  • In “AMMO U-Rust” I’ll show you how I achieved a realistic rust finish on this Star Wars Legion Downed AT-ST using U Rust by AMMO of MIG. More specifically, I will cover the process in 6 parts: Part 1, Undercoating; Part 2, Rust Texture; Part 3, Rust activator; part 4, basecoat and chipping; Part 5, pin wash; and Part 6, the secrets of U-Rust.
    Would you like to learn how to weather Star Wars Models? I've got you covered!
    This Star Wars Hobby Tutorial was my first members-exclusive video, released back on July 11, 2022. Four months later, it's now a public video. Enjoy!

    this is amazing, really expanded on the uses. The comments from your first video on this made it seem like a very specialized paint but man this demo rocked

    This was my first-ever Members-Only video, originally released on July 11, 2022. It's now public, so...ENJOY! From now on, exclusive members-only videos will be released to the lower Memberships tier after 2 months, and to the general public after 4. Hope you guys like the idea!

      Why not use scratch brushes?

      @TheRaceForTerra  Před rokem +1

      @@lokiwartooth1138 I have tried them in the past, two different sorts (nylon and fiberglass) - results were not to my liking at all. What I do use regularly is both toothpicks and an old airbrush needle.

    Awesome follow up video. Thanks so much for sharing. Thorough mixing is a requirement as most of mine have over time turned to a paste consistency.

    Great video Enrique. Glad you managed to make the u rust work. Does seem to take fun away from endless layering of texture with different paints! Bah, I must be getting old.
    Also, don’t you think the spray might actually have been key? I might reason that additional surface area small drops have with respect to air, activator and the rust product might actually help it react over flooding. Just an idea, but it makes some sense to me.

    • @TheRaceForTerra
      @TheRaceForTerra  Před 2 lety

      Thanks a lot, Stephan, and great to hear you enjoyed it! Yeah, the spray make sense to me, but the greatest change in color came with the water, I think. By the way, I applied sea water to the DG Rhino - seriously!

    I only got part way through your first version so I can't really compare the redux edition.
    What a great find though, might be worth me looking into the stuff when I come to doing a burned out, rusty tank. Great to see your model a bit more too, it's a chunky bit of scenery isn't it?!
    Thanks!

      Heheh, thanks, Rick! I will test the Deluxe Materials product next, which is way cheaper. Probably a better idea except for extended projects…like a Death Guard army! P

    Although the bar to entry for Ammo's U Rust is high, I can now see its value. Would you say U rust would be a better choice for a competition piece Versus traditional pigment method?

    • @TheRaceForTerra
      @TheRaceForTerra  Před rokem +1

      Hi Pirate, yes, most definitely. As you can see, it’s also a lot of fun now that I know how to make it work properly! Oh, and good news - they do sell the pots separately now.

      @@TheRaceForTerra Thank you, Sir, I'll keep an eye out for loose pots. Ammo has so many great products & with an ever-thihing hobby budget it gets harder to choose.

    Is this rust after drying hard enough or need it a layer of varnish? Did varnish change the appearance? And is it after drying non toxic? :)

    • @TheRaceForTerra
      @TheRaceForTerra  Před rokem

      Sorry for the delay, Modellfrickler! The AMMO U-Rust is rock hard after it dries, but like I said in the video, applying Tamiya Clear did make it react again. My downed AT-ST has not changed at all since I finished it back in June and it has been (man)handled quite often since then, but I would definitely not LICK the rust! 😄

    • @modellfrickler1883
      @modellfrickler1883 Před rokem +1

      @@TheRaceForTerra Hi, thanks. I thought about using the rust as a coat under the basecoat and chip it free. But it sounds like the best is to use it after all varnishes are on the model.
      Currently I use Dirty Down Rust and I wouldn't touch this without a layer of varnish. :)

    • @modellfrickler1883
      @modellfrickler1883 Před rokem

      @@TheRaceForTerra Ok I forget that you use a paint coat above for chipping. :) So I will try it. :) And I will test different varnishes maybe.

    • @TheRaceForTerra
      @TheRaceForTerra  Před rokem +1

      @@modellfrickler1883 No, I think your original idea is better - it should really go under the basecoat. Remember - this is not an acrylic paint, like DDR...it's actual rust.
