"Bob's your uncle" came from the British Prime Minster Lord Salisbury. (Robert Cecil,) he appointed his extremely young nephew to a cabinet position within his government.
This shameless act of nepotism had people claiming that whatever your qualifications for high office, the only one that mattered was whether "Bob was your uncle."
Thank you!!
Thank you! Often wondered about that phrase!
I know it's not mentioned in the show, but I think you should mention to them that Alliser Thorne fought against Robert and Ned in the war, so he got sent to the wall, which is part of why he hates Jon Snow. His character makes much more sense in this light, instead of just a random grudge against a bastard.
I think it's mentioned once actually that he's there because he fought against the rebellion, I just don't remember when it comes up. It's like literally one line of dialogue and that's it lol.
Keep in mind, too, that bastards aren't trusted in Westeros. They are a threat to legitimate children. The Blackfyre Rebellion. A certain Bolton. That's why Cat hates Jon so much. He could challenge Robb for Winterfell.
Yeah cause I never knew what his grudge was with Jon which would have been nice to have known
This is new information for a non book reader. Interesting.
I do find the name mispronunciations charming. There's a reactor who called Tyrion 'Tyrone' and it always made me laugh.
You mean Leo? 😂 Cos it is great when we get "Tyrone...you the man l"
One reactor couldn’t remember his name and took to calling him ‘Ty’. I wasn’t a fan
@@thatsthat2612 Definitely Leo 😂
@@NiKiMa023 😂😂😂
LOL Mr Video, Leo! Hahaha 😂
I think the mispronunciatons are both hilarious and charming. They make the reactions genuine, show a bit of y'alls humor and personality.
Many reactors (and, frankly, many regular fans of the show) often come up with either pet names for various characters, or riffs on difficult to pronounce names. There was one reactor who had a lot of trouble with the name of the actor who plays Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), and finally gave up and went with "Nickelodeon Costco-Walmart" 🤣
I look forward to hearing the new ones that pop up along the way of your journey through this amazing show.
Something to help understand this is to know the War of the Roses in history inspired the writer Martin. Also Westros is England enlarged complete with Harian's wall in the north. All warped in scale, myth and legion.
After watching many reactions to game of thrones on CZcams , I am 100% in for silly names. We all know who you're talking about.
Also, they weren't mentioned much, but as they were introduced by name in episode one, its not a spoiler, but, for the notes you missed some of Neds children. His oldest son is Robbert(often called "Robb with two Vs by reactors), and his youngest son is Rickon
Robb's name is Robb not Robbert. Where did you get that from?
15:10 In ye olden days it was common for the victor in a war to take hostages from the important families of defeated kingdoms/cities. This was a way to give them the needed leverage to enforce the following treaty or vassalage without a costly occupation - if you rebel or try to wiggle out of it, the hostages get got.
Not only that, but it was a way to turn a rival family into an ally within a generation, by bonding with the rival family's future.
@@mking1982098 Yes, the hostages were usually treated as members of the household.
A really ancient example is the historian Polybius. He was taken as a hostage by the Romans from the defeated Achaian League, but ended up becoming fiercely pro-Roman later in his life.
Tyrion looked surprised, ONLY SO FAR as to say, "oh shit, ANOTHER false accusation".......he don't think he was surprised at the specific accusation.
Just an addition for your notes, because it wasn't said verbal here, king Robert's family name is Baratheon
In the World of Ice and Fire, (a history compendium of GRRM's), we learn, when Arya Stark had been assigned by Syrio Forel to catch every cat in the Red Keep, she had succeeded with catching all except for a mean one-eared black tomcat. She chases him halfway across the castle before she finally catches him, and kisses his forehead while he tries to claw her.
It has been confirmed by George R.R. Martin that cat was Balerion, a kitten which had belonged to Princess Rhaenys Targaryen, the young daughter of Rheagar Targaryen and Elia Martel who was killed by the Mountain on the orders of Tywin Lannister. (More about that in upcoming episodes.)
Rhaenys named him Balerion because, as a wee kitteh, he liked to pretend he was the great dragon, Balerion the Black Dread. After Rhaenys was killed in the Sack of King's Landing in 283 AC, he was abandoned and became the meanest stray in the Red Keep.
By the time Arya caught him he was an old black Tomcat with one chewed and torn ear that him appear one-eared. He is filthy and foul-tempered, and has been known to attack ravens in the rookery of the Red Keep. The cat once stole a roast quail served to Tywin Lannister at a dinner with King Robert I Baratheon. He also once clawed Prince Joffrey Baratheon's hand....one of the reasons Joffrey enjoys skinning cats....that, and he's just a psychopath.
