The history of Gurudwara Shri Sant Ghat Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi is closely intertwined with the life of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism. During his early adulthood, Guru Nanak spent around 14 years in Sultanpur Lodhi, where he worked in the granary of Nawab Daulat Khan. It was during this time that he had a profound spiritual awakening and began his divine mission.
The ghat (steps leading to a riverbank) adjacent to the Bein river holds special significance in the history of this gurudwara. It is believed that Guru Nanak used to take his daily bath at this ghat in the holy Bein river. It was here that he would meditate and commune with the divine.
Legend has it that one day, after disappearing into the river for three days, Guru Nanak emerged with a divine message, proclaiming, "There is no Hindu, there is no Muslim." This divine revelation marked the beginning of his teachings that emphasized the oneness of humanity and the unity of all religions.
Over time, a gurudwara was established at this sacred site to commemorate Guru Nanak's spiritual experiences and teachings. Gurudwara Shri Sant Ghat Sahib stands as a symbol of Guru Nanak's enlightenment and continues to attract devotees from all over the world who come to pay their respects and seek spiritual solace.
ਸੁਲਤਾਨਪੁਰ ਲੋਧੀ ਦੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸੰਤ ਘਾਟ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਬਾਨੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਨਾਲ ਨੇੜਿਓਂ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੋਇਆ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤੀ ਜਵਾਨੀ ਦੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸੁਲਤਾਨਪੁਰ ਲੋਧੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਭਗ 14 ਸਾਲ ਬਿਤਾਏ, ਜਿੱਥੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਨਵਾਬ ਦੌਲਤ ਖਾਨ ਦੇ ਅਨਾਜ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੰਮ ਕੀਤਾ। ਇਹ ਇਸ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸੀ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਸਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਅਧਿਆਤਮਿਕ ਜਾਗ੍ਰਿਤੀ ਮਿਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਮਿਸ਼ਨ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਇਸ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰੇ ਦੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬੇਨ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਗਦੇ ਘਾਟ (ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਢੇ ਵੱਲ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਪੌੜੀਆਂ) ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਮਹੱਤਵ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਬੇਨ ਨਦੀ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਘਾਟ 'ਤੇ ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਸਨ। ਇਹ ਇੱਥੇ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਕਰੇਗਾ ਅਤੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਚਾਰ ਕਰੇਗਾ।
ਦੰਤਕਥਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਦਿਨ, ਤਿੰਨ ਦਿਨ ਨਦੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਲੋਪ ਰਹਿਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਇੱਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਹੋਏ, "ਕੋਈ ਹਿੰਦੂ ਨਹੀਂ, ਕੋਈ ਮੁਸਲਮਾਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।" ਇਸ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਵੇ ਨੇ ਉਸ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਦੀ ਏਕਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਧਰਮਾਂ ਦੀ ਏਕਤਾ 'ਤੇ ਜ਼ੋਰ ਦਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ, ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਆਤਮਿਕ ਅਨੁਭਵਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆਵਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਾਦ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਥਾਨ 'ਤੇ ਇਕ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਥਾਪਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ ਸੰਤ ਘਾਟ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੇਵ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਵਜੋਂ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਭਰ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਕਰਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਭੇਟ ਕਰਨ ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਿਕ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਆਉਂਦੇ ਹਨ।
