    I’ve tried to propagate bear paw succulents from leaves multiple times and they’ve rotted each time (even ones I’ve let callus before putting them on top or in soil). I’ve read from other people’s experience that unlike other succulents, it’s very difficult to propagate from leaf, there’s more success to propagate from stem cuttings.

    Hi. Nice to see you again.
    Ooh...bugs bugs bugs.
    Just last week I dared to be happy that I didn't notice anyone building a nest, drinking plant juice, and today I discovered mealybugs on my big lemon tree again... why again??? I poured a lot of soap and neem oil on it... so that I ended up being soo sticky, the floor was sticky and when I started to clean after that, I found a half-asleep and a bit dizzy ladybug. where did he get into the room? After that incident, half the night I was soo worried if I did too much for him and if I ruined his dinner table.
    Deem mealybugs and hate-love ❤ with this lemontree😂.
    Greetings from Estonia.

    Thanks for another great video. My tip for anthuriums: top dress the top of the potting medium with spagnum moss, they love it! That includes my new ones that are in pon, and those still in organic mix.

      @Wanderlust2602 Před 10 měsíci +2

      I agree, I came here to say the exact same thing!
      If you also top dress the aerial roots in moss, it should activate the nodes without needing repotting.

    Once I had poinsettia with 5 long stems. It was gorgeous and very happy in the place it was placed. Then everyone around her started to be clumsy. We broke at least four of the stems if not all five, in the span of couple months. I didn't want to throw the plant away so I have just put the broken part to the original stem and fixed it. To my surprise, it actually grew together and you could not even see it was broken before. All this happened in times when I was so bad at plant care that even the weed was dying 🤭

    I would like to see you do some more content on poaching and houseplants. You had an experience with your Alocasia similar to one I had with a Rhipsalis Paradoxa, not realizing that its source was questionable. I also bought my from a reputable seller and found out a couple of months later that this type of Rhipsalis is nearly extinct in the wild. Thanks for another lovely video.

    Hi Claire, I don’t think your the only one that has trouble growing the regale, one thing you might try is top dressing her around her stem it will encourage roots to grow and guide them down into the substrate. I do it with all my Anthurium and it does work to help those roots to grow and make the plant feel more secure.

  • @Vigovan.vgh7
    @Vigovan.vgh7 Před 9 měsíci

    In my experience regales love a quick drying medium, I have mine in bark, pumice stones, lava rock, coco cubes, and a layer of moss on the top layer. This type of medium allows for a more frequent watering schedule giving you more opportunity to fertilize the plant especially when its pushing a new leaf out. Anthuriums are hungry feeders, make sure to fertilize as much as your climate permits. Love the channel! wishing you all the best with your regale!

    My problem atm is that I dont "care" mentally for my plants.. All summer I had to fight with gnats.. Being gone.. Coming back.. Being gone.. Now coming back and even going into my sphagnum moss and laying eggs there too (These are closed up propergation boxes) even though I have been using neem oil and hydrogen peroxide.. And now that its getting colder my Alocasias, like always, lets go of leaves and I AM NOT READY MAN. Hahaha..

    • @lindseysgreencanvas
      @lindseysgreencanvas Před 10 měsíci +10

      I had infestation a few yrs back in my potting soil so I put it in big buckets with drainage holes and poured boiling water through them and that did the trick. Some folks bake their infested soil, but I didn't want to deal with the smell of it baking. And you can also get a product called Mosquito Bits, you can soak them in your water to make a tea, and then pour it through the soil because it works on fungus gnats too. I'm struggling with spider mites ATM, which seems to happen in my house every year going into winter.
      On the alocasias, mine no longer go dormant in the winter because I make sure they get light, and I fertilize them with every watering, it solved my issue of the 3 leaf, dropping a leaf every time a new one came in as well.
      We all experience burnout with our plants I promise. I also had some serious issues with my mental health a couple yrs back, and the depression was so bad I literally watched my 250+ collection die day by day. It may be helpful to do a little purge, get rid of the ones that you find overwhelming or the ones that no longer "bring you joy" to make the whole situation more manageable during this season of your life. It hurts to let some go, but it will be better to do something now, than to do like me and watch them die because your mental health is making you not care. I hope things improve, and you can get back to the happiness that plants brought you, I truly believe it's an amazing hobby for our mental health, but it can definitely get overwhelming at times. Hang in there 🫂