This cool back story is, to me, indicative of George R.R. Martin's creativity and attention to details in all his writing....I mean, how many authors would give a stay tomcat such a back story?
So cool!
I’m so excited for the upcoming episodes and seasons. You ladies are doing amazing! i bet a year from now you’ll exceed your goals for this channel & have a very successful reaction channel. love being apart of this journey!!
Thank you so much!!
I LOVE the funky name stuff. I do it all the time myself, especially when the names are hard for me to remember or pronounce. My best friend loves Chinese dramas that aren't in English, and the names are SO hard for me when she makes me watch them with her, so they become 'Bangbang', 'sexy white haired god' 'fan guy' 'creepy girl', etc. She thinks it's hilarious. I will be calling the Targaryens Tarragons from now on and I'm not mad about it lol.
Spoilery (maybe) edit:
My teenage daughter, who has never seen the show because she's too young but has heard enough from me that people think she has lol, calls Lady Olena 'Savage Grandma'.
11:22 :
- TV fell asleep already
- So did the audience
HAHAHAHA
And my reaction : Oh nooo!!! That was sooo funny !!! You guys are awesome. You have so much potential :D Keep going!
really enjoying the reactions. you guys are great hosts. it's fun hearing all the speculation. Keep at it...
Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but the Lannisters of Casterly Rock are based on the Lancasters.
Casterly Rock was built by an extinct family called the Casterlys
I don't remember reactors names yet at this point, but the woman in the middle seems quite enamored with Jon's story about why he has avoided lust.
Yay new episode! So excited to be on this journey with y’all!
Enjoying your reactions. It's always fun seeing new watchers go from not remembering anyone's names to having favourite characters and people they want dead lol. I'm not a fan of the slide-in to skip ahead though, it's jarring.
It’s gone in future vids! Thanks for your input 🙂
Loving Stef's poker face. Well done!
Some people make a storyboard and just put pictures of the characters and places on it, with a map in the corner to refresh your mind about locations.
Then they move the characters around to different areas, and they might have a graveyard for anybody that dies as well.
Some have a like & dislike list they swap people on as well. 😊
It might help you to keep track of things, and names.
Love this idea!!
It's cool and funny to see your perspectives commenting on this world.
I didn't know the Targaryens with Japanese, "The Tamagachis?!" lol
Enjoying the reactions its gonna be a wild ride.
I’m waiting for them to call them the Tokugawa, which wouldn’t be too far from accurately analogous in some ways. 😉
@@0okamino They should keep that for the series "Shogun"
Really enjoying the reactions. New subscriber. Cant wait to follow the GOT reaction journey with you all. Just wish you would put some longer scenes in. Looking forward to the next episode.
I'm really enjoying these reactions. Especially the random songs Lindsay is breaking out into. I suspect we're probably around the same age. Lol.
Now for the lighting, maybe by the middle of season 8 y'all might want to see if there's a way to do, like, night vision video, because that one episode is so dark (visually) that even turning up the brightness to max capacity on my TV and turning out all of the lights in the house, it was hard to see basically anything.
'we' ll have to put summer away'.. That's such an intentional but accurate prediction in so many ways
Guys you should do a love/like/hate list for characters at the end of each season!
Great way to wake up been notified to this amazing channel. Hope you girls have a great day
Good morning!
I'm enjoying the reactions and the speculations. Looking forward to more.
I’ve never seen anyone take the phrases in this show so literally. LOL.
I love how the arrived to class prepared today 😂❤ really loving the channel ladies!! Please keep it up.
Yay! Thank you!
Let them know not to feel overwhelmed. Season 1 throws more information at you than all of the other seasons in my opinion, and it's even harder because you're starting fresh with no insight into the world. It takes most people until season 2 or 3 to finally start cementing everyone's names and all the locations into their heads lol. The note taking is great, too. It's one of the only shows I'd recommend taking notes for lol.
Note taking recommended for Dark as well. Hopefully they will react to that at some time.
"There are 5 Stark children."
Ashley @15:29 : "Robb, Sansa, Arya, Bran.... Robb, Sansa Arya, Bran... 1, 2, 3, 4..... **blue screen** **ignores**"
Loving these reactions
i loved the sound efects tecnician
🤩
44:45 ya we all hate Ser Allister, but he does say "hard truths". They are there to guard everything south of the wall.
Also, as far as Tyrion assuming that Jamie/Cersei had something to do with what happened to Bran, Tyrion pretty much says that he knows it was them in the beginning of episode 2 when they're having breakfast.
"Get that King a catathre!"🎉😂
I don't like the word savages either. Thank you Lindsay.
making assumptions is a great way to confuse your future self! :D
Since you mentioned Knight's Tale, King Robert's actor was one of the squires. Can't recall the characters name. Enjoying your reactions. You guys are fun. 😊
He played Roland.
