I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video I will tell you what happened on the six-hundred-sixty-ninth day of the war.
Day 669: Dec 24
Today, the biggest news comes from the south.
After Ukrainian forces had conducted a successful aerial ambush on the Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers and multiple Russian military bloggers had confirmed the deaths of their comrades, there was palpable suspense on the front line, and everyone waited for the reaction of the Russian Ministry of Defense. Today, the Russian Ministry of Defense finally published a report, and interestingly, instead of confirming the loss of 3 jets in the south, they claimed that they shot down 4 Ukrainian jets in the south.
Ukrainian fighters operating in Krynky reported that not a single bomb had been dropped on their positions since the reported interception of the Russian jets. Russian sources also did not publish any new videos of the strikes, further confirming that the ambush did happen and the Russian Ministry of Defense is trying to conduct the usual retribution information operation.
Moreover, some of the most prominent Russian sources reported that Ukrainians have already received a squadron of F-16 fighter jets and dispersed them throughout the airfields in western Ukraine. And this is not unlikely because even the Institute for the Study of War noted that based on the recent Estonian Ministry of Defense strategy document, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, and Belgium had to send F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine before the end of this year. This gave rise to even more speculation about the recent ambush and why Russian aviation has been really quiet.
The lack of airstrikes alleviated the pressure on the Ukrainian bridgehead on the eastern bank of the river and allowed Ukrainians to increase the pace of their offensives. And such a relief came in handy because, over the previous days, Russian forces had conducted a series of powerful attacks. The main Russian attack was directed towards the central part of the village, where Russians tried to split Ukrainian forces and attack them from multiple sides. A Ukrainian fighter reported that the Ukrainians repelled the supporting flank attacks, however, Russians in the center continued to push and even established their positions. The clashes did not cease, and Ukrainians tried to prevent Russians from expanding their foothold. According to a Ukrainian marine, eventually, they cut off the Russian group from the mainland and forced them to hide from constant fire inside the houses. Once Russians entered them, Ukrainian M777 artillery crews made sure to level these houses with the ground. Russians reportedly sent a rescue unit with 2 armored fighting vehicles and 20 soldiers to distract Ukrainians and give Russians a chance to escape the trap, but it was too late, and Ukrainians destroyed the rescue unit as well. The fight ended around the time the Russian jets were shot down, allowing Ukrainians to reconsolidate control over the central part of the settlement.
Ukrainian reconnaissance drone operators reported that Russians tried to conduct reconnaissance in the forest at night. Ukrainian forces recently strengthened their electronic warfare system even more, and, according to Madiar, just over the last day, Ukrainians intercepted 35 Russian drones. It seems like some Russian units ran out of drones, which is why their commanders forced them to conduct reconnaissance by foot. Unfortunately for Russians, the area was surveilled with mine-dropping drones.
But the main job of Ukrainian drone operators is to destroy as much Russian equipment as possible. The commander of the Madiar’s Birds Drone Detachment posted a video showing how his unit destroyed around 15 more pieces of equipment over the last 2 days. A third of them were armored fighting vehicles, another third were trucks, and the remaining were various cars. The basic tactic used is the following. Ukrainians are identifying the roads and especially intersections that Russians use the most, then distantly mine these areas with drones at night and in the morning go around and finish the immobilized vehicles. The tactic is extremely effective because Russians do not have enough time to organize evacuations.

Ukraine should be supplied with an airforce-worth of fighter aircraft, such as the F-16s and longer-range precision munitions, such as ATACMS (more of them,, and the longest-range variants should be provided), and the russian military facilities inside of russia should be considered legitimate targets. It is worth noting that support for military aid to Ukraine in America is over 80% and increasing. This is because Americans can see that not only is aiding Ukraine the ethical thing to do, it is the practical thing as well. America has spent only approximately 6% of our military budget so far to help Ukraine. However, over half of the russian army has been destroyed. This is a tremendous bargain by any measure! In addition to this, when russia is defeated in this war, their barbaric ideology of imperialism will also be defeated, making Europe a more peaceful, stable place for many generations - as well as preventing a new arms race in the region. That is why billions spent today saves trillions tomorrow. The vast majority of Americans understand this. Americans also want to see Ukrainian military and civilian casualties minimized. This is why Americans are correct to support giving military aid to Ukraine.
Please write to your elected representatives to request this military aid. If you are a US citizen, please consider writing to President Biden and your other elected representatives, and demand Ukraine be given the above weapons - in war-winning quantities, and soon. The sooner we give Ukraine the weapons it needs to liberate all of its territory, the sooner this war will be over, and with fewer Ukrainian casualties. Letters can be submitted electronically via the Whitehouse website. One can also google for ones' elected representatives - many of which have similar websites. One may simply write and submit a letter electronically to make one's desire known.

