  • The Jackson family's middle daughter grew up within the complicated world of showbiz. Overshadowed by her famous brother's and lacking any sense of achievement or identity of her own, La Toya was destined to tread a difficult path towards personal freedom.
However La Toya's personal story of abuse, manipulation and exploitation is often overshadowed by those more famous in the public eye. This series sorts to reveal the intimate details of La Toya Jackson's tragic past, very public rebellion and eventual redemption.

I’m glad you have chosen to highlight La Toya’s story in full. She took so many years of abuse from Jackson fans over the years during the Jack Gordon years. And I bet none of those fans had a clue how she was manipulated and abused. Her excellent memoir ‘Startin’ Over’ is a tough, uncomfortable read and I felt truly sorry for what she went through. I hope she’s happier nowadays.

When she posed for Playboy, she stared that safe wanted to work in feature films alongside Sylvester Stallone. Something easily achievable! Gabrielle Union, Halle Berry, and Stacey Dash are examples. Also take Grace Jones…who was in numerous blockbuster films as a leading lady in the 80’s- when she was almost 40. 🤯 2) When your brother is LITERALLY the (unprecedented) most famous person of all time…opportunities throw themselves at you. Nepotism? There were several high profile opportunities she turned down due to her scum manager/ex husband. La Toya was extremely attractive- and could’ve leveraged her beauty/popularity at the time Into a huge acting career. Depending on the role, it’s a skill that can easily be acquired. Jack Gordon was an evil man! The beatings and mental torture he inflicted on Latoya was horrible!!..He made her do so many things just to line his own pockets, because he knew that if he got her away from her family he could profit largely by turning her against her own family in public!! She was locked in closets, beat, threatened until finally her family came up with an idea to rescue her from this man's evil clutches!! Randy Jackson went and rescued her..She was so terrified of Gordon because he apparently had ties with the Genovese mafia ( not sure if its true) but she believed it and knew he was capable of horrible things!! He even threatened to kill Michael and Janet, the guy was the devil!!

Her and Michael were so adorable during their teen years and their closeness was very endearing. Even though they went through things as siblings, it seems like in later years MJ forgave her. They did! I knew her in the early 80s because we co starred in a musical, along with her sister Janet and my sister Gloria. Through the months of rehearsals, some at my house , we got to know each other pretty well. She was terrified of her father snd even the trained to attack on sight guard dogs at the house. She adored Michael. And she was very shy at first, and afraid that people only liked her because of Michael. My sister and I told Janet and LaToya that we expressly did NOT want to meet Michael, because that has been the ulterior motive of many people who supposedly befriended them. That was the breakthrough that allowed us to be friends. But her family controlled her completely, and in our opening night, both Janet and LaToya were not allowed to perform, destroying the entire musical, the writers, producers, and other actors. It wasn't their fault, but it was devastating.