I never realized that until these ladies made that connection.
One of the first reactors I ever watched, "Mr. Williams," and another one not much later, ALWAYS called the main characters by names they made up for them. Mr. Williams called Tyrion, "Little Big Man," and the other duded called him Tyrone. It was so dam funny. Especially calling him Tyrone. The key for me is as long as you guys make sure we know who you mean and are consistent with calling each character the same nick name, it can be a lot of fun having your own names for them. Mr. Williams also did something else that I loved too. Of all characters, he picked out Pycel (the very old dude that can barely walk in Kings Landing) to be his on screen personality. What I mean is once or twice a season, he would make little skits with his kids and sometimes his older uncle around things Pycel did. He would show the skit before or after the reaction. And he would dress up as a black version of Pycel and then act just like him. White Santa beard included. What made it super funny is Mr. Williams is a VERY large bald black man with a thick southern accent, acting like a feeble old white man. He would go outside with a camera and really bad costumes and act out scenes. It was so dam funny watching these. To this day, to me, he was one of the best if not the best reactor I saw for the show.
So sure, have fun with the show. Just be consistent with the nick names and keep using the same ones for the same people.
The Winter comes the same way it does for us. The planet they are on is farther from the sun. it's just that their planets orbit is more irregular than Earth's. They know it's coming because it's getting chillier.
2:44 On my first watch, I was so confused about who is who related to where and things have name too. I Get most of it after watching seasons 2, then rewatched season and understood much more. Then, I started doing that every season. When the second ended, watch 1-2 again. Watched 1-2 before 3 started. Then after 3 watched 1-2-3 again and so on.
31:00 PHRASING xD
This is exactly why I’ve seen it multiple times!! -Stefani
having subtitles on and actually visualizing the names helps memory retention and association.
I did that too!
Same, except I’d also watch the episodes in the season before the new episode came out (at least up to a point) and also read forums and watch videos analyzing each episode and then I’d also rewatch all the seasons with new people who hadn’t seen them before, so I have watched season 1 so many times I’m almost sock of it lol And i’m currently watch two reaction series that are at the same point in season 1 (this channel and The Octobers), but I kinda want to rewatch (or reread) the whole thing some time soon
Also I call for auctioning the notebook when yall finish. Or publishing it because it's definitely going to have comedic value for sure!
30:58 lol you done a great job. 40:10 look at the camera was funny.
“I guess this is before feminism.”
😁😁😁😁😁😁
Not funny.
20:38 “ he’s the COPDer”😂😂😂
Loving all the videos so far! Great job ladies💜
Ravens differ from crows in appearance by their larger bill, tail shape, flight pattern and by their large size. Ravens are as big as Red-tailed Hawks, and crows are about the size of pigeons. The raven is all black, has a 3.5-4 ft wingspan and is around 24-27 inches from head to tail.
yes, Stef! based on War of the Roses (Starks=Yorks, Lancasters=Lannisters)
You are really validating my nerding out and I’m here for it!! 😂
@@MugShotzReacts haha glad to help 🫡🍻 -fellow history nerd 🤓
It's not meant to be a secret who sent the assassin. Rewatch the scene where Cersei and Jaime talk, the one where he says he'll kill everyone until it's just the two of them left.
No one could ever imagine the dagger would be traced back to Tyrion.
Another fun discussion, it's like a hive mind in there!
I want to throw out spoilers so bad on this topic.....but I won't.
SAMWELL! I love him.
This sunplot about "whose dagger was that ?" is a bit stupid.
If someone hires an assassin, why on earth would he arm the assassin with his own blades, especially if that is a highly valuable antique, which other people know about ?.
Also, didn't Ned tell Robert that his bastards mothers name is Whyla in episode 2? that would have to factor into their theory, maybe they would say he is lying. maybe they forgot.
they are dire wolf ( giant wolves)
5:00 I do find the mispronouncing names fun, especially since you are understanding the show, just fumbling with the names. If you are still fumbling by the end of the season, start of season 2, then it starts to be more obnoxious, although the occasional Taragon thrown in for a laugh can still be fun. Obviously names introduced later still have a grace period. Kudos for taking the initiative to learn them early!
Edit:
10:06 I will never be annoyed by you misspelling a name. I may laugh a little, but I would not fault you in the slightest.
I WISH YOU ALL GOOD FORTUNE IN THE WARS TO COME
Jon couldn't have thinking about his Mother, since he is a bastard and don't know who she is.
A smaller correction, that won't spoil anything, they are not dogs, they are Dire Wolves (we were told that when they found them, and you can the symbol of Dire Wolves on the Stark Banners, Shields etc. and that was why the Stark Children were allowed to get one).
