Jimmy Borges was an electronics distributor but was also a drug distributor in heavy volume located in New York City, a friend of Miami drug dealer Newton Blade who referred James "Sonny" Crockett and Ricardo "Rico" Tubbs to him to unload a supply of confiscated drugs from Metro-Dade.

When I first saw Penn & Teller on SNL, I asked myself, 'Isn't that the guy who got killed on "Miami Vice" last night?'
This episode was definitely a classic!!
That bar shootout was something else. Jimmy's whole demeanor changed.
He didn't have anything to lose at that point. He knew the Revillas wanted him dead.
Yeah, he was pretty unfazed by the whole affair until it went south.
He was only a pasty for the deal. Only the Revillas used him for there convenience,

There were some great scenes in this episode - especially between Crockett and the banker.

Both parts of this episode play more like a highlight reel of the entire series, rather than as just a typical episode.

@@jaxxmaxx100 Scarface wasn't well received at the time, it was deemed too graphic and violent by most critics.
Miguel Piñero, who played Crockett's and Tubbs' nemesis Esteban Calderone, plays a Revilla brother (also named Esteban) in this episode. His hair is longer and he wears sunglasses to differentiate himself from his Calderone persona.

According to the E! True Hollywood Story, director Paul Michael Glaser suggested to Michael Mann that the second season opener needed to be another two-hour episode, like the pilot was, because the show was red-hot at the time. Mann agreed, and the episode was scripted as a two hour opener.
By the second season, MIAMI VICE was at the center of the pop culture universe.
Teller was also on Miami Vice (as a sleazy lawyer in season 4’s “Like a Hurricane” when Crockett marries Caitlin) 😎
Sixteen actors received "guest stars" credits in this episode, more than any other episode of Vice. As of 2019, five of them have died (Peter Allen in 1993, Julian Beck in 1985 -- two weeks before the episode aired, his only TV appearance -- Charles Ludlam in 1987, Miguel Piñero in 1988, and Zoe Tamerlis in 1999). Additionally, Ken Ober (who died in 2009 and was most famous for his appearance in the game show Remote Control) appeared uncredited as the taxi driver waiting for Crockett and Margaret.

This is Luis Guzmán's first great role, and years later he worked again with Philip Michael Thomas in GTA Vice City (being whacked by him twice in both tv show and videogame)

One of MY favorite shows....there were a lot of times when I wasn't able to watch all of the episodes ......I still need to watch quite a few that I never saw...or only saw part of....

I wonder why they edited out the scene where Crockett picks up one of the toys (you can see him walking up to them after tubbs says, "Borges") Crockett picks the toy up and its helmet opens up to reveal a squeaking Godzilla face or something like that. Crockett chuckles to himself with the big smile. He kind of looks around until he sees the blood on the floor leading into the elevator. It was in the original broadcasts. Those who saw it originally might remember it. - COOP
Also, the shootout scene is shortened. It was that way when the "Prodigal son" was aired as 2 episodes to fit in 1 hour timelime with the commercials. When it was aired as one full episode, the scenes were in full. In DVD release there was one longer episoed and I hope they did not cut it on the Blue ray release, because it would sucks...

I remember the diner The Moondance, off of Canal St- that's where the NYPD roughs up Crockett and Tubbs at the end of part 1.
If you watch the scene closely during filming people passing by in cars recognize the actors and can be seen waving hello to them.

My God man after all these years of watching that one episode (or double-episode) one of the best if not the best thing ever from the series, I've only just now found out for fuck's sake that was Penn of Penn and Teller. And I even named a car after it "The Prodigal Son"
And here's a spoiler for you. Jillette HATED his experience working on Vice, and especially working with Don Johnson. It's a shame because I like what he did here.
@@4seeableTV What? Where you hear that from? Over the years I've heard that Don was intense and super professional on the set and those traits may have rubbed a lot of guest stars, crew, and etc. the wrong way.

This just brought back a memory, I remember how his character stirred up feelings of hate towards the show and it's funny how you end up hating the guy. But we must be able to separate reality and distinction from drama which I understand some people have a tough time of doing. Also though it shows a good Mark of the craft of acting. Sort of like our current president Brandon.
Anyone know why the color timing of this episode is so dark on the blu-rays? The colors are so muted. Also, I loved hearing The System's "Pleasure Seekers" in this clip.

Detonics Combatmaster. 6+1. He fired 13. Miami Vice was usually pretty good at not having Sonny fire bottomless handgun magazines, so this was pretty glaring.
