wanted to work in feature films alongside Sylvester Stallone. Something easily achievable! As opposed to just going with the flow and doing what she was told. The naïveté of a sheltered, religious upbringing can cost someone a lifetime of opportunities.
I hear ya but in 1989 Latoya Jackson was 33 years old. I’m not being sexist or rude but she was considered kind of old by the entertainment industry’s standards . So I don’t know what kind of “Real” opportunities were really there for Latoya Jackson at that age in Hollywood with no formal acting training or previous TV shows experience. Just saying
@@ST-nz4bf 2 things. 1) Black women in their 30’s are generally perceived to be much younger than their white counterparts. And don’t physically age at the same rate. This extends to the entertainment industry as well- where a popular black A-List actress career longevity is usually longer because the look younger. Gabrielle Union, Halle Berry, and Stacey Dash are examples. Also take Grace Jones…who was in numerous blockbuster films as a leading lady in the 80’s- when she was almost 40. 🤯 2) When your brother is LITERALLY the (unprecedented) most famous person of all time…opportunities throw themselves at you. Nepotism? There were several high profile opportunities she turned down due to her scum manager/ex husband. La Toya was extremely attractive- and could’ve leveraged her beauty/popularity at the time Into a huge acting career. Depending on the role, it’s a skill that can easily be acquired. If she desired it. The sky was truly the limit for her with her beauty alone (whether surgically enhanced or not)
@@ST-nz4bf well tina turner was much older and had great success with music and movies
@@kidano5317 I guess you made a valid point. Joe Jackson did keep a lot of the acting opportunities away from Latoya especially in the feature films. This was before the insane Jack Gordon years.
@@shawnhall9792 Sure Tina Turner had great resurgence in her music career in the mid 80’s as a solo act. But that success was mostly outside the US in Europe and especially in the UK. Also Tina Turner had a very big distinctive singing voice. No one ever Accused her of not being able to sing. BTW Tina Turner who I love has only been in 2 feature films. Just saying
Jack Gordon was an evil man! The beatings and mental torture he inflicted on Latoya was horrible!!..He made her do so many things just to line his own pockets, because he knew that if he got her away from her family he could profit largely by turning her against her own family in public!! She was locked in closets, beat, threatened until finally her family came up with an idea to rescue her from this man's evil clutches!! Randy Jackson went and rescued her..She was so terrified of Gordon because he apparently had ties with the Genovese mafia ( not sure if its true) but she believed it and knew he was capable of horrible things!! He even threatened to kill Michael and Janet, the guy was the devil!!
If that was to happen to Janet or Michael shit would hit the fan it would have been taken out on the streets!!!!

It's hard for me to believe that her and Michael had a close relationship. I can't picture that. She definitely was STUNNING. OMG!
Why is it hard to believe? You watched all the footage of them and how close and loving they were. Obviously there was the period where she went wayward but we know the reasons why now. But she was with him throughout his trial every single day. They were close.
Watch MJ unauthorised and you'll see for yourself.
No need to picture it because there's footage of them together in interviews etc
Oxe, eles eram irmãos kkkk pelo amor de Deus!
They did! I knew her in the early 80s because we co starred in a musical, along with her sister Janet and my sister Gloria. Through the months of rehearsals, some at my house , we got to know each other pretty well. She was terrified of her father snd even the trained to attack on sight guard dogs at the house. She adored Michael. And she was very shy at first, and afraid that people only liked her because of Michael. My sister and I told Janet and LaToya that we expressly did NOT want to meet Michael, because that has been the ulterior motive of many people who supposedly befriended them. That was the breakthrough that allowed us to be friends. But her family controlled her completely, and in our opening night, both Janet and LaToya were not allowed to perform, destroying the entire musical, the writers, producers, and other actors. It wasn't their fault, but it was devastating.
I love how Latoya looked back in the day... she is still a beautiful woman but back then... she was a sight to behold...
La Toya was fine as hell. Even before the surgery on her nose.

Yes, La Toya did that scream!
The irony of LaToya’s dissatisfaction with her first two albums is they are arguably, purely by default, her best albums. Papa Joe hired good producers and songwriters for them that were able to help her work within her vocal deficiencies.
"SO SAD AND SO 'SORRY' TO HEAR OBVIOUSLY ABOUT FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO LATOYA JACKSON THERE, BACK IN THE DAY, WITH FORMER HUSBAND MR GORDEN "ABUSING HER" IN HER 'MARRIGE TO HIM' AT THE TIME THEN."