      @@lindseysgreencanvas Yea I did all these things, mosquito bites tea, getting new soil aka just putting it in semi hydro, hardcore scrub all my pots and potting almost everything in pon when I had the chance to. They even went in the pon for a while, but quickly died so that was "good". I never ever had spider mites or mealy bugs thank goooooood. I cant imagine how disheartening that can be, especially when they sit in a little nook you didnt check..
      I have a full light setup and fertilize all year around too, but since my appartment gets a significant shift in temperatures (very old european building with high ceilings) all my plants act a little up, which is fair, I would too. I do too. Its damn cold in here and before it was like perma 30+°C. I just dont want to deal with it right now due to the fact of gnatmania and having a lot of propergations I kinda wanna sell, but cant mentally get rid off. :<
      Yea, I got rid of the ones I didnt find joy in anymore,.. Well, or I am just not caring as much, but then suddenly they do better than ever HAHA like damn girl what are you trying to tell me?! 🥸(I "overcare", yea yea yea, just like in reallife, everything is a life lesson lmaooo)
      Thanks for taking your time to show empathy, I really appreciate it. IT DO BE LIKE THAT! 🌼

      Hey, hunny, try diatomaceous earth. It's all I use for pest treatment and prevention. It's dealt with ants, gnats, thrips, and spider mites. It's a bit messy while you are treating an outbreak, but I once that's under control, you only need to trea your collection every 4 weeks, and for me, its kept my plants happy and healthy. Good luck 💚

    Love the little variegated bear paws. I root all my cacti and succulent cuttings/ offsets in akadama. I first discovered akadama in the bonsai community. Everything ive grown in akadama has absolutely thrived. Its somewhat expensive but its a brilliant substrate with great moisture retention and aeration. When I reroot plants with akadama I cut the succulent/ cactus, allow to callous for a few hours and then pot up in bone dry akadama. I also use a little Rhizopon 1% rooting hormone (Its a great hormone with IBA) and then bottom water after a week of it sitting dry. Thats how ive had good success!

    If the growth point on the esmereldense pops then a root will form from there, I succesfully rooted a rotted monstera adansonii with the tiniest little bit of chonk. I thought it was it a goner but she’s growing well now so keep going 🤞 Also did the same thing with my bear paw, knocked half its leaves off 😱 Ive just popped them in soil upright like yours, nothing has happened yet but I hope they do grow. The mother plant has recovered so quickly and exploded with new paws x

    Don’t feel bad…I’ve spazzed out a lot quite recently and frequently I might add. I have a somewhat large pinguicula collection and a handfull of nepenthes in the mix. I got interested in them almost two years ago due to a fungus gnat outbreak in my home. It’s so satisfying to see those black pesky flies on the leaves of my pinguiculas, every now and again I will find a mosquito on a leaf. They definitely do their job. I also find fungus gnats in my nepenthes pitchers. Now since CP’s need super filtered water (or rainwater / reverse osmosis water) I decided to purchase a Zero water pitcher because I go through water quickly. I have literally dropped 3 pitchers on the floor because I set them too close to the edge of my kitchen counter and I wasn’t paying full attention to what I was doing. I just dropped my 3rd one last night while I was potting up some propagations that I’m taking into the office for coworkers. I mean really, ugh!! I was so angry at myself! Oh well…
    I love how you’ve “trained” your Dean McDowel to curve around that trough planter. I love that plant but I didn’t want to have to keep chopping it up so I never purchased one until just recently….so now I am a proud owner of a little starter plant and I can’t wait for it to grow!
    My orbifolia is a drama queen, it’s last repot/chop last year…it went down to one stalk on both props and it took about 2-3 months before it gave me a new leaf! I had to prop it because it was so huge and becoming root bound. I love it though…I’ve had it for about 8 years possibly. When we went through the lockdown, I brought it home with me, it was at my office. I don’t think I’ll be needing to freak it out anytime soon, I did size up the pot a little.
    I don’t know if you have a video showing your preferred fertilizer(s) and do you do any home remedies to your plants? (like putting cinnamon in orchid media etc. banana peels in water that you then water your plant. There’s a bunch out there. Oh btw, you and Ross are so cute together, you enjoy each other’s company a lot, y’all’s sense of humor and such. ❤️

    Always good to get back into driving, I mean how else will you discover new plant shops? I love snake plants too! They are amazing, I have over 20 varieties in my collection now.
    With propagating I run experiments. I have noticed they root and pup faster when in absolutely nothing. If the leaf is healthy you can just leave it under a grow light and it will often grow left alone. Once they have roots I then lay them on top of soil and keep misted once a week.

      Have you seen the hack where you take a terracotta pot and the saucer, and a candle, to use for heat? you sit the saucer down, put the candle on it, and invert the terracotta pot over the candle, it provides ambient heat, and it could help to put it around your plant or even to help keep you warm. And they have those Emergency use candles that burn for 8+ hours. Maybe that could help? ❤
