19-åriga Maria Sur är Melodifestivalens yngsta artist 2024. Hon är född och uppvuxen i Zaporizjzja i Ukraina. När Rysslands fullskaliga invasion inleddes i februari 2022 var hon en av deltagarna i landets pågående upplaga av The Voice.
Maria och hennes mamma flydde landet för tryggheten i Sverige, där hennes moster bor, medan hennes pappa tvingades stanna kvar. I Sverige började Maria snart fundera på hur hon skulle kunna fortsätta sin nyss påbörjade artistkarriär.
Hon sökte upp en mängd personer som sysslar med musik. Sarah Dawn Finer svarade och rekommenderade Maria till galan ”Hela Sverige skramlar”, som kom att samla in omkring 80 miljoner kronor till hjälparbete i Ukraina. ledde till att hon kunde ge ut singeln ”That’s The Way” samt medverka i bland annat Lotta på Liseberg, Natonaldagsgaloppen och Nyhetsmorgon.
I Melodifestivalen 2023 gick Maria direkt till final med ”Never Give Up” och fick flest röster i sin deltävling. Texten handlade om att följa sina drömmar och att aldrig ge upp, trots det som händer i världen
Deltagandet gav fart åt hennes artistkarriär i Sverige. Sedan dess har hon gästat Rix FM Festival och gjort en turnésommar med Diggiloo med 26 stopp mellan Ystad i söder och Höga kusten i norr.
Sedan hösten 2023 pluggar hon svenska på SFI samtidigt som hon läser musik på distans vid universitet i Kiev. Maria har också släppt två jullåtar: en cover av Ariana Grande och Kelly Clarksons ”Santa Can’t You Hear Me” och den nyskrivna ”No More Christmas Tears”.

She improved so much from last year. She really really deserved better, should've been top3
"True" but I would say that for at least four artists that didn't get to top 3, and not everybody can. Getting to ninth place with the competition is impressive nonetheless (consider there were qualification rounds before the finale).
The reason? Just IMO her song is good but not one that stands apart enough to be remembered in a year from now - her best work is ahead of her.

This year was really bad honestly… a lot of equally bad songs with a few outliers, like Maria Sur and Jay Smith. But for me I was rooting for Smash, Jay, Maria, and, to an extent, Medina

Maria Sur has experienced during all of this year one of the bigest glow up I have seen in history, from the little girl we met in 2023 to the super young woman we have seen with WHEN I’M
GONE 🎶 there is an indescribable transformation. This song has absolutely everything, surely the future will also continue to bring it back to us.
Hon fick alla mina röster. Satt helt chockad framför resultatet sen. Bästa framträdandet i år både när det gäller låten och koreografin. Ingen annan har använt lasereffekter, ljus och skuggor såhär bra innan, och rösten hon har höjer allt till ytterligare en nivå jag inte visste var möjlig i svensk tv. Keep on raving and inspiring!

Love that it's not almost pitch darkness like the semi but from what I can see is that she's less dynamic compared to semi. Her semi performance was crazy good, everything really hit right from her movement sync to the lighting, her singing, the camera work, just insanely good. Will certainly rewatch the semi performance everytime I wanted to see this song live

I'm sorry, but I hate Sweden for putting her first in the running order and not sending her. I mean, did they not notice how professional the song itself was compared to 'Unforgettable'? And her performance was even better than in the semi. The lighting and design as well as her voice.

I think, Maria seemed a bit nervous at the beginning of the song. I heard her voice quiver slightly. Maybe that's why she only got 7th place. But in any case, it was an epic and emotional entry. And this is only her second time competing, and she's already made it to the final.
Congratulations, Marijka. In my (and not only my I'm sure) opinion (I'm Ukrainian), Melodifestivalen is the premier league in the European pop industry. And placing 7th here is definitely better than even coming 2nd in our Vidbir. One day you going to win in MF, I believe.

They did and they shouldnt....it didnt work for me.
I’ve seen it live and when I saw this on tv I was happy to see they included more angles to give a bigger and more complete understanding of the scenery because it really is an amazing sight, but I see what you mean as far as it becomes too much of a focus when the focus should stay on her.
