Why are UFC fighters such bad analysts?

- Anthony Smith has drawn a lot of attention lately for his controversial takes and breakdowns of his own fights and especially his losses, so today I went down the rabbit hole and looked into the UFC fighters who double as voices of the sport and analysts/commentators and show you guys some of their lazy, uninspired, paycheck grabbing and shallow analysis of the sport that don't match their experience or supposed understanding whatsoever. This video covers Aljamain Sterling, Anthony Smith, Julianna Pena, Chael Sonnen, Brendan Schaub as well as highlighting some good current analysts like Paul Felder and Michael Chiesa.

One thing all the “bad” analysts have in common is they took a lot more damage than the “good” ones so could we say CTE has messed up their ability to analyze 🤔

Cejudo is the perfect example of obvious commentary. He says the most basic shit and then acts like he is the greatest mind in combat sports
Getting hit in the head for a living and being good at speaking generally arent compatible

A lot of MMA fighters are not fans. They dont know other fighters well at all. They don't watch MMA nearly as much as a hardcore fan. I think this is why.

I'm nowhere near an expert but my take is that in order to succeed in combat sports, you need to know your physique and it's capabilities, you need to know what strikes and grappling techniques works best for you, in other words you have to find your style.
But a lot of the time, fighters just find their style by a happy accident and they don't know why or how they do it, they just do it and do their best. Meanwhile, they're just thinking about how to use their weapon effectively but aren't thinking about what weapons other fighters have and how they use it and why they use it, alk that matters is that they win and when they fight, they're just in the zone.
So since they're so focused on training in their own way, they never analyzed how others train and why they do it.
Meanwhile, the most mid fighters ever have realized that their bodues and abilities are just ok and they tned to focus more on other fighters then become a coach or something.

Mighty Mouse and Kajan Johnson have excellent channels. They’re not very clued in on the roster but their fight breakdowns are legendary.

They all have a relative bias, they’ve spent by there lives practicing specific things so look for so they maybe carry those things into it, not only that but you hear coaches talk in very broad strokes too. It’s fair if they’re in camp and want to keep cards close to their chest but they do it when asked about a fight that has nothing to do with them. I love the kind of small details that the very good analysts can go in to, Luke Thomas tells of Max Holloway and his team asking him to stop breaking down his fights because he’s giving away his tricks. Chael is the king of talking loud and saying nothing.

they arent students of the game, they just fight; they dont really know how to analyze the game w/any sort of objectivity, their whole take is based on their personal experience instead of really breaking down styles approaches character technique concepts and strategies.. i have worked for ufc fighters bellator fighters rizin invicta fighters; an one of them told me, most these guys just fight they dont study the game..that why alot of them cant coach.. i helped king mo win rizin and worked w/claudia gadelha on her win v karolina...among others

Great video, wondering what you think of Joe Rogan and his fight analysis. He definitely is a lot of peoples first exposure to mma and while he has some biases, he seems to try to get into the nuances of the martial art world
I did a vid about the commentary including his biases if you haven’t seen that but yeah I gotta be honest, I like his podcast but his commentary is pretty stale repetitive and as you said biased especially with certain fighters
