I agree there. Lari certainly has lost so much. In real life, I honestly do not think a teenage boy would come out if he stood to loose so much. I know I did not dare come out at school. MissFin explained a long time ago that schooling works different in Finland and they enter H.S. at a later age than in America and graduate at 19. So I think Lari and co. are currently 16 or about to turn 16. They were 15 when the story started. So there is still quite a way to go.

We can disagree about that interpretation, that's fine, but this is how I see it. Elias is being patient with him, and I suspect the result will be rewarding and that Lari will eventually be completely self-accepting.