Great Show! Great Reaction!!!! Thank You so Much ✌✌✌ 🇦🇺
Thank you too!
Your predictions about Jon and Gendry possibly being brothers made me realize something new..... hmmmmmm. Thank you
It is definetely a test :D
🤣
I'm pretty sure they don't "know" that (when?) winter is coming. Aside from the fact that it inevitably comes. It is just said a lot because the phrase is the Stark motto. Winter is Coming.
I wanna thank Lindsay for setting boundaries around the word savages! It is something that is still used to label Indigenous people in a negative way. Its something that hearing just makes me cringe, but do not hold it against anyone, especially the 3 of you! The friendship between the 3 of you is beyond beautiful and makes me laugh/smile.
I'm here to watch the growth and am enjoying the mispronouncing names, not knowing what is happening while playing detectives. I'm happy that a journal for the journey has started and that the care to learn the names of all these brilliant characters are developing care to learn more about them and their stories!
Thank you Stefani for assisting these sweet summer children in this journey.
Thank you Ashley for finally acknowledging how magical the dire wolves are! 😂
do what you need to get names recognizable to you. You are the ones that need to understand and enjoy the show.
Mispronusation
In the beginning is cute.
But gets OLD really, really fast.
Unlike misspellings. 😉
There are actually 6 stark children, though one we know as a snow but he has stark blood….just sayin haha
P.S. they are NOT dogs lol…wolves, they are wolves!
It's not a test. The test will come later.
The saying is actually British amd it goes, Bob's your uncle and Fanny's your aunt. The bobs your uncle is from a priminister named Robert gascoyne. No idea about the fanny aunt bit. Bo explanation on google for that.😂😂 Maybe that was just added on later for laughs.😂😂
Ans I live the mispronouncing name thing. Its muvh more fun. And we get who you mean. And ul pick it up anyway. Don't know how anyone could be mad at that. Bit then it is the internet. So nothing shocks me. Trolls and keyboard warriors everywhere thatbneed ti correct everyone about everything just to get a reaction out of people.😂
When I was new, the names I had for some of the Stark kids were: Salsa, Oreo and Raisin Bran.
PS
You guys forgot Robb Stark and Theon Greyjoy (asterisk) under House Stark!
Thank you for not liking the word “savages”.
The girl with the beanie is super observant.
Feedback: I'm pretty sure the mic should be pointing to the ceiling. The voice should enter from around the mic, not from the top. Google the brand and model and any picture should explain that.
Understand it looks like a tough job Stefani, good will power too. But once they get into the swing of things it’ll get easier
Forgot to write down the magical dogs 😅
The names?? Good point!
There is only two seasons... when it's winter, and when winter is comming!!
🤣
On the remark of that this was before "feminism", you do have a point, but interestingly, this show is filled with strong women.
YES!! 🙌🏼
Ashley is funny. while the character is talking she is mentioning that she can't remember what they say before... and she is missing new lines they are saying... listen to all the dialogues! they are all important.
There's nothing funny about it. It's annoying.
@@bryce253 my point precisely. we agree.

Keep in mind, in this universe, seasons don’t work like how it does in reality. In the real world, where the traditional four seasons last ~3 months, seasons in this universe last years.
Currently, they are in the middle of a near 10-year long summer. They’ll experience an autumn, for some time. Also, the autumns and springs are treated like transitional period l, that are shorter chronologically, into the next major season: winter and summer.
So, yes, winter is coming-and I don’t mean the heavy snowfalls! 🧟♂️ ❄️

The wife of Tywin was also his his first cousin. Messed up brood.
Wolves not dogs
Keep watching they get it eventually lol!
The first time I read/watched GoT, I loved to hate Cersei..now, any time I re-watch it or watch reaction videos, I can't help but love her more and more..I can not imagine any other actor besides Lena Heady portraying her..such perfect casting..her chapters in the books were always my favorites, too because you really get to see inside of her cunning mind and how it works, and Lena brings her to life on the screen quite beautifully, from every word, action and microexpression..xo
She is FANTASTIC
yeah....craven is the Game of Throne word for coward
next time someone calls the majestic DIREWOLVES!!!!!!!!!!! "dogs"............a dislike button might be clicked!

For the love of god. Please stop calling them dogs lol. They are DIRE Wolves. Which coincidentally is the Sigil of House Stark.. Which as said is the reason Ned allowed them to adopt them. The distinction is important when you consider the house Sigil and the relationships with the animals.
Crys for the lack of feminism... in the most Feminist Friendly series ever aired in main stream.
They don’t really know that yet!
They won't get it.
This show is before feminism-That’s why it’s so good! Jk. The women in this show go down in history as some of the greatest to ever do it.