The F-16 is so important. Artillery ammunition stockpiles are problematic, and the F-16 enables Ukraine to employ new types of ordnance for which large stockpiles are available. And the F-16 platform can employ them quickly, accurately, and flexibly. Ukraine can generate sorties, and definitely has the command and control structures to make them count. Just like with artillery, air power doesn't just run around doing its own thing, it's a force multiplier and standoff weapon system best used as part of other operations.
The Japanese are delivering ammunition to the US and other NATO countries so they can send over their stockpile to Ukraine. Both artillery and Patriot PAC-2/3 missiles.

If the Ukranians are able to integrate lasing units on the survalenve drones, they can help guide F-16 dropped laser guided bombs onto targets. Bigger booms than FPV drones can carry without risking ground troops to do the target lasing.
In Budapest Memorandum of 1994, Russia recognized the statehood and territorial integrity of Ukraine as binding under international law; in return, Ukraine gave up its Soviet-era nuclear weapons.

The Russian's clearly fear the F16s a lot more than their official positions regarding their impact on the war. The Russians have had plenty of opportunity to see F16s in action up close in numerous conflicts. maybe not as a direct opponent, but more than enough to know just how capable these old birds are. I have little doubt that they have also been watching the raining of Ukrainian pilots in these planes. On paper, the Su35s are superior aircraft but that is in the hands of highly skilled pilots. I suspect they don't have many of them left as they have lost more than a few pilots in lesser aircraft.
In two years, in a country with a tiny rag tag air force, Russia has never had air superiority for more than a couple days, They have always had a bid advantage on paper, but not in practice. They are definitely afraid to fly in Ukrainian territory. I hope their fears of the F16s turn into reality!

There is a reason why Russia fears those 40-year jets. Ukraine has showed that it overperforms any kind of weapons delivered and Ukrainians having some kind of air superiority in specific places will be a huge operational breakthrough, just like what happened with HIMARS in Summer 2022. The most important priority for the Russian command now is to keep the stalemate, as it benefits Russia the most in the long run.
It'll take more than one squadron of F-16s to establish air superiority, but now Ukraine can make full use of NATO air-ro-air missiles. And the HARM missiles, which are not something that Russian air defenders or radar operators want to deal with.
Unfortunately the SU 35 Radar has a longer range than F16 so Ukraine has to be very careful and fly only in areas with a good Patriot protection.

It would be great if all western countries could support Ukraine by setting up state funded drone building companies who would produce tens of thousands of drones each month. with as much domestically sourced parts/materials as possible. It would provide Ukraine with all needed rc drones like 300 000 per month and also help make western countries stay on top off rc drone technology

Great idea. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as 'domestically sourced parts/materials'. Everything comes from China. That needs to change before they go to war with the US. Believe me, China is saving the best parts/materials for itself.

There have been news in last few days that the first F-16s may arrive before the end of the year. The public is probably not going to get real-time information (that would be stupid), so it's definitely possible that it already happened.

Formerly working in a Fires Brigade (which just might have helped train the Ukrainian Army before the conflict started), putting lights on your platform like that is a ballsy move if you're anywhere near a combat zone.

We could see the Krinky front change massively without aircraft or drones being able to take off there as now Russia can only fight off Ukraine here with artillery and ground troops (both of which have been proven to be quite venerable.) Ukraine just needs to bring in more counter battery radars and more drones to the south to really put every aspect of Russia's efforts here futile. Sadly though the weather may not be perfect for a quick offensive there as it is mostly cloudy (except for like 2 days) and some rain even. Hopefully Ukraine can keep those aspects grounded long enough for the ground to harden

Yeah, they tried that.... Only the Russians had more drones and counter-battery radars as well as significantly more artillery and ammunition to use it.... Which is why Ukraine is in their current position in the first place....
Also, the F-16s won't be able to wrestle air superiority from the Russian Air Force anyway. They simply do not have the numbers, and most importantly, they do not have required number of AWACS to make use of the F-16s properly.
