At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

This could have been avoided had Hürrem been realistic with Mihrimah and not promise that she'd marry whomever she wants and loves. I mean even Nurbanu was smart enough to teach her daughters about that fact of being sultanas.
I'll admit to always having a bone to pick with how this all gets depicted since it's honestly just done to give Rüstem a reason to seem creepy and Hürrem look like a horrible mother (along with, I guess, pushing the image that Rüstem was partner in crime from the start). It's made even worse by the show already having the narrative structure required to shape the historical truth that Hürrem tried to marry Mihrimah off to a younger, handsomer man, only for Suleiman blocked it out of a desire to elevate Rüstem. (Not a fan either of people pretending like Mahidevran wouldn't do the same to support Mustafa, if she had a daughter, but that's a whole other issue.)
I love Rustem. A husband who will do anything for you. He is quite charming too. ❤
Characterwise I think it works but as Red said this does seem like the point is to make Hürrem look as bad as possible.
@princess7jasmine Excuse me for possible mistakes but as far as my memory goes, i don't believe Hürrem and Nurbanu are opposites in the upbringing of born sultanas.
To marry their preference among influential men with the chance to become grand viziers in benefit of their parties is what Hürrem says beneath the emotional of the scene she says that she wants Mihrimah to marry who she wants to, which i dont its an dialogue that belong to another instead of Hatice's wedding with Ibrahim or a translation mistake happened in it because i rewatched it and why made her say that Mihrimah would have a wedding like her aunt's is left to the viewers' opinion. Maybe it's the love between the bride and the groom, maybe it's the luxury. Moreover, throghout Mihrimah's upbringing Hürrem is as open to her as Nurbanu is to Sah, Gevherhan and Esmehan about her expectations on them. It's not without reason this is one of the most famous parallels between them. Hürrem reminds Mihrimah about her status, the use of her privilege beyond luxury and the difficult context they are in enough for me believe against making her responsible for her daughter's grief over the possibility of marrying Rüstem which, although i think theres' well-made arguments against it, it's implied to be hated by Mihrimah because he wanted to be with her since she was a child, for which she becomes desperate for Bali Bey to marry her. Not only her childhood crush on him play a role in this, which would be normal for her family to have forgotten about because of the amount of time they spent away from each other. The results of Nurbanu's parenting are also mostly unkown because her grown children are in the show's finale and it's all we know about them because the people behind it didn't make anything of characters that would have an episode of tenure before they were forgotten in magnificent century: Kösem because they had no effect on anyone, which is why the audience can see the shadow of Safiye's personality, relationships and future self, and nothing of Sah, Esmehan and Gevherhan.
